Lake Superior Youth Choir does any amazing job at modeling and developing strong leadership skills, discipline and musical skills for all of its singers. We feel so fortunate that our child can have this incredible experience.
This is my family's third year enjoying the amazing, transformative experience that this choir and its excellent leadership provides. My girls have grown their voices and their confidence to an extent I never could have imagined. What a great asset to our community!
This is a phenomenally-run organization staffed with guides who love children, and are passionate about helping them to love music. It is a music education organization of the highest quality. As a professional musician myself, I am awed by how much my nine-year-old daughter has learned in a little over a year with this organization. She loves her director and intern, and can't wait to go every week! So grateful for this wonderful resource in our local community.
I cannot express how lucky we feel to be a part of Lake Superior Youth Chorus. A very professional, high quality, fun organization that motivates kids to be their best, in all aspects of life. The directors are able to turn this rag tag group of kids (they are all amazing, yet all so different from each other) into beautiful choir of singing angels. I am forever grateful for what my daughter has been able to experience; for the friendships she's made, for the lessons she's learned, for the culture she's been exposed to and for the role models in leadership. Because of her experience with LSYC, my daughter plans to be a music educator. This group has given her a goal, a path, a purpose and a community where she feels like she belongs. What more can I ask for?
The leadership of LSYC is amazing, meeting kids where they are at, supporting them, and guiding them into finding their voice and developing a strong community. The music is beautiful. As a parent, I appreciate that expectations are clear. High support, high expectation, these are the things that will make my child succeed.
LSYC is so much more than a youth choir. It is where children discover their potential. Using music education, LSYC develops singers confidence, poise, standards of excellence, and social responsibility. My daughter sang with LSYC for seven years, and still sings five years after graduating. I know LSYC was the foundation.
Our son has been in LSYC for the past three years. It has played an important role in the person he is becoming. LSYC has instilled and taught him not only music education but also leadership skills, teamwork, responsibility, dedication and to work hard to become something greater. LSYC is not just a choir it is a community where everyone is accepted and included by everyone in the organization. We love LSYC!
I have been singing with LSYC for the past few years, and it has played such an important role in my life. I have met so many people through this group and grown closer to the friends I already had, while learning life lessons from my wonderful conductors. I have the chance to be a part of something greater than myself, and make beautiful music. Even after long and stressful weeks, I could always look forward to choir practice. I would recommend joining LSYC to anyone interested in a hard-working youth choir, and I would advise any adults to come to our concerts and donate!
LSYC is a remarkable place for a child to spend time and to grow. It’s not only a place for developing students musical skills and talents but also it’s a place to make friends and have fun. All teachers are highly experienced, professionals and role models in every aspect. My daughter always comes back home happy and would never miss her rehearsals.
When we moved to Duluth from Minneapolis, we didn't know many people. In joining LSYC, my daughter made friends and we were able to connect with a wonderful community of people...such is the power of music! Beyond that, my daughter's love of music is being cultivated at a high level by an unparalleled group of college students, college professors and other talented folks. We love LSYC.
LSYC is such a wonderful organization. As a parent of two daughters who have both been involved with LSYC, we couldn't be happier that LSYC helped our daughters "discovered their voice." LSYC as an organization also instills and teaches positive behavior, leadership skills and taught our girls how to be responsible and work hard in order to become one voice in many to become something greater.
We were so impressed by the organization as parents that we joined the board in an effort to provide this opportunity for other kids too.
I have seen these students perform several times. I can not believe that each year the level of professionalism is raised! Some of the kids are tiny, maybe 3rd grade and they are performing at such a superior level to any other youth program I've seen. Leaps and bounds ahead. The kids and conductors also appear to genuinely enjoy their work and are having fun performing. Its so refreshing to see kids that love to sing, are swaying and enjoying the music. A heartwarming, professional performance and organization!
As a freshman in college, I applied for a work-study position with the Lake Superior Youth Chorus. I was new to the Twin Ports community and thought that this organization would be a good way to get involved and connected.
What I did not know at the time was that my undergraduate experience would be completely transformed by my involvement with the Lake Superior Youth Chorus. Not only have I found my vocational passion; I’ve also developed a deep gratitude for community building, honest professionalism, and the constant, supportive push to find out what it means to be better.
The Lake Superior Youth Chorus is a nonprofit organization that gives young singers a place to sing, and to connect with one another in a way that they might become a part of a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts. I am eternally grateful for the connections, the lessons, and the career foundations I’ve acquired thus far in my time as a student intern at the Lake Superior Youth Chorus.
My kids are athletes, and are used to being in team-based environments. I can say without reservation, LSYC fosters a better experiential learning environment -- leadership, teamwork, determination, persistence, etc. -- than any athletic team they've been a part of. The strong sense of community fostered by everyone in the organization is exactly the kind of challenging, supportive environment I want for my kids. This unifying experience has given them a common bond, a place to make friends, and something they will remember for the rest of their lives. And I haven't event mentioned the music, which is amazing! They are able to see the fruits of their dedication in the beautiful music they help to create. All three of my kids (1 girl, 2 boys) have been singing in LSYC for the past 4 years, and we're excited for next season to begin.
LSYC lifts up our daughter. She has had nothing but a beautifully positive experience in the chorus. I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of the LSYC community. From the parent’s perspective, I value LSYC’s clear communications, defined expectations, and professionalism.
We have been a part of LSYC for 3 going in 4 years. In these past 3years, I have seen my daughter’s love and knowledge of music intensify. LSYC has not only taught my daughter music education, but responsibility, dedication, leadership, and a sense of community. I was so impressed with the organization that I decided to join the Board of Directors as a parent representative last year. We love LSYC!!
LSYC isn't just a choir, it is a community. The ways that my daughter is growing and learning as a part of LSYC are priceless and beyond calculation. She is stronger, braver, more confident and more musically accomplished than I ever thought she could be at her age. My family has loved being a part of all the wonderful things that LSYC has to offer and will continue to be a part of it long after our kids graduate!
