I wanted to post to this site to possibly increase the awareness of an organization that develops the confidence and self-esteem of young women and girls onto the map of those willing to contribute. The Lady Renegades, located in Chambersburg PA. is a travel softball club that teaches girls and young women the discipline, fortitude and confidence to handle life’s difficult situations and teaches them that hard work, dedication and loyalty will place them in the best position for success. Organization like the Lady Renegades are fundamental in channeling the energy of young girls and women into a productive, safe, and nurturing environment that cannot be duplicated outside of sports. Focus on athletics, education and building winners will serve all the players throughout their lives, no matter where they choose to walk.
I am the father of one of these players and have witnessed the transformation of my daughter on these past few years. She is a strong, confident, and decisive young lady now and I attribute that first to the sacrifice we make for her but also the development and direction this organization drives home to all their players. The team and the success of all on the team, be it Softball or family or work group, is fundamental in teaching trust and accountability, in a world that has not quite recognized how important these core values are. My daughter is still young but is energized about attending and playing her sport in college and all that lies beyond.
According to Forbs Magazine, “Research by Michigan State University’s Institute for the Study of Youth Sports, approximately 70% of children in the U.S. are dropping out of organized sports before the age of 13. This is particularly alarming for women because studies have shown that girls who play sports are more likely to graduate from college, find a job, and be employed in male-dominated industries.”
I posit that a large portion on these athletes that drop out of sports is due to financial considerations. I have seen where cost in money or time has pulled, particularly girls, out of a sport and this can have a devastating effect on their futures.
“EY research shows that among senior business women in the C-suite today, 94% played sports and over half played at a university level — suggesting a strong correlation between their success in sports and their success in business. In fact, of the 400 women EY surveyed, 75% said that a candidate’s background in sports positively influenced their decision to hire them. These women put a particular premium on female athletes because they know — very personally — how participating in sports can impact work ethic.”
I know sports is not everything and women have been and can be very successful in life without them. As a father I want to give my children every advantage I can, and this is an organization that will push for the best in these young women. It is never too early to create a life winner!
