Causes: Family Counseling
Mission: We support and advocate for victims and survivors of child abuse, domestic violence and sexual assault. We provide prevention, education and awareness programs to strengthen families and make our community safer.
Results: LACASA serves more than 13,000 children and adults each year as they seek critical resources to heal from trauma and interpersonal violence. We are the only Crisis Shelter in Michigan that offers a Safe Pet Place for shelter residents' pets. We have housed dogs, cats, birds, hamsters, and even an iguana. We also offer a 2-year New Transitions Housing Program that provides safe housing for victim families as they rebuild their lives.
Target demographics: Children, teens and adults who reside in Livingston County, MI, as well as county-line areas of Washtenaw, Genesee and Oakland counties.
Direct beneficiaries per year: We provided more than 3.000 nights of shelter last year. The average length of stay was 17 nights. More than 8,000 meals were provided.Our New Transitions Housing Program provided 6822 nights of transitional apartment housing for 13 families (13 mothers and 25 children). We responded to 3056 calls on our Crisis Line. We conducted 209 forensic interviews for children impacted by physical and/or sexual abuse. Our Sexual Assault Response Center conducted dozens of victim examinations through our SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) Program. We provided hundred of hours of counseling for victims of child abuse, domestic violence and sexual assault. We hosted an ongoing series of support groups for adults, teens and children who were victims of child abuse, domestic violence or sexual assault.

Programs: We provide more than 25 programs for victims and survivors. All of our services are provided at no charge for victims, survivors, their families and their friends. This is only made possible through generous private donations from people like you.
