I adopted my last rescue lab from this org in 2003. I have been an advocate of them ever since. This all volunteer org works tirelessly at their own expense to foster and transport dogs, to pull dogs from shelters, evaluate owner surrenders, adoption events, adoption counseling and home visits. The adoption fees do not cover the vet bills and no lab is turned away for being too sick or too old. All donations are very carefully spent to cover essential expenses and allow them to continue to rescue as many labs as possible.
Review from Guidestar
Twice in two years, 2012 and 2014, I've made donations to Labrador Retriever Rescue of Florida in memory of friends Labs that had died. In both instances the donations were not acknowledged in a timely manner to either the dog owner nor myself. Both times, after a month, I emailed and requested the donations be acknowledged but nothing happened. I sent a second follow up emails in both instances and still no response.
Since I made these donations from my Charitable Gift Fund I don't need an acknowledgement for the IRS. That said, it would have been nice for the Lab owner to receive an acknowledgement when they were still grieving the loss of their dog.
While I can't speak how well this organization fulfills its mission, I expect there are other Labrador Retriever rescues that recognize the value of acknowledging donations in a timely manner.
This wonderful organization is dedicated to rehoming Labrador Retrievers who have been abandoned or turned in by folks who cannot or will not take care of them. The dedicated team of volunteers work tirelessly to search for dogs in need. The dogs live in foster homes, and receive the medical care necessary to get or keep them healthy. There is no shelter, all of these labs are living with a family until their forever homes are found. The volunteers take some of the homeless labs to events on a weekly basis, to expose them to the public, with the hope that the exposure will generate interest and possibly result in a forever home for them.
We adopted our chocolate boy from them 5+ years ago. He was left at a shelter, sick with heartworms and flea bites and had never experienced the love every dog deserves. He was treated for his problems and became a healthy spoiled, fat boy. A big thank you to all the volunteers who work 24/7 to make the labs lives better!!!
