Mission: Inspires and empowers the community to make la jollas diverse past a relevant part of contemporary life. Preserves and shares la jollas distinctive sense of place, encourages quality in the urban built environment, and serves as a thriving community resource and gathering place where residents and visitors explore history, art, ideas and culture.
Programs: Dedicated to the discovery, collection and preservation of la jollas heritage. Through our collections, programs and advocacy, we carry out our mission by discovering, recording and sharing la jollas history, preserving la jollas historical objects, sites and structures, an increasing community awareness of the value of our heritage.
La Jolla Historical Society helps preserve the past and educate the public by offering a wide variety of programs to link today’s audiences with the rich history of La Jolla’s past. The Society has three historic buildings in the Scripps/Gill cultural zone built in the early 1900s that support exhibitions, educational programs, offices and public research. Events and activities include exhibitions, lecture series, education camps for youth, collaborative programs with educational and cultural institutions, oral history initiatives, and popular annual community events such as the Secret Garden Tour of La Jolla and the La Jolla Concours d’Elegance and Motor Car Classic.
