Mission: The mission of la cocina is to cultivate low-income food entrepreneurs as they formalize and grow their businesses by providing affordable commercial kitchen space, industry-specific technical assistance and access to market opportunities. We focus primarily on women from communities of color and immigrant communities. Our vision is that entrepreneurs will become economically self-sufficient and contribute to a vibrant economy doing what they love to do.
Programs: La cocina provides commercial kitchen space and technical assistance to low-income entrepreneurs who are launching, growing and formalizing food businesses. They also provide education to their clients as to how the business is supposed to run. It teaches about production cost, money management and how to make clients' businesses unique from others. Once a year, la cocina hosts a street food festival so clients and other food entrepreneurs can sell their food items to the public as a fundraiser and market access for la cocina clients.
As a volunteer the perks are 2nd to none! It was a great experience working with an organization, its incredibly knowledagble and energized staff as well as all the creative and special food vendors who acquire vast experience and structure while they continue to develop their delicious trade. La Cocina exemplifies the meaning community in bringing together all cultures and taste together!
