I have been volunteering with Knights of Heroes for seven years now and am proud to be part of the KOH family. The kids and families we serve, as well as the army of volunteers and mentors, inspire me. Almost 100% of every dollar donated goes to the program itself and the kids we serve. We get to see firsthand the results of the years of continued mentoring and programs as these kids graduate and continue on with our grad program and becoming volunteers themselves. There is nothing else like KOH serving the children of our fallen heroes into adulthood. Remembering and honoring their sacrifices brings healing....doing life with others who know the loss makes a difference...
I have been involved with Knights of Heroes (KOH) for the past 6 years, as a mentor and board member. As with years past, I am always amazed, and feel the organization is truly blessed, to have the number of top notch volunteers and donors that it does. I feel it shows that the mentors, and all volunteers, 'receive' just as much as they 'give'...that they are dedicated to the continuance of support year after year, and to the relationships developed and forged at camp with these kids. All of our hearts are in it for the long haul, challenging and supporting the children of our nation's fallen heroes, as we would wish someone would do for us and our kids if we were to fall. KOH is not just another "free camp" for Gold Star kids. All involved invest and pour into the kids we serve, year after year, challenging them to believe in themselves, to try new things, to conquer fears, to live and write a good story for themselves, to develop long lasting friendships, and to Rise Up above what the world would teach them and become who God made and intended them to be...
Knights of Heroes is simply the best grass-roots organization I've ever seen, heard of, or worked with. I have served as a volunteer mentor with them for almost a decade and have seen first-hand the long-lasting and incredible impact for good this organization brings to the lives of young men and women who have endured such immense loss.
I have been a boys’ mentor with Knights of Heroes for a number of years now and I have never in my life heard of or seen another organization quite like this one. The positive impact KOH has on these kids is beyond words. The group of mentors is the most impressive bunch of fellas I’ve ever worked with. I’ve watched boys come up through KOH from year one through graduation and the transformation in their life is unreal. Terrified, angry and confused youths are transformed into courageous, mature and bold men who often are already impacting the world around them for good. I am honored to be a part of Knights.
I have been volunteering in support of Knights of Heroes (KOH) since 2013. What amazes me the most about this organization is the transformation that takes place in these young men and women, who are healing from unexpected emotional trauma. As kids, they often start their first (KOH) camp with thick emotional and social walls built miles high and lists of on-going challenges associated with loss of a parent. Being surrounded by peers who have experienced similar loss and coached and mentored by positive, strong volunteers quickly breaks these walls down. Subsequent KOH camps and engagements have proven to help pave the way for long-term healing and growth. Thank You to the donors, leadership team, and volunteers who make KOH such a success!
This is my seventh year volunteering as a mentor for young men in the Knights of Heroes’ first-through-third-year program. Every year, I am incredibly amazed at how impactful this program is on the development of our country’s next generation of citizens, husbands, fathers, and leaders.
This year, one of my team’s second-year mentees spent 45 minutes sobbing while stuck on a challenging spot during a difficult [and scary for anybody] rock climb. Although I had been pushing him and knew he could make it to the goal he had set (the top), I finally asked him if he wanted to come down and he replied “yes.” After lowering him via a rope to my level, the mentee started to sob even more and tried to blame me for letting him come down. I explained to him: this was his second year at the camp, he had grown in year since he had last been at camp, he knew he was again going to be challenged with a rock climb this year, and it was time for him to take ownership of his own performance and decisions. After 10 minutes of calming down and reflection, the mentee came back over to me and said he wanted to go back up. And, oh how he climbed!
As a side note, I cannot say enough good things about the Foundation's leadership team and culture of professionalism. Despite facing seemingly insurmountable challenges in 2020, the leadership team and staff has effectively adhered to rapidly-changing federal and state guidance, planned and prepared for a variety of abnormal contingencies, and mitigated numerous higher-than-normal health- and safety-related risks.
KoH is an awesome organization that I'm proud to have volunteered with for about 11 years!
What really tells me that this camp makes a difference is that our graduated former campers are now returning as a new generation of mentors! They clearly believe in the organization enough to return as a volunteer, and it's great seeing the wonderful people they have become.
I have been involved with this company now for nearly 8 years and I have never seen a foundation impact the lives of young children in such a positive and consistent way. As someone who has been through every aspect of this foundation, I have seen such massive improvements in the lives of children and the parents that participate.
I’ve been impressed for several years how KoH has consistently taken care of our military families and especially our Gold Star Kids!
Such a great organization. They really do a nice job taking care of the families that have made the ultimate sacrifice. Their mentorship is second to none and the impact in the boys and girl’s lives is incredible. They do such a wonderful job maximizing people’s donations.
Amazing to see an organization so committed to supporting and loving on families that have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our great country. The boys and girls are part of a community that helps them grow to be wonderful men and women.
Knights of Heroes brought so much joy to my family this past summer! My son and I got to test ourselves, face challenges, and rely on our strength and perseverance to overcome. The experience really helped us reconnect with not only ourselves, but each other as well! I just cant say enough good about what this organization has done for me and my son! Thank you for taking the time to read this! Please consider supporting this amazing non profit!
I became aware of this Foundation in 2009 while still on active duty in public service. I've been a donor ever since. I'm honored to know the founder and several organizers, board members, campers/graduates, and fellow donators ... all have inspired me by their care, compassion, growth, development, vision, and ideals. Truly breathtaking!
I was a camper for 10 years and have been a mentor or worked for them for 5 years now. This program changed my life, taught me how to deal with adversity, and has given me the greatest community I have ever known!
I was a camper at KOH for 10 years and now I’ve been on the staff/mentor Team for 4 years, and it is one of the single most life changing experiences/communities I have ever been a part of. When I lost my dad in military service, knights stepped in and taught me what being a man meant, that being bold, a leader, responsible, kind to others, Etc. they have given me an invaluable skill set in the outdoors, in leadership, and they’ve given me direction in life: to serve others.
I have really enjoyed volunteering with KOH over the past ten years- the impact they have on children is huge!
Knights of Heroes is a fantastic organization that changes the trajectory of children’s lives. It’s unlike any other group trying to help Gold Star kids. It offers real, lasting hope and connection.
We lost my husband JANUARY 2020. I have two teenage boys who’s lives were rocked. Steve reached out to us almost immediately and swept the boys into the organization. That April we got our first introduction to what would be an amazing blessing of relationships and healing for not just my sons but me as well. Knights of Heroes volunteers have poured into my boys so much in the past year and a half and I am so grateful. The boys have loved attending the outdoor adventure camps and have made new lifelong friends through Knights of Heroes. We are so thankful for Steve, every volunteer and generous donor for KoH.
What an amazing organization! My boys are 11 and 14 and just recently lost their dad at a very critical time in their growing up. Men like Steve and the mentors are standing up in the gap for these boys. My boys came back from a week at camp filled and blessed. They can’t wait to get back with their camp mates and mentors again. What a light this organization and all who support it have been in our lives at such a tough time.
I am a donor, but I started volunteering for the camp after I saw how great they handled their interaction with the kids, as well as how cautious they were with their budget. They stretch every penny as far as it will go, and the leadership team are all tremendous servants. Gold Star kids like mine have been so blessed to have had Knights of Heroes help mentor them through the years. I would HIGHLY recommend donating to this wonderful organization.
I am a board member of Knights of Heroes, but I also volunteer my time as a camp worker during the week of camp. I continue to be amazed at how we are able to give kids hope and a rewarding camp experience that will benefit them throughout life. We teach them values they will need in life, and we help them conquer fears and empower them. The mentors they have during camp week offer encouragement to complete activities (e.g. rock climbing, mountain bike riding, etc) that they may not have otherwise thought they were capable of doing.
The camp also allows these kids to bond with other military children who have lost fathers and gives them a connection they may not have otherwise had. My two kids attended the camp for about 10 years, and now that they are adults, some of their best friends are kids they met at Knights of Heroes. Having that came connection with other kids allows them to feel they are not alone through their journey.
Knights of Heroes gives these kids experiences and connections that they would otherwise not have. I am incredibly blessed to be a part of this awesome organization, and I am thankful my own two kids had the opportunity to benefit from KOH!
KOH has been a blessing to my two sons. The camp counselors guided them in amazing outdoor challenges and encouraged both boys when they needed it most. My sons have also gained life long friendships through building strong relationships through team building activities. KOH has showed all campers that resilience comes from the efforts that you put forth to ensure that you’re emotionally and physically strong. This camp has helped my family see that life after tragedy is possible.
Knights of Heroes has been a truly awesome experience for my entire family. This was our second year at this camp and each time it surpasses the first experience tenfold. My son comes back with a new awakening of self strength and confidence that sometimes can take a lifetime for others. The mentors and directors help him conquer his fears and challenge him to try new things. It is the adventure that my son needs and yearns for. KOH, is an excellent camp for both boys and girls that teaches them life skills that will stick with them forever.
Aa a Veteran, mentor and Board Member for this organization, I can attest to this incredible mission that serves kids and families who have sacrificed for our great Nation. I can also assure that donations are utilized in the most efficient and effective manner to ensure that the kids are the benefactors, not administrative overhead. I have seen lives changed during the camps and retreats that KOH offers. The campers establish friendships and bonds that last a lifetime and the values and skills they gain will serve them into young adulthood and beyond. KOH also provides sustained opportunities for campers as they graduate from high school and college so that they are NEVER forgotten or left stranded. It's been a privilege and honor to serve this great program!
What an incredible experience for these kids, the mentors, the graduates and the staff. So professionally run which was absolutely essential this summer given the conditions. The kids loved the activities. They developed strong bonds with others that have experienced similar loss in their lives. The campers learned so many new things about themselves as they tested what they thought were their limits and surprised themselves with their grit and resiliency. They learned some very valuable lessons and values from their mentors that will last a lifetime. There is not a better organization doing this amazing work for these most deserving families.
I’ve been a volunteer for 5 years and can’t say enough about this is an amazing organization and amazing kids!!! KoH programs offer kids experiences and confidence building that will serve them well as young adults.
My kids love to attend the Knights of Heroes Camp.
They always looking forward to it.
Great place and people.
KOH is AMAZING! It has been a huge asset for my two boys (ages 14 and 16) and I honestly don't know where we would be without them. The have the most incredible mentors and a director and staff who truly cares about the kids/families they support.
Knights of Heroes is an amazing camp that provides incredible opportunities to kids who have lost a dad in the military. For my two boys (who had just turned 3 and 5 when their dad died), has not only been a great way to connect with some of the outdoor things their dad used to do with them, but it has also given them a chance to be around strong male figures. The staff push the campers to challenge themselves and get outside of their comfort zones. As a result, my boys have left camp with more self confidence, excitement for the outdoors, and a fantastic support system. For that, I am extremely grateful!
My son Hunter has been going to Knight’s of Hero camps for a few sessions now. The kids become part of the KOH family, Hunter and myself know if we need anything including a male mentor even when it’s camp is not in session that Steve and KOH are just a phone call away.
This organization went out of its way to help our family. The mentors are outstanding and have made a huge impact on my son who lost his father during military service. The organization is extremely organized and provides a safe environment for the children while helping them build confidence. Superb organization!!
My kids and I are so thankful for Knights of Heroes. Their Dad, Jonathan Gibson, was KIA while deployed with the US Navy on 9/22/2013. We have been a part of the KOH family for 2 years now. The mentorship, encouragement, support, motivation, experiences, and being pushed outside of their comfort level has helped create a positive pathway through their grief journey.
Knights of Heroes stepped into my children’s lives to help fill the gaping hole left by their father when he was killed in a military helicopter crash. They provided my kids with opportunities to bond with other “gold star” kids, to lean on mentors who have “been there”, and to experience the outdoors the way their dad always wanted them to. Additionally, they have been taught that hard things will always be part of life, that their choices matter, and that through faith and gratitude, they will rise above their challenges to become better, wiser people. Graduates of the KoH program honor their loved ones memory’s, inspire others around them, and offer encouragement and hope to younger generations coming after them. As a widowed mom trying to give her kids the best, trying to help them heal, and trying to honor her husband’s dreams for his kids; the gift of support from KoH is priceless. Their impact is life changing and lifelong. We would not be the thriving family we are today without Knights of Heroes.
My son and daughter have been a part of Knight of Heroes for the last 3 years. Their experience has been amazing. They have been encouraged to push themselves past what they thought was possible. The mentors still reach out to the kids and check in on them. Steve and his team and amazing human beings who truly care about the kids and want to invest in their future.
This was our families first experience with Knights Of Heroes and I have to say that it was well beyond our expectations. My husband and I always wanted to teach our children the importance of character, service, and life skills. We wanted to walk along with them to teach key skills that help them become contributing members of society who embody kindness, faith, and generosity. When I lost my husband those values did not die- however it became my responsibility. Knights of Heroes is an organization that walks with families of the fallen. They know the hearts and desires of the families and they take the values that are important in life and spend time one on one with the children to nurture them. They instill self-confidence, service, team-work as well as friendship, and mentorship- all while learning to shoot, rock climb, and throw tomahawks. They take special consideration to choose activities that would traditionally be taught by fathers and give these kids the opportunity to be kids. My son was not the same when he returned from the camp. Even in just one week I can see how his confidence and desire to be a better person has increased. I cannot thank KOH enough and I feel so blessed to be apart of this organization.
I’ve been with the organization for over 5 years and continue to be impressed at what an amazing program KOH has in Colorado!
I’ve been volunteering with KOH for over 5 yrs and have seen firsthand how impactful this program is to the boys and girls that visit the camp! It truly is one of the greatest camps for children of fallen heroes!
This is an amazing group of people who selflessly commit their time to invest in the lives of our Gold Star children. KOH has provided my three children the opportunity to learn so much about nature and mentorship while building their own self confidence.
All three of my children have now been to a Knights of Heroes camp. This is one of the most dedicated and supportive charities out there to help our Gold Star families. Through KOH, my children have received one-on-one mentorship with older children (graduates of the KOH program) as well as adult mentors that give so much of their time and energy to nurture lasting relationships with the campers. This is a one-of-a-kind charity that teaches life building skills and instills confidence in our children that will last a lifetime.
Knights Of Heroes has been the best positive influence on my son since the passing of his father to injuries sustained while serving in combat. KOH has helped fill the male role model that was missing in my son's life. They have continued to listen, teach and empower so many children and our family is forever grateful.
Knights of Heroes is one of the best foundations you could possibly have. The bonds and friendships that are created there are incredible. It takes kids who have lost their fathers in military service and gives them outdoor experiences that they may not get otherwise. It helps them to grow and build a support group around them that they would not get elsewhere. Its Amazing!!!
Knights of Heroes is a fantastic organization that puts all of their resources into preparing Gold Star children for their futures by creating a support system and instilling lifelong skills! Amazing staff.
I don't think there is a more positive and thoughtful group of people in the country than the folks that make Knights of Heroes happen. And I really look forward to the honor/opportunity to serve the families and give back to those who gave everything for our country. Seeing the kids push outside of their comfort zone and experience things they otherwise would not have is so rewarding. This organization is extremely well run and organized! I am proud to be a small part of the mission!
Words can't describe the energy and enthusiasm of every person involved with this amazing organization. Volunteering here is the highlight of my year! Steve and his team are wonderful stewards of each dollar donated and they work tirelessly to positively impact the life of each camper. I honestly can't think of a better mission and group of people!
A fantastic organization that takes kids without fathers and provides them with opportunities to interact with male role models for guidance, mentorship and everyday Dad know-how. The camps seek to build the kids from the ground up with a solid foundation to tackle the many obstacles life will throw at them. They strip away the entitlement culture and teach these kids how to thrive in this world by pushing them beyond these kid's self imposed limits teaching them only they can limit themselves. These lessons are taught with humility, grace, compassion and love, with a bit of grit thrown in for good measure. The kids who attend the camps of Knights of Heroes are better prepared to face the pressures and challenges of this world.
6th year at camp. Another great experience! Camp was a little different this year with COVID precautions, but the kids had a great time and rose to the challenges with grace!.
4th year volunteering. It is rewarding to see the graduates of the program come back as mentors. The growth in these young adults is a powerful witness to the value of this program. Best Charity I've ever worked with or volunteered for.
My son has been attending KOH fir 6 years now. The growth and self confidence I have seen has been incredible. The staff does a phenomenal job in keeping the kids safe and healthy. I can't brag enough about this camp and what it has done for my soon!
This is such a great program! My son is in the high adventure program and have seen such a growth in responsibility, self confidence and his love of the outdoors. I am so grateful for the care that the staff and volunteers show the kids. I highly recommend this organization!
My son was only 6 when he lost his dad. My son is 12 now and has struggled to find his place in life and lacking skills his dad never got the chance to teach him.
After finding KOH my son has grown and become more confident in himself. He has found his place and learning skills that will grow with him and mold him into the man my husband would be proud of. I am so thankful for KOH and how they have helped my family along with others. We have made life long friends and feel like family.
I have had the wonderful opportunity to work with KOH for the last 3 years. I love this organization and I tell everybody I can about the good that they do. I have really seen kids cone into their own with the confidence that they learn to have from camp.
My daughter. Chloe has had a wonderful experience at the camp and retreats. The mentorship has meant so much to her as she adjusts to life without her Dad. She is pushed to new limits with activities and finds great confidence in that. By far this is one of the best experiences of growth for her since we lost her dad in 2018. Thank you KOH!
I've known about KOH for a few years now and heard so many amazing stories, This was my first year participating in a event which was the Grad Retreat! I had an Incredible time from the moment I arrived. I didn't feel out of place as there were other young adults there as well. It is amazing what this organization offers and provides for the Children of the fallen heroes. From day one the staff members were always there for us and listened to what we had to share. KOH is defiently a family i want to continue top be apart of.
I truly had a unique experience with the Knights of Heroes. The KOH retreat brought other children of fallen heroes from all over the country to meet in Colorado on their piece of land. Being away from everyday distractions like technology allowed all of us to focus on challenging activities or conversation pieces that were tailored to our needs. Instead of being defined by our loss, the KOH is encouraging its campers to keep growing and making the best out of their circumstances. They may not be able to take the place of our lost parents, but they create a support group of adults and children who are rooting for each others success.
I was invited to go on a grad retreat through this organization, I wasn't quite sure what to expect but WOW was it awesome. It was so comforting to be surrounded by so many people that understood my situation. We were able to support each other and endure an awesome experience in the beautiful state of Colorado!! From white water rafting to late night discussions on identity I am truly grateful to have been apart of this retreat.
I am a Gold Star child and I have been attending this camp for over a decade; I now return as staff and help where I can. This is easily the best nonprofit organization I have ever encountered. Over the years, the countless outdoor activities like rock climbing, water rafting, and archery have forged me into a strong, confident person, despite the loss of my father. Through this camp, I have found connections with other Gold Star children, which has created numerous deep friendships. Having this support system is what gets me through the tough days. In addition to friendships, the KOH staff has also come to play an extremely important role in my life. I look up to each and every one of them; their strong morals and authentic passion for serving others guides me when I need it the most. I couldn't imagine my life without this organization.
In January 2006, my dad died in a jet crash. He was a great Navy pilot and more importantly, a great dad. I was 5 years old at the time and I am now 18. The Knights of Heroes graduate retreat was the first time I was around people my age who are in my situation. This camp has given me great friends, mentors, and memories. It made me feel like I belong somewhere and I have a group of people who understand my struggles on a personal level. This camp has truly changed my life for the better and I am so thankful for it.
Knights of heroes is an amazing camp. I remember my first year I was scared to go, but now I made family and friends forever. The activities are super fun ...some of the activities are shotgun shooting, Throwing tomahawks and knives, archery, canoeing and White water rafting. The mentors there are very helpful, kind, nice, and respectful The mentors help us fight through the grief of our fathers. Knights of heroes is the best camp I have ever been to.
It is a great camp that I really enjoy, it really helps me to strengthen myself mentally along with physically and it has done so much for me as a young man
Knights of Heroes has been an answered prayer for my family. My boys learn how to become men through the leadership of the mentors and they build self confidence from tackling outdoor skills among the camaraderie of other boys who’ve faced similar loss
This was my son's fourth year and my daughter's second year attending KOH. It was also the first year they attended without me accompanying them. The attention to detail and organization of getting the kids from the airport to camp and back again was phenomenal. I had zero worries. My son attended as graduate staff since he recently graduated high school. This was a perfect opportunity for him to feel accomplished and useful helping out with the running of the camp and bonding with other guys his same age. I continually see him return home from KOH stronger, braver, more independent and more thoughtful about the direction of his life. He saw himself as being more trustworthy and purposeful. He knows more is expected of him and he brings that attitude home. I am so grateful to all the staff and mentors who encourage him and praise him for his role at camp.
This was my 16 year old daughter's second year attending. She hasn't stopped talking about all the amazing experiences she had. With a history of anxiety, depression and struggles she comes home from KOH so much stronger, sure of herself, capable and thoughtful. She is able to get herself through struggles and has learned to turn towards strong calming women for advice and encouragement. The mentors at KOH are incredible. I never for one moment worried for her safety or happiness. My girl climbs mountains now, opens up to others, challenges herself daily and has lifelong friends who truly care. I am so thankful to KOH, Steve Harrold and everyone associated with this beautiful organization. It is a beautiful gift they all give to our family every year. I can't recommend KOH enough.
This was my 17 year old son's third year and my 15 year old daughter's first year attending KOH. They had a blast and are still talking about their week. My son moved into a junior mentorship role this year and this brought out so many amazing qualities in him. He is more helpful, more kind, more patient and has a heart that wants to give back now. He acts with more purpose now and looks forward to what he is going to do with his life. What a gift to watch your son behave more like a respected man and to hear the great things all the mentors had to say about him. My daughter has struggled with depression and anxiety for several years and this was her first year that she was able to attend. She blossomed at camp and watched herself conquer mountains, rivers, horseback riding and her emotions. Her mentor was phenomenal and caring. She and my daughter formed a great friendship and it was fantastic hearing my daughter talk to me about her joy and her increased self confidence. Best week ever! Thank you to every single person who made this week possible. Completely recommend KOH!
Three of my four children have now attended this incredible camp. Knights of Heroes has been a powerful influence in their lives since the death of their father. I could tell a hundred stories about the amazing people that have loved on my kids, the experiences they’ve had, and the lessons they’ve learned.
My oldest son is at an age where a young man really needs his Dad. I am so thankful for the ways KOH has stepped into that gap for him and has given him something he truly loves and looks forward to. This summer was my younger daughters first time as a camper. When I picked her up she told me that she loved the week because it felt so good to be around other kids that understood her. Knights of Heroes has been instrumental in helping our family navigate moving forward in life with our grief, while connecting with other families going through our same circumstances.
It is an unbelievable blessing to be able to send my children at no cost because of the generous individuals and companies funding Knights of Heroes. That gift is not taken for granted. I love that the kids take time during their week at camp to write thank you notes to everyone involved as well as participate in a service project to give back to the camp.
The kids going through this program are grateful and compassionate and become mentors themselves after learning the importance of serving others.
Knights of Heroes is a unique and special place doing incredible work in families’ lives. We are so thankful!
Knights of heroes has been an instrumental organization in offering summer camps that help facilitate the development of character and resilience in my children after the loss of my husband. They pair each one of my sons with a mentor and challenge them to overcome obstacles while developing a sense of camaraderie with kids who are just like them. I can’t say enough wonderful things about this camp and what it does to make an impact!
Words can’t explain how much this program mean to me and my 4Boys this was our 1st year and my 1st time hanging with my 2little Sons while the 2 older sons camp with the Knights and Heroes I must say our week was eventful and memorable myself and 2 little sons had the opportunity to White water raft for the 1st time in our lives and I must say it was breathtaking and a enjoyable ride to remember My 2 little ones had a enjoyable time as well I never had the time to just hang out with my 2 little ones which I felt was much need it was a great time to check in with them I really appreciate the opportunity to do so it was a great way to have some bonding time with them. Also with the other Widow’s and their young children that got left behind because they aren’t of age yet to camp. The little kids also visit the Zoo and feed the Giraffes and seen a couple of cool animals behind the scenes with our private 2hour tour it was a great day at the zoo as well And I can’t forget to mention the horse back riding at the Air Force academy was a great way to bond as well with our children I must say I know the older children that went camping had a eventful week and also I heard they did similar events as well, but we had a eventful week every day it truly was a great way to bond with our children.
Thank you Knights and Heroes for not leaving the younger siblings out... While you built memories with the 2 older ones. As my 2 little ones said their week was awesome and amazing I would agree with the Both of them!!!
It was an honor to serve as a first-time mentor for the Knights of Heroes this year. I’ve never been a part of a more impactful organization. The difference this program is making in the lives of the young men and women who have endured so much grief and loss is remarkable.
I can’t say enough positive things about this camp. They encourage and show my teenage son so much love and positive energy. He looks forward to going and doing all the adventurous stuff his Dad would of done with him. The staff is very organized and helpful with any questions and never leave any doubt in my mind about what is happening with my son. I’m very thankful for Steven and Knights of Heros Mentors. You have helped my son in our darkest time find a reason to smile, laugh and learn that everything will be ok.
Great program. Kids had a blast and learned a lot.
Awesome charity that is completely focused on the kids!
I returned this year for camp as a mentor for the 6th time. This continues to be the best non-profit experience I have had with dedicated staff and volunteers who put the campers first. The campers really benefit from the program and exposure to outdoor activities, their peers, and the mentor staff. I am impressed with the growing offerings and events.
I continue to volunteer here annually. It is a highlight of my year to work with the kids and mentors who are involved. The impact for all involved is obvious and it is amazing to see the young men and women overcome physical challenges while also spending time opening up about their lives to peers and mentors. I have been involved with many non-profits as both a volunteer and full time staff and this organization is the best steward of donor dollars of any group I have seen.
This organization goes above and beyond. My son and daughter both have attended and benefitted from this camp. They offer mentorship and guidance for children who have lost a parent due to world conflict. They also encourage the campers to return after they age out to be junior mentors in order to keep the program moving forward. This program is all about giving back, finding purpose, and having a great appreciation people and their communities through service projects. It's about not taking things for granted and showing respect and appreciation. This is a superior lead and organized foundation.
My son has attend Knights of Heroes for several years now. This camp gives him experiences he would otherwise not have had as a result of the loss of his father in Afghanistan. It also gives him an opportunity to bond with other boys who have suffered a loss because of the war on terror. Some of the benefits of this camp for my son have been an increase in self-confidence, sense of belonging, and an appreciation of others through service work. KOH plans fun activities, helps them give back through the service projects, and provides many volunteer mentors who support and look after our kiddos while at camp. This is a great organization and am very thankful for the opportunities they have awarded my son.
I don't have enough words to say how amazing and impotartant Knights of Heroes is. My son started attending KOH he was 10 years old and it has changed his life. I knew he needed men in his life since his father's death but I didn't realize how much he need them until his first year at KOH. He came back with a new confidence in himself and support group that was strong. Each year he has returned to camp and built on the lessons from the year before. The mentors are truly caring people that understand how deep their connection is with the campers. They keep up with my son throughout the year and are an extension of our family. They understand they have a key role in these boys lives and like they have been for my son for 9 years, they become some of the most important men in their lives. Honestly, I don't know what Ronan would be like without KOH. They have made him a better person and an exceptionally giving young man.
I have been a donor for nine years. This organization uses their money wisely and always looking at ways to improve their program. I have been to the camp property - not only is it in a beautiful setting, there are many outdoor activities available right on the property. It is also amazing that the property was paid off in three years. I strongly encourage anyone to donate to KOH and honor of fallen heroes' families.
Knights of Heroes empowers youth to be courageous, resilient and resourceful. Youth have a blast adventuring in spectacular Rockies, all while connecting with peers who have been through the same challenge of losing a parent. Leadership, team-work and reflection are weaved into the daily activities. The camper-to-mentor ratio is 1:1 or 2:1, thus giving campers constant access to adult figures and promotes good decision making.
The most awesome volunteer opportunity that I have ever been involved with!!!!! Knights of Heroes camp empowers youth to recognize their strengths, to develop their character and confidence, to recognize and improve on skills in need of growth, and to fellowship with peers! Additionally, the youth have an absolute blast recreating in the beautiful and therapeutic mountains and waters of Colorado! The mentors and staff are kind, honest, trustworthy, and encouraging! KOH camp is my favorite week of each year!!!! I just completed my 3rd year with the camp, and will be coming back for many more years! :)
Our family became a part of the Knights of Heroes Family in the summer of 2010. It started with my oldest becoming a camper. He thought it would be fun to hike, rock climb and camp out in Colorado. What he didn’t realize was he was invited into a new lifelong relationship with the mentors and fellow campers. A couple of years later, my youngest son joined the campers and this year will be his graduating year at camp.
The founders have truly recognized their vision. They wanted to give the boys of fallen heroes the outdoor experiences and male mentorship that these boys were missing my losing their fathers. Over the years, the board members have always evaluated each aspect of the experience and have evolved into an amazingly well -rounded foundation. They now offer a program for the daughters of fallen heroes as well. Now that we have our own property and camp, they are offerening up events throughout the year.
The best part of the whole experience is that the mentors are not here solely to show the campers a good time; even though they provide an amazing time. They are there for character building as well. They care for these kids as though they were their own...each and every one of them. I am very thankful that my boys and I are and will always be a part of the Knights of Heroes Family.
In September of 2008 my boys and I lost a very important member of our family, their dad and my husband. Every day, Every Month and Every Year comes with new and unique challenges. We are part of an ever growing population of people who have lost a parent/spouse due to our war on terror.
There are a number of opportunities and organizations that are there for my boys (13 and 14) with regards to their specific loss. Knights of Heroes is one of those organizations and they are the most impactful. They are there not just for the week that they attend their camp. They are mentors and friends for life. My boys have attended the Knights of Heroes camp for the past 5 years and they gain such respect by spending time with the male mentors. The respect that they would have shown to their dad on a daily basis if he was still here. The camp is composed of outdoor activities that they would only experience if their dad was able to be here or by them going to this camp. Roughing it in the outdoors for a week is not something most moms are willing or able to do. I am very greatful to Knights of Heroes for inviting my sons to attend their camp and for all of the emotional backing that they offer my boys, from both the mentors and their peers that are going through the same things. We love you!
I have been honored and privileged to be a part of the Knights of Heroes family for the past 8 years. Both as a Mentor and Board of Directors member I have seen firsthand the incredible impact this organization has made on Gold Star families. The challenges and life lessons instilled during one of our outdoor adventure camps or retreats are priceless and truly teach children (and adult volunteers) resilience that carries over into their day to day lives. The friendships and relationships that naturally develop between participants enable powerful and meaningful connections that can last a lifetime. Those who volunteer truly have the families' best interests in mind and the foundation has an incredible track record of maintaining their focus on providing support to the families of those that have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
My children and I started attending camp together in 2013 and we still love every single interaction and every summer or small group experience. The mentors stay in close contact with my children and they feel as if they have an extra adult they can reach out to if they need to. Forever grateful to camp and mentors!
My children and I attended Knights of Heros for our first time a few weeks ago. The kids absolutely loved the experience and can't wait for next year! They tried things they wouldn't be able to experience otherwise and talked to other children and mentors they were able to easily relate to. I am greatly appreciative for what the camp and mentors offered to my children. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
I began going to Knights of Heroes the first year it ever happened. I was a camper for 10 years and now continue to go back to every year as a mentor. This camp has done so much for me growing up without a father and teaching me what it means to be a real man in this world. Every year and every experience from knights of heroes has taught me something about myself or about about the world, in particular nature. It has been one of the most influential things in my life and I don't think I'll be able to ever repay what knights has given to me. Everything about this camp is right and has taught many boys and girls valuable life lessons that they wouldn't have if it wasn't for this camp. I love it for the people, place, and love I receive from everyone at this camp and will forever cherish the memories and continue to build upon them in the future.
Where do I begin? My son started with Knights of Heroes a very shy and meek young man. After several years of personal goals the mentors set with these youth, they grow in spirit and confidence. KOH has provided my son with positive mentors, an amazing outdoor experience, and lifelong friendships, all in which I could not provide for him. These children greatly need this challenging experience, that encourages them to work hard throughout the year. At 16, my son has an outgoing personality and learns something new about himself with each experience. Thank you for this life changing program!!!
This was my son's second year in this wonderful program. He entered with low self-confidence and is now blossoming into a self-reliant young man. Every year he is making goals and continuing to strive for more. I feel confident that he will enter the world with the faith based foundation he needs to succeed and rise above the challenges life gives him. There isn't enough room on this form to tell you what this program means to our family. Thank you Knights of Heroes!
A terrific organization both grandson and granddaughter have attended the camp grandson volunteers there now
Our granddaughter and grandson have been attending Knights of Heroes camp from its beginning. We feel that it has played a big part in their healing since the death of their Dad. Both of them feel very comfortable because all the kids are in the same situation as they are. They look forward all year long to see old friends and make new ones. We have been fortunate enough to interact with other children that have attended camp and see the positive influence it has had on them. We can't say enough good things about Knights of Hero as we have seen what it has done for our grandchildren and other children of the military. We would encourage anyone to donate to this great organization.
I have donated to this organization multiple times because I've seen the camp at work and the effect it has had on many children. The children have been dealt a rough hand in life, but they are shown life does not end and you can still soar. For some, this is their first time meeting another child that lost a parent in the military. That can be life changing to be around others just like you. I will continue to support Knights of Heroes as long as there is a need.
My older son attended one year and aged out. He was excited to return this year as a volunteer for the camp. My younger son just did his third year with KOH and it's the only camp we will continue to attend until he ages out. There are many camps out there they could attend, but none will give my children the guidance, confidence and self esteem to move forward in life. I appreciate mentors are paired up with the children one on one so my boys have someone they can fall back to if they ever get stuck in a rut. My children are are learning what kind, caring men look like in life and I hope they will model them later in life.
