Programs: Animal rescue and enforcement-acted as the animal control & impounding authority for kitsap county & all incorporated municipalities in kitsap county. This agency enforced laws and regulations regarding the care, treatment, control, impounding of pets and livestocks. Animal rescue and enforcement officers investigated 2,520 citizen complaints in 2014. Included on the organization's statement of activities was $3,190 of in-kind land rent from kitsap county.

" rescue refers to taking in stray, abandoned and surrendered pets, and providing food, board and care for those animals while at the shelter. Rehabilitation refers to medical and behavioral rehabilitation. Rehome refers to reuniting stray animals with their owners, adopting out animals left at the shelter, or sending animals out to other rescue organizations. In 2014, khs received 5,469 stray, abandoned and surrendered pets, and found homes for 5,192 of those pets. Caring for stray animals in the shelter is part of khs's responsibility under its animal control contracts. the kitsap humane society shelter medicine/veterinary services provided medical evaluation, vaccinations, care and necessary treatment to animals brought to the kitsap humane society animal shelter. The veterinary services also performed spay/neuter surgery on 4,684 animals. Of this total of spay/neuter surgeries, 1,967 were non-shelter animals from families who met low-income guidelines set by the state of washington. The veterinary services department also euthanizes shelter animals who are too sick, injured or dangerous for treatment.
