Mission: To preserve the natural world through education, environmental study and habitat protection and to promote awareness and enjoyment of local and regional natural areas.
Programs: Kitsap audubon donated $25,866 to several campaigns to preserve wildlife and their habitat. $21,750 was donated to the kitsap forest and bay community compaign for the purchase of kitsap forest and bay land that included the port gamble forest--this once privately owned land is now under public stewardship for its management, restoration and preservation. $4,116 was donated to audubon washington and other miscellaneous organizations for conservation of birds and their habitat.
monthly meetings of the membership are held from september through may. Speakers at each meeting present topics relating to conservation and restoration of habitats for birds and other wildlife. In addition, 9 newsletter issues are mailed or emailed to over 1,000 recipients covering topics that promote the organization's mission.
kitsap audubon makes a difference in classrooms throughout the county by sponsoring an audubon adventures program which provides teaching materials to 4th and 5th grade classrooms and through providing scholarships to high school seniors enrolled in a 4 year college environmental and biology programs.
