I currently serve on the Kidznotes Board of Directors and am very familiar with the work of the organization. I have seen the impact of Kidznotes on the students it serves -- and on their families. We bring ensemble-based music education to children who would otherwise not have this opportunity. Whether they stay in the program for one year or twelve years, they gain important social and intellectual skills, and, since the pandemic, the program has provided a true shelter from the perils of loneliness and isolation which have impacted so many of our young people.

Mission: Kidznotes changes lives through ever-expanding participation in youth orchestras, bands, and choirs.
Direct beneficiaries per year: 258 students from Kindergarten to 12th grade
Geographic areas served: Durham County North Carolina's Public Schools
Programs: Inspired by "el sistema," the international movement of music for social change, kidznotes provides free-of-charge musical instruction after school for k-12 students in durham and raleigh. 75% of kidznotes students qualify for federal free and reduced lunch. All kidznotes student musicians receive an instrument and 10 hours of music instruction each week, totaling 400 hours of rigorous, high quality instruction a year at no cost to our families. During the 2017-2018 year, kidznotes enrolled over 400 students from six schools in durham and five schools in raleigh. Kidznotes student musicians also parcipated in a 2-3 week summer camp, had opportunities to perform in conjunction with and learn from numerous guest artists, and performed numerous concerts for a total audience count of 5,000.
