This very special group of people have a goal of supporting the children and families that have been touched by Cancer. This goal is both narrow in focus and broad in scope because each and every situation is so different! Every day they are looking for ways that will best help those individual children and their families. It includes the special Wii stations that have been built up and provided to various hospitals in various configurations to meet the room requirements. Or it may be providing resources to find and understand the long process that is being embarked upon and what is available to meet those needs. This could be help with the reams of paperwork & forms that have to be filled out, providing "overnight" bags, different gift cards for coffee or food to take you a little bit further without having to leave your childs side or gas to get back and forth. While the hospital takes care of the sick child, no one (except the parent(s) or family) take care of the other siblings and what they need for day to day activities. This incredible group of selfless, tireless, hardworking people only want to want to make the child's and families time the best it can be under those circumstances while the scientific community finds a way to eradicate Cancer from the face of the planet!
Because there’s no cure, there’s kidsSTRONG. I must have said that 100 times over the last year that I have been a volunteer. What makes us different? It’s the little things. We know, through experience, that sick children don’t play on adult schedules. We know that sick children are children and need to play. We mounted a program to install Wii Game systems in the Children’s BMT Units at our local hospitals. We know that as family and friends of child in treatment want to help but don’t know how. What brand of tissue holds up the best? What anti-bacterial lotion doesn’t chap your hands? How can I help raise funds to cover the expenses that aren’t covered by insurance to help my friend whose child is sick? We come from the front lines of this life long battle. We are or have developed programs that help to take care of the little things. I love that at kidsSTRONG we balance the creativity that comes from being small and entrepreneurial with the practical expertise.
kidsSTRONG a very special organization whose mission is to vastly improve the childhood cancer experience by providing emotional, educational and financial support to children and families touched by cancer, while increasing awareness and funding research toward a cure. I volunteer my time as a board member to help raise funds and fulfill this mission of kidsSTRONG. The kidsSTRONG team is amazing. In just 18 months, kidsSTRONG built an online grassroots support community of over 400,000 and growing stronger everyday. They have built and deployed Wii Systems for recreational therapy -helping families cope better with treatment isolation. Their events are fun, well-planned and easy to jump in and make a difference. I encourage everyone who wants to make a difference in the lives of children touched by cancer to endorse kidsSTRONG and make a difference today.
