I heard about Kids Meals Inc about 2 weeks ago through my run group. Kids Meals was looking for runners to run and raise money for Kids Meals through Run for a Reason and entering the Houston marathon and half marathon. As soon as I looked them up, I knew I HAD to go help. I have 3 sons, and although we have had lean times in our life, we have always had food in the fridge and pantry. The kitchen was full of volunteers on the day I went, so I was lucky enough to get to ride along with Blanca in a van hand delivering meals to children in need. First, Blanca is a saint! She knows so many of the stories of the families and children and greats everyone with a smile! Second, the heart break/joy of seeing the children run out of houses, so excited to see her and the van and know they have a good lunch coming is a hard dichotomy to get over. Sad that these children are without food; happy that Blanca and the other drivers are there to brighten their day and provide much needed nutrition. I am going back this week with my youngest son to help in the kitchen. I will help prepare lunches for the next day and he will put stickers on the bags to brighten the days of the recipients. No child should be hungry and I am so glad that Kids' Meals is doing something about it.
