Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Education

Mission: A free world-class education for anyone anywhere.

Programs: Platform development: our platform development team focuses on building the web and mobile software that allows us to offer students a world-class personalized learning experience across multiple subject areas. By strengthening the platform, we are able to provide students with a learning experience that rivals that of a personalized, always-available tutor. In 2014, we reached 13 million learners per month on average.

content creation and curation: the khan academy platform contains a robust amount of educational resources. We continue strengthening our math resources, while also accelerating the development of science and humanities offerings, and forging partnerships with eminent academic and education institutions to create world-class content. Khan academy's goal in this realm is to establish ourselves as the go-to place for learners to find the most helpful, discoverable, curated content in high-priority subjects beyond math so they can learn, check their understanding, and gain practice where needed. At the end of 2014, there were 7,400 videos and 150,000 exercises. To date there have been 450 million video views and over 3 billion exercises have been completed.

adoption and awareness: we will continue developing partnerships with institutions around the world (both traditional education institutions and other relevant organizations) to increase awareness and extend the reach of our platform. Example partnerships include college board, lemann foundation, carlos slim foundation. In 2014, we reached 13 million learners per month on average with 70% in the us and 30% internationally. We also have appoximately one million registered teachers and parents.

incubation expenses for launching the khan lab school and fiscal sponsor payments. Khan lab school is applying for their own exempt status and khan academy is acting as the temporary fiscal sponsor.

I have no concern about the CEO and COO salaries. They’re not exorbitant by California standards and they’ve been able to maintain the site without advertising. Those donating value equal educational opportunities for all. Khan Academy has been helpful for my family and I am grateful.

According to its financial statement, Khan Academy CEO and COO compensations were more than $800K and $600K for year 2015.

Do donors have any concern on this?

I donated $55.00. I was supposed to receive a T-Shirt. Looks like I'll have to wait till hell freezes over. No more donations from me.

I am further inspired by a broader view on how pieces and thoughts fit together to form frameworks & strategies that work. In order for the outcomes of leveraging technology to solve real world problems, solutions must be adaptable and scalable globally.

KhanAcademy.org is my choice because it is for free, for everyone, forever. Khan has proven 'You Can Learn Anything.' Khan's current challenge is to figure out a better way to teach his adult leadership team how to motivate, delegate, set goals, monitor performance & hold people accountable.

I plan to use Khan's processes in conjunction with my interactive leadership video solutions to make adult leadership training quicker, better and fun. The solution is adaptable as a programmatic addition to CSNYC.org (the computer science education 10 year plan for every student in NYC public schools). It would also be valuable in training and mentoring the winners of the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders.

I have included this whiteboard animation link because it is a fun, collaborative evening repeatable as a fundraiser for any charity. It shows the 5 steps to create any Movement plus a community message: take your work and donations seriously, but not yourself.

The video shares a common theme with my Khan Academy choice as well as my past charitable contributions.
- For 4 years, I co-sponsored with HECFE (Higher Education Council for England), the 5th Estate Communications Megatrend Research. The Oxford Internet Institute Director and myself collaborated & blended the academic and business perspectives.
- I sponsored the 128th annual alumni dinner of the City College of NY honoring Barbara Walters, my mother - the 1rst woman graduate in accounting & education, and her two sisters who also graduated from CUNY.
- I was a founding, early adopter of the Digital Giving Media publication from Ambassadors for Philanthropy.
- As a Board member for Volunteers of America in NYC, I chaired the real estate property committee and implemented digital safety solutions for the homeless.

'Females are underrepresented because there is a stereotype that girls shouldn't do that' and thus won't get jobs, can't lead nor become superheroes.
As a woman FinTech pioneer has worked at IBM, Federal Reserve Bank, Merrill Lynch, Citigroup, JPMorganChase & on public company boards... it is a good thing I didn't know I was not supposed to do STEM. Thus, I was prepared for the technological innovations that everyone continues to experience each day and the problem solving skills to solve challenges.

My kids attend high performing schools where the students mostly come from wealthy homes and receive outside tutoring. The schools do not provide much instruction, if at all. Khan Academy give our girls the instruction that others are able to pay for and allowing them to keep up with high performing kids.

Thanks Khan.

I wish I could recall how I learned about Khan Academy? I believe it was via a TED talk video. Since finding the Khan Academy, I've viewed several lectures, just because.

Love the model...education, anywhere, any time and the only price of admission is a web connected device.

Small team doing BIG things.
