Mission: Restorative justice begins by bringing together the community to promote accountability through positive peer pressure.
Programs: Offenders have an opportunity to have their cases heard before their peers in a confidential setting. These referrals come from juvenile probation officers and district court. Currently, they have referred 100 first time offenders to kyc to be sentenced. A benefit of kyc is that victims and local community receive service and redress, including monetary repayment. Kyc youth members 6th through 12th grade are trained byprofessionals for 8 weeks to be youth attorneys, judges, and clerks. A professional coordinator and youth members work together to help provide effective sentences for clients. Ketchikan youth court staff recruit, screen. Train, and provide supervision and support to all youth court members. This training prepares them for optimal effectiveness in day-to-day operations of this program.
