Mission: Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc.’s mission is to unite people to beautify the city, improve the environment, and foster pride in the community.
Programs: Beautification and placemaking: through the greenspace and gateways and ldos programs, 52 little-used, undervalued or detrimental places were transformed into pocket parks, greenspaces, gardens, or neighborhood gateways. 421 neighborhoods were cleaned up by neighbors and volunteers, and 742 blocks were adopted and maintained by concerned citizens. 20,453 volunteers assisted with these projects in 2014.
community forestry: through the community forestry program, 3,004 trees were planted in 62 neighborhoods around central indiana. These trees will increase the tree cover in areas that were significantly lacking, reduce crime by creating more sociable neighborhoods, improve the air and water quality, and increase property values. 3,268 volunteers assisted with this program in 2014.
through youth programming, 300 students at 8 schools were engaged in creating and maintaining outdoor classrooms, planting trees, and developing environmental programs for their school. Keep indianapolis beautiful also engaged 85 youth to water and maintain 6,600 trees, as well as participate in enrichment activities such as learning financial management skills and networking with green-collar professionals.
