Mission: The mission of katie's krops is to empower youth to start and maintain vegetable gardens of all sizes and donate the harvest to help feed people in need, as well as to assist and inspire others to do the same.
Programs: In 2016 katie's krops continued to empower youth to start and maintain vegetable gardens across the united states to empower youth to grow a healthy end to hunger. As of the end of 2016 there are 101 gardens in 30 states kept thriving from the generous grants and donations that are received. All gardens are started and maintained by children. This year katie's krops growers grew and donated 26,000 pounds of healthy produce to soup kitchens, food banks, homeless shelters and directly to families in need. We hosted our 4th annual katie's krops camp where 12 katie's krops growers were invited to learn new growing techniques, meet fellow growers and conduct a service project to benefit the community. Monthly healthy garden to table dinners continue to be a staple of our program. Katie's krops dinners are free, healthy, garden to table meals for families in need. In 2016 our young volunteers provided 2,347 meals at an average cost per meal of 1. 10. 628. 45 youth service hours went into preparing the 2,347 meals.
