Mission: Guided by jewish values, the karsh family social service center engages the wilshire boulevard temple membership and community organizations to improve the lives of our underserved neighbors by providing valued social services.
Programs: Food pantry - the karsh center's leanse ratner family food pantry regularly distributes nutritionally balanced groceries to 250 families each week, thanks to provisions primarily purchased through the los angeles regional food bank and hopenet. For pantry patrons, the karsh center, courtesy of queenscare, features onsite nurses who provide blood pressure monitoring, flu shots, and other preventive services.
tikkun olam - utilizing and engaging volunteers is an integral component of the karsh center's mission. Volunteer opportunities vary and expand regularly, with examples including skilled and trained wilshire boulevard temple members and other community volunteers working alongside professionals, families and individuals distributing food at one of the center's food pantries or during the annual big give thanksgiving meal distribution benefiting 4,000 people, individuals providing administrative support within the center, young and old assembling bicycles for an annual give-away for young clients of the center, and more.
