Mission: The karen organization of minnesota's (kom) mission is to enhance the quality of life for all refugees from burma in minnesota.
Programs: Refugee social services program:under the refugee social services (rss) grant, the grantee consortium strives to achieve specified outcomes in four areas. (1) refugee families have stable housing; (2) refugees have adjusted their immigration status (kom does not handle)(3) refugee families are engaged with communityservices and programs; and(4) refugee families are independently functioning. Kom served 388 clients under the rss program in 2014.
refugee employment services program:under the rufugee employment services (res) employment services grant, kom strives to place clients in jobs and/or enroll them in short term vocational programs. Kom served 232 clients und the res program in 2014.
youth services:kom partners with st. Paul and roseville school districts to provide academic support, leadership skills training, and mental health services to over 200 karen students. Kom also coordinates a youth mentor program matching local professionals with st. Paul and roseville school students in one-on-one relationships for a 3-6 months period during an academic year. The organization served 222 youths in 2014.
