Serving KYC started for me in 2017 when I had the opportunity to work as an intern during my MSW. Since then I’ve had the privilege of being a volunteer, Board Member, Program Evaluation Chair, and now Board Chair. When I think of KYC and all the ways LGBTQIA+ young people are served by the incredible staff, resources, and programs all I can think of is the basic human need/right to safety. KYC is a true haven, a place where some of the most vulnerable and unique young people get to experience a sense of belonging, autonomy, freedom, and unconditional love. All young people, as they are, deserve and need to feel safe. My personal mission is exactly that of KYC- to serve and support LGBTQIA+ young people in creating safe, affirming, and empowering environments and opportunities for themselves.
I am so inspired by every young person we serve and hope to inspire each young person to become the most authentic, healthy, and joyous adult possible. I truly believe queer joy can heal the world, especially when it comes from our youth. KYC is the perfect place to foster this kind of development, community, and feelings of empowerment for LGBTQIA+ young people across Ohio to truly live their best lives.
Amazing non-profit with hard working and driven staff. Their impact on Columbus metro and broader state of OH LGBTQ+ youth is immense.
I have had the pleasure of being a donor and volunteer for Kaleidoscope Youth Center before having the honor of joining the board.
I have learned much in the time I have been afforded in this capacity thus far, and have a deep appreciation for the significance of their task in advocating for, and providing supporting services too, LGBTQIA+ youth and their families in our community.
Their mission is essential, and the need for support of the many endeavors they undertake to accomplish it even more so.
I have served on the board of directors for KYC for 2 years. In that time I've learned from the spectacular KYC staff; how important it is to connect with the youth, the passion it takes to serve our LGBTQ+ youth and the dedication it takes to drive the mission.
I’m proud to be part of this organization and the staff is a huge part of the reason. Thanks for all that you do KYC.
I first became involved with KYC as a donor. My natural curiosity led me to not only learn more about the organization but also how to get more involved. I've been on the board for a little over a year now and love being able to support this amazing organization in this way. No other organization in Central Ohio is dedicate to queer youth like KYC is.
I have served on the board of directors for KYC for over 3 years; in that time I've seen the staff of KYC show up for the youth they serve every single day. Every staff member here is a passionate advocate for LGBTQ+ youth and demonstrates enormous compassion and dedication on a daily basis. Beyond their passion, they are competent and capable people who with capacity for both joy and serious dedication. They hold space for the youth to be themselves, to feel safe, and to feel seen as their authentic selves.
I have also had the advantage of working closely with the organizational leadership (current Executive Director: Erin Upchurch; Deputy Director: Karen Hewitt). I am amazed at their dedication to not only serving KYC youth NOW but in ensuring the future of the organization through partnership with the Board of Directors. I have confidence that their stewardship is preparing KYC for another great 25 years of growth and service to the youth of central Ohio--and beyond.
Kaleidoscope provides such a valuable service in our community by offering a safe and empowering environment- we had at least 450 unique youth that visited last year! The staff is passionate and attentive and really goes the extra mile. The board members are engaged and involved. What is most incredible is to see the youth blossom with the support of KYC- shy and reserved when they first start attending and over time you can see their confidence build with the encouragement and respect they receive. I am honored to do my part to keep KYC moving forward and excited to continue seeking out new opportunities to make our services even better.
Kaleidoscope Youth Center is an amazing organization that caters to LGBTI+ youth in Ohio. As a volunteer at their drop in Center I've been able to experience first hand the incredible work they do. From daily 'Check-Ins' to 'Genderscope', everyone is able to be their true authentic self with no fear of judgement. I highly recommend this organization to youth looking for a safe space to socialize and participate in a variety of programs.
