I'm a resident. Life is good here, but there are issues with the CEO/CFO/Board of Directors. As for cost, it is very costly. Management/Board raises monthly fees and apartment prices higher than is needed. Kahala Nui has a large investment fund, but they don't use it to keep fees/prices at a reasonable level considering it is a non-profit. People have stated that there are times when Kahala Nui is being operated like a For-Profit org. Some residents are struggling to paid their monthly fees.
The Board has stated (documented) that their fiduciary duty is to the org and not specifically to residents.
Kahala Nui is planning an expansion (very preliminary) but maybe 135-150 independent living apartments, but no additional assisted living/memory/nursing units. Current assisted living/memory/nursing units are near capacity. I know of some residents waiting for an empty unit to move into.
