Janeen is amazing. She and her animals show the epitome of compassion and care. She follows up with every client and mames sure they are getting what they need. She is always trying to find ways to do more for veterans and their families. Pure dedication!!
The trainer Janine is a bad and unprofessional human that destroyed my wife Christa’s (Army vet) relationship with her service dog Swift. I am still so upset this happened to my wife, and this should not be allowed, and it should be illegal! Janine abused her power and caused more harm to my family because of her lying unprofessional actions. Shame on you Janine! Karma has a way of finding folks like you, and it won’t be the good kind.
As the CEO and founder of Code 1 Wellness, I can't say enough good things about K9's For Freedom & Independence. Our missions align closely—both aimed at uplifting the lives of first responders and veterans through specialized support. The work they do in providing trained service dogs is invaluable and transformative.
These aren't just pets; they're lifelines for individuals battling emotional and psychological hurdles. The attention to detail in their training program is extraordinary, equipping these dogs to become emotional anchors for our heroes. Their dual-impact approach is inspiring, benefiting both rescued animals and those who've served our communities.
We wholeheartedly endorse K9's For Freedom & Independence,
This is one way the law enforcement community is learning to heal through innovative ways. The training and exposure such a well-rounded curriculum provides will benefit my canine and myself and provided needed ongoing training that will benefit the agents, officers and families we serve.
I have been working with K9’s for freedom and independence for about three to four after applying for a service dog. The staff, Janeen, has been very helpful and knowledgeable about the training of a service dog. She has been very patient with me and has always been straight and forward with me. Upon signing the contract, provided by them it was very clear and precise about the training and rules and regulations of the contract. She has answered all of questions about contract clearly and accurately. Janeen and the organization are very professional about the work and service they provide including the character of the staff.
As a veteran and ex investigator I would highly recommend this organization to anyone in need of a good service dog.
Sincerely,
Luis Valladares
Howdy, I’ve known Janeen for over five years, she trained me a pup to assist with my mobility issues. My dog has been with me for four years now and has been my best friend and “walker” or cane as you may call him. I’m not 100% sure what the situation is with the dog named Swift but all the negative reviews seem to be based on the pup being taken away due to whatever issue(s) occurred. Janeen is a very demanding person and expects follow ups as well as meetings to keep the dog and owner trained and up to date. I will say that at times Janeen and I had miscommunication but at no point did I feel like I was going to lose my pup. Follow the rules of the contract, do your part in training, and enjoy your service dog/best friend. I hope a resolution has been found because K9s for Freedom and Independence has saved me. I’m 100% Service Disabled and support this organization!
Janeen is incredibly knowledgeable and dedicated to making sure the dogs that she trains are paired with the appropriate persons. She has a heart for helping her brother and sister veterans and first responders. I am a combat veteran with 70% disability rating for PTSD and worked as a project manager for a veterans service organization. Not everyone is deserving of a service animal, which is why she rigorously vets the people that sign up for her program and holds them to the contracts they sign. When I had to move overseas, Janeen took my beloved dog in and retrained him so that he may be suitable companion to a firefighter suffering from ill health due to working at Ground Zero. She did this as a personal favor, knowing that I could not fully compensate her for her time or efforts due to my financial situation at the time. I was honored to work with her, and even more honored to call her my friend.
I am retired Captain, medically discharged with the CA Dept. of Corrections, after a concurrent history of CI's in the line of duty. After several years in researching service digs for LEO's with PTSD & TBI, I found this agency to be the only one who responded to my inquiry. VETERANS are well taken care of, but LEO are not. Janeen responded
quickly and professionally. I completed the enrollment packet, provided references, provided medical documentation, and had specific documents notarized as requested by Janeen. I am extremely grateful and utterly happy with my K9, I am in regular
contact with Janeen, am driving from Utah to Texas for ongoing training, and am abiding by the rules of the contract. I ama substiantial donator, and will continue to be. LEO will completely understand Janeen's direction because I am well trained by individuals like her who expect bother the K9 & Handler to be safe & happy. I am also a mother of a Seal Team 3 who fought in Rahmadhi and Fallujah, and a daughter who is retired Air Force who served 4 tours down range in Iraq, and is now a SARC.
Military personnel has it easy when it comes down to getting their needs met.. and are often spoiled. LEO who has wAlked the streets of this Nation are underserved. For this reason, I have provided a substantial monetary donation and will continue to provide substantial monetary donations so that my LEO brothers & sisters will be served.
This "Charity/Not for profit" likes to make people, with mental health issues/PTSD, jump through hoops just to keep their service animal! It feels more like control frwaks, than people WANTING to "Help". Give Swift back Yo Christa, what you did was AWFUL!

Swift is not a Service Dog. Only after training with us for at least a year and going through our rigid certification process and passing, would any of our dogs be considered a Service Dog. Christa was supposed to go through a training and rehabilitation program with us and our dog. She disappeared with our dog for over 2.5 months and moved from Texas to Utah during that time. She only made maybe 9 trainings appointments out of approximately 50 she was supposed to go to in the 9 months she had Swift. She did not follow the instructions and guidance of our trainers and constantly argued about our training process. The hard descision was made to reclaim our dog. The contract is clear and was signed by Christa and the Organization. Rules are for everyone and everyone else follows them, so should Christa.
It is a real shame greed and power take over (and imo what is wrong with our country) a service company whom didn’t realize that what harm they caused a veteran! this istory infuriated me and blows my mind!
So what, maybe both sides could have handled it all differently, but the most important thing is that Swift was saving a life!
Isn’t that what any of the service companies ultimate goal is, saving lives?

If the actions of this nonprofit, by removing a service dog from a VETERAN with SEVERE PTSD, result in suicide, or suicidal thoughts or actions. I will personally hold this organization responsible. If you do not want to help train the dog in service capacity any longer, I can accept that. Please return Swift to Christa and I will make sure to find a service to finish the training.

A dear family friend has had her dog ripped from her arms, literally. I witnessed so many great moments while following Christa and Swift’s journey through her PTSD and I am utterly disgusted at this organization. I can’t imagine how lonely and scared Swift may be. Both are now traumatized!!! RETURN SWIFT!

This not for profit forcibly took away a service dog from someone with debilitating PTSD. The reason has not been provided from the organization as to why the dog was forcibly removed by a member of this not for profit. I believe this is all based on personal feelings toward the person using the service dog and NOT by business policy.

Very bad at resolving issues with clients. My daughter-in-law was a former client and Janeen removed the dog after almost a year of being paired for PTSD. Uses threatening, belittling, and threats of filing charges to harass her. PTSD takes 22 vet’s lives a day and Janeen wants to roll the dice with taking a service dog from a vet with PTSD. #GiveSwiftBackToChrista

They need to give one of my Facebook friends (husband and wife) their dog back! #GiveSwiftBacktoChrista Terrible that your organization has done such an awful thing!

This organization does not keep the well being of the participants in mind.
My wife had her service dog Swift taken away after 9 months of bonding! Then unprofessionally took the dog off leash and put her in a police van, with no goodbye departure or closure. #GiveSwiftBacktoChrista

Sad to see a dog taken from the very owner hes bonded with for almost a year, all over some paperwork. If this organization truly cared about the dogs they pair veterans with, the situation could have been handled much better. The trainers dont seem to care for the animals nor the veterans trying to improve. Shame on them. Do not use this organization, unless you want to be taken advantage of.

Why would you remove a service animal that was trained to a veterans special needs in such a horrible way in public and making a scene?? These poor babies are some of our veterans everything!! They should not be treated as material inanimate objects!!!! That veteran needs her dog as much as her fur baby needs her!!!!

This place pairs service dogs with veterans untrained at the time, let’s the veteran with PTSD train the dog with minimal assistance and the removes the now trained dog from the veteran after the dog has been with the veteran every day for 9 months. A VETERAN WITH PTSD THAT DEPENDED ON THAT DOG FOR PTSD, ANXIETY, AND DEPRESSION. That’s theft. JANEEN give Swift back to Christa!!!

The Prinical Officer is very knowledge about dog training and maintance. Unfortunately uncompassionate.
Former participant here. Avoid this organization and trainer at all costs. The use of intimidation is common practice. The focus is not on the well being/health of the particpant OR particpant/dog team. Uneducated about the diagnosis's of the poplutation meant to be served. You will have to sign a contract. The dog is NEVER yours.
After 9 months of workting with this organization, training, bonding, living with my savior, the Principal Officer YANKED the dog and gear right out of my hands. This was in front of a public business doorway creating a high stress and aggresive eniviroment. The dog in perfect medical health. This organization set this Veteran back about a year in positive growth and forced me to return to medication. Please stay away.

From the beginning Jeanne demonstrated to me that she goes above and beyond the norm. As a non-profit myself who works in a different area for our veterans she identifies the hidden needs that some veterans need and require along with their companion and gets them the total help the veteran requires.
