Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Animal Protection & Welfare, Animals

Mission: k9.5 is committed to saving and protecting animals facing euthanasia, abandonment, disaster, or life as a stray and placing them in dedicated, caring homes for the remainder of their lives. As a rescue we are devoted to granting proper and complete veterinary, behavioral and emotional support in order to give the animals the protection and care that they deserve. We offer a chance for animals most often ignored due to size, breed, health, age or appearance, promoting more awareness of the variety of animals in need, while providing the animals with a renewed life. With love, commitment, and public education, we strive to end overpopulation, as well as end unacceptable care or abuse in the lives of animals.

About 3 - 4 years ago, a gorgeous pit bull who had been hit by a car and was lying in the street for a couple of days, then she landed at the shelter. She was the sweetest dog and had breed/injury/large size against her. I networked EVERYWHERE with no success until Alison (in another state) responded with a big YES. Almost immediately I saw this dog's photo at Alison's site w/ her new name (NYLA) and a brand new PINK set of wheels to get her up and around. I have never forgotten this sweet dog, and, most of all, Alison's kindness. Go to the rescue web site and see the magnitude of issues she takes on with the dogs. She is a St. Theresa of dogs!! It's very expensive and sometimes heartbreaking to take on some of the animals she takes on.......a lot of rescues won't get NEAR them because of the time and $$ commitment. Alison's in this FOR THE DOGS!!

I highly recommend anyone on our Southeast area looking to adopt a companion, to check out K9.5 Rescue. This group does a wonderful job of saving these poor souls that would not have anywhere else to go. I adopted a beautiful senior pyr from this group in January, 2015. He was the sweetest Great Pyrenees that we had ever met. Even with his medical problems, they took excellent care of him during his 4+ year stay with the rescue and he had been used at their fundraiser events. That was a testament to how well they had worked with him. He went from being a shelter dog with two strikes already against him because he was a special needs dog to becoming a loved family member. Since that time, I have tried to help network dogs that they have available through the internet and have had many interactions with Alli Rathert, the director of K9.5. She is a wonderful person to work with and has a great compassion and understanding for these animals and goes above and beyond to make sure they are all part of her family.
