Volunteering Oportunities

Nonprofit Overview

Mission: K-9 Angels Rescue is committed to rescuing and re-homing shelter dogs in and around the City of Houston, regardless of their breed or their circumstance. We are motivated by the dire need to educate the public about the effects of irresponsible breeding practices, while helping the community by alleviating overcrowding in area shelters. As we believe proper health care of one’s pet is a requirement of good ownership, K-9 Angels Rescue only adopts out dogs that have been fully vetted and altered.

I am confused on these reviews. In looking at other places online they are known for turning down most applications. What is it? Is there a need or not? It seems you have more applications than you know what to do with. So you don’t even respond. You just leave it to us to read through your site to figure it out. It is important to vet people and homes to be sure an an animal is going to a good home. I get that. But if you are going to be so restrictive please please make that clearer. There are many other rescues that would want us.

My two beloved dogs came to me from the wonderful people at K9 Angels. When I found out everybody working there, vigorously, tirelessly, cheerfully, was a volunteer, and every pet they save gets spayed/neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated, I began donating to their very worthy cause. All that work to find parents for these orphan pets is their attempt to make sure there are no more lonely hungry strays on the streets of Houston. To make that more possible, they run an affiliated Project, the Empty Shelter Project, a MASH-style clinic they set up in various spots around Houston every few months and dozens of their volunteers work with vets to spay/neuter/microchip/vaccinate several hundred pets belonging to people in the neighborhood, all at no charge to those people.
For these reasons, and for all the love, advice, and supplies they offer to the foster parents and adoptive parents of their pets, I think they are truly angels (maybe even saints!) I’m so grateful to them personally, and also as a citizen of Houston for the benefits the city receives from their efforts.

The K-9 Ángels is an amazing organization filled with volunteers that have true love for animals. I’ve seen them, first hand, work tirelessly to save a life of animals not just by taking them out of the high kill shelters but by putting the work behind getting them healthy so they can be adopted. Their adoption process though it is thorough, it helps match the pets to the most ideal home where they will have significantly less chances of ending back at the shelter. Putting these pets in the homes of adopters that will truly love their new companions. We adopted our pet from them, and they matched us with our perfect companion. We are grateful to have the K-9 Angels in the community!

Wonderful group of dedicated animal lovers! Adoptable dogs and cats here are fully vetted and healthy. They are all fostered in homes, so many have started training. Fill out an application and let them know what you are looking for in a new best friend. You can’t go wrong adopting from here!

I volunteer at the adoption center which is open on the weekend, foster dogs in my home during the week, and adopted our new pup, Rio (see photo), from K-9 Angels. K-9 Angels is run solely by volunteers who do an amazing job trying to address Houston’s terrible problem with homeless dogs. In addition to saving shelter dogs and preparing them for adoption, they started a quarterly clinic to spay, neuter, vaccinate and microchip pets of citizens who may not be able to afford these essential services. All around, it’s a phenomenal group who spend donations efficiently to save as many dogs and cats as possible.

I adopted my sweet Maple dog (hurricane Harvey survivor) and my kitties from K-9 Angels. They are thorough about vetting potential adopters, which I appreciate, and work hard to find the right dog (or cat) match for each person. They are organized and all volunteer. Great org.

I have had wonderful experiences with K-9 Angels Rescue. My daughter has fostered for them, ending up with one beautiful foster fail we love dearly, "Doc." We ended up adopting one of her fosters, "Jax." He was pulled from a shelter, after being beat up by his siblings. My daughter took him in as a foster. He had a bit of a rocky start. He couldn't go to the adoption center at first because he was lacking shots and a few other health issues. My daughter would bring him to our house on the weekends and needless to say, we fell in love with this sweet, beautiful, black pup! From personal experience, I have found K-9 Angels to be extremely professional, caring people who are committed to the lives of the animals they rescue. Adopters are thoroughly vetted; they truly care about the animals and the people who adopt. I have highly recommended K-9 Angels to anyone looking to adopt a dog or cat. I believe in this organization and it's purpose and donate every year.

We checked out some other rescues and found this one to be very well run and clearly set on their mission to rescue, educate and directly address the unwanted pet population in the Houston area. We have adopted from them three times now and are very happy with our choice.

100% volunteer based, pull from high kill shelters. Every dog pulled is placed in a foster home. Caring individuals, thorough checks on adopters, started the empty cheater project to help low income areas with low or no cost spay neuter and vaccines. Cars and dogs are at this rescue too. 100% donation run.

I adopted my Lulu and Meatball from K-9 Angels. It is an all-volunteer run dog rescue in a city overrun with strays and unwanted animals. They are truly doing God’s work saving and getting as many of these animals into loving homes, and educating the public on the importance of spay/neuter and responsible pet ownership.

Words cannot describe K-9 Angels. Completely run by volunteers whose sole purpose is saving dogs and cats lives from overcrowded shelters and finding them the best home !i know they have placed more than 5,000 dogs in homes since 2012! They also help with overcrowding through The Empty Shelter project. I cannot say enough about what a great group this is

K-9 Angels Rescue is an amazing organization! The all-breed rescue works closely with the Harris County Shelter to provide dogs with a second chance at life. Each dog in the program is placed in a foster home so that the organization is able to learn about the animal's personality, while the foster home provides basic training and socialization for every dog. Each week, biographies and photos of the animals are posted so that people are able to find dogs that are a good fit for their homes. If you're looking to adopt a furry friend to be part of your family, this is the rescue for you!

I became involved with K-9 Angles after my Bella died. The most rewarding time of my life. The organization not only saves lives but we also educate the community and work with them to extend the life of their pets.

I don’t even know where to begin. I have always wanted to be a part of an organization that is doing something amazing. I heard of K9 Angels before but never made the leap to volunteer until there was a dog at the Bellaire pound that no one was coming to get. He was a big, unaltered, pit bull make. The ladies from K9A agreed to help this boy out and neuter him and post him as a courtesy post on their website. He had his surgery and I agreed that he could recover with me. Shortly after, he went to the adoption center at K9A and a family just happened to walk in when he was there. They fell in love with him and now he has a loving home. If it wasn’t for K9A for helping this dog ( who wasn’t even theirs), who knows where he would be now. That one act of kindness opened the door for me to fall in love with this organization. I am now an active volunteer and a foster mom! What they do is meaningful and make a difference, from the Empty Shelter project to the dogs currently in our program, they are truly saving lives. The most importantly is they are EDUCATING the population on the importance of proper care of animals. I thank them for the important work that they do and their effort in making Houston a no kill city.

I started off being a foster for the rescue dogs of K-9 Angels. I chose this group despite it being a further drive than others because they only ask a one week commitment at a time, provide you with everything you need for free, and are available to assist in any way needed. I have LOVED the support and community this group has provided through their private facebook group and the volunteers on the weekends. Now, I am ALSO a weekend volunteer. I love it because its so highly organized, the puppies and dogs are so well cared for and sweet and the people that come through are wonderful. I also really love how the application approval volunteers do thorough background checks for all adopters. As fosters we come to fall in love with our pups and want the best for them. I love that only the best are given the opportunity to adopt from this group. Such a wonderful non-profit to be part of!!!

We live in NM but found a dog we wanted on the K9 Angels website last year. We were looking for a senior cairn cross & there he was! I knew it was a long shot but I started contacting them right away. I filled out the adoption papers. I was impressed at how detailed they were & the questions they asked. They check out their applicants carefully before they let an animal go. They finally contacted my vet who knew us on first name basis & gave us a glowing report. (As I told their director, I see my vets more often than my own sister)! Last Sept, with great help from K9, we got our pup. He has been a great joy in our lives.
This organization works hard to save as many animals as possible from kill shelters. They provide care to animals that need it & loving foster situations for these deserving pets. But most important to me is the care they take in placing an animal into a good forever home.
Thank you K9 Angels for your excellent work!

Her name is now Hope and she lives in Pa but up until a few days ago she lived in Houston Texas.
Her life was that of what we're guessing getting bred and starved all while living outside in the nasty elements.
She's heartworm+, uti, another worm is in her, enlarged heart with heart disease, blood in her urine, her vocal cords we believe were cut and much more. Blood work is still being tested and she stunk something horrible.
I couldn't leave her in the shelter to die so I begged to get her. Unfortunately I needed a local rescue group to help me and K9 did. I couldn't thank you enough for trusting an unknown person from out of state.
Hope is on a special diet and so spunky now after a couple days of food. We totally love this sweet girl and truly love watching her transformation. She has a long road of recovery but they think she'll be in great health in time.
She's the best Christmas present we could of ever received. We totally adore our baby girl.
Merry Christmas,
Hope
