I love the J1A slogan, "I am One". For me, the journey started when my coworker gave me a necklace that was purchased from J1A. I felt good about wearing something that was delicately crafted by the sweet hands of a woman from a continent far, far away. That purchase helped her and her family. It made me feel connected to her in some small way. Then a friend bought me wine charms from J1A as a house warming gift. Two special women in my life who don't know each other, both bought me gifts from J1A. This made me curious about what J1A was doing in Kenya. So I Googled "Just One Africa". I had no idea how much they were really doing on the ground. It lit a spark for me. My friend had been volunteering with them for a few years and I never really asked her about it. She shared with me that there was an upcoming summer experience trip to Kenya. We decided it was a once in a lifetime opportunity and we had to go. Amy, Clay & their Kenyan partners did such an incredible job crafting our experience. It was 100% perfect in every way. Twenty three people left the US and met up in Amsterdam for the trip of a lifetime. Little did we know, our lives would be forever changed. We spent a week with two of the J1A partners and the experiences were life changing & so incredibly inspiring. We got a behind the scenes peak into the life of a Maasai tribe. They showed us how to make fire, how to build homes, how to clean huts, and how to dance! It was fascinating learning about their culture. We went to the livestock market and bought goats which was a once in a lifetime experience (I hope). We got to participate in the Day of the African Child. It was heartwarming to see the local leaders support the boy / girl child. It was such a fun day. We met women that participate in the bead program. They shared their jewelry and crafts with us. Such beautiful creations that we were able to bring home and share with friends and family. We hosted water distribution trainings and shared information about hygiene. We even got the opportunity to do follow ups with people that had been using the filters for several months. People shared stories about what they were doing with the money that they saved each month now that they didn't have to purchase water or medications. One gentleman bought a new roof and solar lights. To us, that might not sound like a big deal, but to him, it was life changing. One filter can change so many lives. It opens doors for people. If there is one thing I loved about Kenya, it was the people. They were always smiling and always quick to share their hearts. I'm not sure I've ever experienced joy like I did in Kenya. If I was going to sum up this trip with one word, it would absolutely be Joy. It was such a good reminder that we can all be one for somebody. I can't wait to go back and see all the kids and hear about what they've been doing since our short time together. If you are looking to support a non-profit or take an experience trip, this is the organization for you.
In June I took a two week trip to Kenya with Just One Africa. I went with a team of 23 people to learn about the mission of Just One Africa and what that looks like on the ground in Kenya. We distributed water filters in communities without access to clean water, and learned first hand what a difference pure water makes to the health, wellbeing, and success of a community. I feel so blessed to have seen the life changing impact of Just One Africa's water filters, and loved getting to know the wonderful people of Kenya. I can't wait to return!
My wife and I spent two weeks in early June with the Just One team for an experience trip to Kenya. We spent a week a piece with two of Just One's Kenyan partners. Just One's passion for their partners and the communities they serve was amazing to see first hand. The love and care Just One provides was life-changing; both for the communities and for us! It was so rewarding to meet the partners, staff and most of all the children and community members in each community we worked. From helping distribute water filters, to worshipping with the children and celebrating the national "Day of the African Child", our lives have been forever changed. This is thanks to the wonderful work that Just One Africa does. The trip was well organized, and traveling with 23 people, this was no easy feat! We all felt safe, secure, cared for and, of course, well fed. Just One is doing amazing things for these Kenyan communities and it was an honor and a privilege to be a small part of it.
I have had the opportunity of volunteering for Just One Africa for around four years now. The work that they do is truly amazing. I recently went to Kenya with the team. It was an incredible experience. I was so grateful to be able to see what the organization does and the impact they are making in people’s lives. It was truly rewarding and makes me even more grateful to be able to work with such a wonderful organization and group of people.
I just returned from a two week mission trip to Kenya with Just One Africa with a team of 23 people who love serving & changing the lives of young orphans and those “without” access to clean, pure water. We spent ~ a week in the Great Rift Valley & the 2nd week just north of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Over 120 families will have access to an unlimited supply now with Uzima filter. After more than 6 trips, I never cease to be amazed at the joy I get on these outreaches. I’m already starting to make plans for my next trip with Just One Africa!
My daughter and I had the privilege to travel with JOA to Kenya recently. Words cannot describe the experience we had. JOA is doing an awesome job of helping their Kenyan partners in touch so many lives. From rescuing kids and providing them safe haven to educating them and empowering them. Providing clean water and saving countless lives. Empowering local Masai women with bead programs. JOA has also funded many sustainability projects. Everything we did there for two weeks touched some one in some way. We even ate and shopped at places that supports the local artists and women. We felt totally alive every moment on the trip as we were living for someone else.
As a volunteer working behind the scenes with Just One Africa performing various tasks that help keep the momentum of change in motion, it is my delight to see all the amazing changes they are able to make in the lives of SO many. The heart behind Just One Africa and it's founders is that change happen in everyONE's life touched by their presence. No ONE person or ONE life is to be untouched. The process begins in Kenya and touches lives across oceans then ultimately returns back to the communities in Kenya, where it began. The beads from the bead program are hand made buy the widows and young mothers in Kenya, purchased by J1A and brought here to the states where teens in the "I AM One" clubs string the beads and then teams of volunteers and others, finalize the process of turning these beads into beautiful jewelry, ornaments, bookmarks and the like. With every touch to these products, lives are being changed for the better, knowing they are making a difference for someONE. This organization is true to who they say they are. The founders gracefully demonstrate an earthy example of what Jesus asks of us as servants and disciples. To be able to serve with an organization who positively impacts the number of lives that Just One Africa does, is honestly humbling to me! The work they do is awww-inspiring and encouraging to me! Just One Africa provides hope where hope seems impossible and it is done from a true servants HEART!
This organization is FABULOUS! Their heart behind the mission is SO contagious! They love working as the "Hands and Feet" of Christ to bring clean water to remote Africa. They are wonderful to work with and I am proud to promote their non-profit to others. I am One!! You can be too!!
JOA is doing incredible work to change the lives and futures of vulnerable people in Kenya. This group is so professional, organized and thoughtful about everything they do, and is such a joy to work with. It's very clear they care deeply about their mission and those they serve!
I had the privilege of hearing Amy (Director/Co-Founder) speak at an event in my hometown all the way in Minnesota and wow! It's truly incredible how this organization uses so many practical resources to not only help those in multiple communities around Kenya, but to keep building upon them as well. They truly understand the term "sustainable growth" and are demonstrating that in all that they do. From their amazing water filters, to beautiful handcrafted beaded jewelry, to dairy cows, and so much more, this organization knows how build up communities in so many simple, yet innovative ways. Keep up the awesome work Just One Africa!! :D
I interact with hundreds of nonprofits in my job. In all my time working with nonprofits around the world, Just One Africa stands out as a standout, excellent, world class organization of the highest caliber. I've spent time with the founders and their local partners in Kenya, and have seen the impact that each and every gift delivers. Giving to Just One Africa is truly one of the simplest ways you could change someones life.
My wife and I had the opportunity to have dinner with the founders, Clay and Amy Churchill. When we got to hear their heart and passion for everything happening in Kenya, we were both so moved and wanted to find a way to be a part! We own a small business, and believe in what they're doing so much, we decided we wanted to begin donating a portion of every sale to Just One Africa's clean water campaign, and are so excited to begin sowing into the great work they're doing in Kenya! It's such an honor to be a part of something so impactful. We trust that our finances are not just being given away, but invested into truly sustainable change in the communities they work with. So thankful for the opportunity to meet the founders and be a part of this great cause!
I worked on a fundraising campaign for Just One Africa with a gym I belong to. The fundraiser was a huge success in great part due to the level of professionalism and excellence with which Just One Africa operates. Once they received the proceeds of our fundraiser, Amy from Just One Africa traveled to Kenya and immediately put our funds to work, providing water filters for a local community. She sent us us pictures and an update videos on the work they were doing. It was really rewarding to see our gym logo on water filters across the globe, but more than that, to see and hear about the impact of our donations directly from the families in Kenya. I plan to continue partnering with Just One Africa in the years to come.
My daughter served with Just One for a month in Kenya this summer. Her experience with Just One, the Hope Beyond school, Dorcus and the Churchills was indescribable and life changing. She spent a month working closely with the kids, shadowing the social workers and experiencing life in rural Kenya first hand. The organization is extremely well run. They support the local community and students through the school and water filter distribution. Many of the children they work with have recently left child marriages and have little formal education. Our daughter has already talked about returning to Kenya with Just One.
Just One Africa is an AMAZING organization that makes a tremendous difference in Kenya. As a donor, I know the money I give is being used wisely. The organization regularly shares photos and information via social media to keep us informed on projects. I, along with other donors, have also been given the opportunity to meet face-to-face with some of the Kenyan community leaders the organization works with and have heard directly from them about the work being done there.
In addition to their great work in Kenya, Just One Africa does amazing work in their local community. As a teacher, I sponsor my school's Just One club; I love interacting with the students and Amy Churchill as the students participate in life-changing work. JOA has helped to create these clubs at numerous schools in the area. Furthermore, Mrs. Churchill has been incredibly generous with her time and has come to share about her organization's clean water program with my social studies students for many years now. I am so grateful for this organization and how it helps make learning more meaningful for students.
Just One Africa does amazing work in Kenya and partners with local leaders in a way that leads to real change in communities. I have gone on several trips with them and can personally attest to their integrity and character both in Kenya and here in Ga. I love what they are doing and how they are changing the world for just one person at a time!
I've been connected to Just One Africa for five years and am very impressed with the passion demonstrated by the founders to bring safe, clean water to the Kenyan people. I've had opportunity to travel with them and see up front and personal their genuineness in serving those in need. It's an organization run by people of integrity!
I have found volunteering with Just One Africa to be an amazing life changing experience. I was able to see first hand, what it means that "it's more rewarding to give than to receive". We so easily take for granted here in the USA all the necessities that are at our fingertips on an around the clock basis. Clean water for cooking, hydration, bathing, and general cleaning is a special commodity in African villages and communities. What a unique joy it is to share books and supplies with the children that we brought from donations in the States. Supplying very simple flip-flops puts a sparkling smile on any child's face who has lived their life going barefoot. We were able to participate in a supporting a basic medical clinic with supplies in a rural village in conjunction with their government public health programs, as their is no health insurance available. It was wonderful getting to know teachers, health workers, church leaders, and community leaders who were so appreciative and wanted to know if we would visit again. I will hopefully be going back again and again to be a part of giving the less fortunate a "hand up" in their unique spot in Kenya. Thank you, Just One Africa for your heart and vision!!
Loving on people IS LIFE! Just One Africa is a place and people you can give to, serve with, and invest in that daily LOVE ON PEOPLE all around the world. Your life will be fuller and your heart enlarged by getting involved. Your dollars, your hour of time, your prayer, your letter to a child, your time spent on the ground in Kenya will change lives forever (including yours!) :) We make time for those who are important to us. Children, widows, and families are the heart of JOA!
I've had the wonderful privilege of seeing first hand the heart and hands behind JOA. This is a family that lives out their mission and are working to build relationships with others who have a heart to give, serve, and make their lives worth something more than just their own. I was able to be a part of a trip to Kenya with JOA to help distribute hundreds of water filters in very remote areas, provide school supplies and teacher development to schools, and spend time with children, women, and families in desperate life circumstances. My heart was broken for the hurt and need of the people I met and saw, but even more, my desire to make a difference and love on those that have seemingly been forgotten or those who are unseen was renewed. It can be easy to forget that so many live in despair and unthinkable circumstances when it's not in front of you on a consistent basis. It is easy to get in "the rut" of my daily schedule and not remember that millions of children are orphaned, starving, and without hope. Their are widows who have lost everything and wonder how to make it to another day. JOA is an amazing organization that MAKES A DIFFERENCE in the lives of people. It is tangible! It is hope! It is love!
Come be a part of making a difference in lives! You will not ever regret the decision to invest in another person's life! Their life will be touched with your love, and your heart will be filled as well!
Our family has been connected with JustOne for several years, and we continue to be impressed with their commitment to empowering local leaders in various communities in Kenya. By partnering with them, JustOne has been able to help reduce water-borne diseases, educate children, lift up widows, and protect vulnerable groups. It is simply amazing what they have done and continue to do, ‘Just One’ person at a time.
I always liked non-profits and supporting a cause, but once I met the founders of Just One and heard their passion for giving clean water to remote areas of Kenya where people are dying of water borne illnesses I not only put my money up but I offered my time to go on a trip and see it first hand. That one trip changed my life completely. I went from thinking I knew what I wanted to do, to completely changing my career path to advocate for needs in Kenya. My heart was transformed by the little lives I met at an orphanage there and I found myself and my family growing to hold these children in our hearts and prayers. Without Just One, our house would not be filled with pictures of Kenyans that we pray over daily and while we would have more money that we didn't donate and have more time we didn't volunteer, we would be empty of this new adventure that has changed the whole family. We've seen people's lives change from drinking clean water. We've seen the sick be healed by something we take for granted. We all have clean water in America, so our friends in Africa should too. Just One is changing that and we are honored to be a part of it.
Review from #MyGivingStory
The Churchills were kind enough to help us with our volunteer activity for work. He and his wife brought us handcrafted beads to string together to create bracelets and necklaces. The story behind how the beads were created by the families we are helping in Africa was amazing. Also, the presentation they put together to explain why their organization thrives when it comes to helping those in Africa was great as well.
I can say that this could be a yearly event for my team. Hands down, awesome work and an awesome cause.
