Just Harvest is an outspoken advocacy organization, which addresses poverty and food insecurity at the local, state, and federal level.
Staff and volunteers create opportunities for individuals to gain access to fresh foods, obtain food assistance (SNAP), and have their taxes prepared for free.
This organization is lean and focuses its funds to making a huge impact!
They accomplish this with the help of volunteers, savvy organization, and hard work.
Every dollar given to this organization will be well-spent toward helping alleviate and end hunger in Southwestern Pennsylvania.
Just Harvest is wonderful organization! They work hard to help so many in the community. Whether I am a volunteer or a attendee, I always enjoy my time at their events!
Just Harvest's strong advocacy and direct action that strives to protect members of the community from unfair and unjust policy is what makes Just Harvest so essential to the fight for equality and food justice. I would like to be a volunteer in 2015!
Just Harvest helped me obtain food stamps when I needed support, and I have always supported their strong advocacy for policies that prevent poverty and hunger. Together, we can make choices to end poverty and hunger.
“Hunger is political, together we can end it.” – Just Harvest plays a unique role in the fight to keep our social safety net from being torn open by discriminatory policies that endanger families and neighbors in our community. From standing up against food stamp funding cuts in DC, to improving access to farmer’s markets – Just Harvest has spent more than two decades helping people at every level from the national policy to the kitchen table. I volunteer on a board committee and I have twice been a client of Just Harvest’s programs helping folks navigate the Food Stamps system. -Gabe
Review from The Pittsburgh Foundation
I became involved with Just Harvest a few months ago, but I have found that the staff, volunteers, and board are all dedicated to the work of eradicating poverty and hunger in Western Pennsylvania. The people that comprise the Just Harvest family have proven effective at what they do through the growth of Fresh Access across the region and the success of their Tax clinic. I am very proud to say I am part of Just Harvest.
Just Harvest's staff and volunteers are amazing, committed individuals who are dedicated to making change.
I have been on the board for over twenty years. I have committed most of my adult life to organizations that are dedicated to changing structures that oppress and do not support the poor and marginalized. Just Harvest embraces this value very well. I am very proud to be apart of the work.
I have volunteered with Just Harvest in the past and have always found my time with them to be challenging and incredibly rewarding. In my current position within local government, I cannot recommend them enough. I am constantly telling the constituents I serve to go to Just Harvest for their SNAP/welfare advocacy, tax sites, and Fresh Access program, and the constituents always have rave reviews afterwards. This organization has been an incredible force for good in the Pittsburgh community and its dedicated staff, volunteers, and clients make it one of the best non-profit organizations I've had the pleasure of working with.
The entire Just Harvest works diligently in an effort to help those in need. I am proud to be associated with this outstanding organization.
I have served on other E boards and serving as an Board member at Just Harvest have by far exceeded my expatiations of this non-profit . I have found that not only the employees of Just Harvest but everyone from the volunteers at the Farmers Markets to the committee responsible for the Harvest Celebration Dinner have taken more than just a basic interest in Just Harvest. It has become part of who they are. All of the services that are offered at Just Harvest have planted a seed of Hope, to not only the people on the receiving end of that service but also to the person who has given the "Hand Up" to that person.
In my experience as a Board Member, I find the work and services that Just Harvest provides has a significant impact on the community. The recent success of the Fresh Access program that has made it possible for SNAP clients to access fresh produce is an example of the imaginative and pro-active philosophy of this client-centered agency. My involvement as a Board Member has been one of the most meaningful professional or volunteer endeavors. Thank you, staff and fellow Board Members.
Just Harvest provides very useful resources and works on systemic change as well as helping individuals on a case by case basis, all to reduce poverty. They are great!
Just Harvest is a great organization that helps all people at any time. I had the opportunity to play a key role in helping to get this great organization funding that helps people.
Volunteering and working with Just Harvest has truly opened my eyes to how much we can do to help others in need. The impact that Just Harvest has on individuals' lives, the community, and other organizations is truly impressive. I know that the people who work here have made a huge difference in the lives of so many, and can continue to do so with the community's support. Alleviating hunger and poverty is one of the most important things we can do to help the people in Pittsburgh, and Just Harvest does exactly that.
This is the best organization I have ever had the privilege to be involved with. The team here are constantly working to alleviate Pittsburgh's hunger pains with a level of involvement unmatched by others. They are also some of the most kind and welcoming people you will meet.
I became a Board Member of Just Harvest because it's a nonprofit that fights economic injustice issues in a holistic way. Just Harvest will help a person navigate the bewildering maze of getting food stamps, lobby the legislators on public policy and if needed, stage a protest when cuts to essential programs draw near. The clear vision that free income tax preparation is as important to eliminate poverty as access to a caseworker or the ability to go to a farmer's marketfwith food stamps for fresh produce is inspiring.

Just harvest works well with other community organizations to serve the well being of all. During my time volunteering I felt that my time made a an impact for all those in the community. Equity for all members of a community should be achieved and Just Harvest does a great job in advancing to do so.
Just Harvest is a necessity to the livelihoods of the people this program supports and provides a positive learning experience and a friendly atmosphere to people who care about what it supports. I look forward to continuing to learn about how to help people get the nourishing food they need in the state of PA.
Just Harvest works hard to educate our community of the benefits available to the people who need them.
I came to Just Harvest recently and am already impressed by the breadth and scope of their work. Just Harvest focuses on the root causes of hunger, with a firm commitment to eliminating the economic inequities that leave many without enough food to eat. They also address immediate needs by enrolling clients in the food stamp program on a daily basis. However, ending hunger is about more than simply ensuring that low-income people have access to fresh, healthy, affordable food--it is also about creating a society where all members are able to participate fully in their communities. The Fresh Access program, which allows food stamp shoppers to use their benefits at farmers' markets, is one way in which Just Harvest works to create such a society here in Pittsburgh.
