Causes: Women, Womens Service Clubs
Mission: The junior league of rochester is part of an international organization of women committed to voluntarism, to developing the potential of women, and to improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.
Programs: The organization is committed to helping all women achieve their potential, and improving the lives of women and children in our community. The jlr was very busy volunteering this year supporting many community partners. We partnered with sojourner house at pathstone and provided two dinner and discussions, maintained their gardens in the summer and then, cleaned up the garden and yard in the fall to prepare for winter. We also held a gift wrapping event and a holiday party for residents and families. The jlr supported willow domestic violence center's walk a mile in my shoes by providing volunteers to help with check-in. We turned the town teal and tied teal ribbons around pittsford canal to bring awareness to ovarian cancer month. Our biggest event this year was our 24 hour volunteer event. The jlr hosted its first "jl roc around the clock: 24 hour volunteer-a-thon. " the series of events started at 12 p. M. On april 28 and concluded on april 29 at 12 p. M. During the day, volunteers improved the grounds and garden area at sojourner house at pathstone, a transitional residence for homeless women and children; hosted a wellness event, which included yoga and meditation, for formally incarcerated women in a residency program run by spiritus christi prison outreach; procured approximately 164 supplies and stocked shelving for home start hope, a nonprofit that provides key household items for women and children transitioning from temporary housing or recovery programs to independent living; hosted a family movie night for formally homeless residents in housing with tempro development co. (tempro), and painted a private shelter residence for the residents at tempro. Overnight, volunteers sewed children's surgical caps for golisano children's hospital; baked food items to be distributed to open door mission's community food program including approximately 650 muffins and cookies; wrapped over 7,000 diapers for roc city bottoms, the area's only diaper bank, and made welcome baskets full of toiletries for newly admitted tempro residents. With a nod to its famous cookbooks, all the food items cooked utilized recipes from the jlr's cookbooks. This program is supported by contributions.

There were 72 active members, 128 sustainer members and 16 provisional members during the 2017-2018 fiscal year.
