Programs: Educational programs: the organization offers over 20 hands on programs that help students grades k-12 discover and apply entrepreneurship, work readiness and financial literacy concepts and skills. During 2016-2017 ja tampa bay provided programming to 49,106 elementary students, 10,319 middle school students and 9,192 high school students. The elementary school programs include six sequential themes for kindergarten through fifth-grade students and one capstone experience. Students learn the basic concepts of business and economics and how education is relevant to the workplace. The sequential activities build on studies from each preceding grade and prepare students for secondary school and lifelong learning. The middle grades programs build on concepts the students learned in junior achievement's elementary school program and help teens make difficult decisions about how to best prepare for their educational and professional future. The programs supplement standard social studies curricula and develop communication skills that are essential to success in the business world. As high school students begin to position themselves for their future, there are many unanswered questions about what lies ahead. Junior achievement's high school programs help students make informed, intelligent decisions about their future, and fosters skills that will be highly useful in the business world. With a range of different programs, junior achievement teaches about concepts relating to entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and work readiness. The volunteers bring real-life business experience and guidance into the classroom at a time that represents an essential crossroads for young people. Junior achievement served 87,774 k-12 students during the fiscal year ended june 30, 2017.
ja biztown: 19,157 tampa bay area 5th graders visited ja biztown during 2016-2017. Ja biztown is designed to encourage students to learn about the free enterprise system through active participation in a simulated community. With a variety of hands-on activities, students will better understand the relationship between what they learn in the classroom and their successful participation in the simulated economy. Ja biztown is an indoor center that contains a mini city with up to 23 public and private businesses. Each business within the center is sponsored by a real local business and displays the authentic logo and the actual marketplace appearance of the sponsor bringing the town to life for the students. Before visiting ja biztown, students complete a pre-visit curriculum program where they learn basic economic principles such as how to manage their personal bank account. They also participate in job interviews, learn about their new workplace and the job they will perform. Jobs range from retail sales professionals, accountants, business managers, medical professionals to tv and newpaper reporters. There is even a mayor!
