Programs: JA's learn to earn programs consist of in-classroom programs offered to students in grades kindergarten through 25 and experiential programs offered to students from 4th through 12th grades. In grades K-6, the program consists of seven sequential themes of five activity-based lessons each. JA-trained volunteers teach the lessons over five consecutive weeks in the classroom. Students learn: a) the roles individuals, business and government play in our society; b) career options and their required skills, c) money management skills, including: identifying needs versus wants, budgeting, balancing a checkbook and using credit wisely; (d) concepts such as supply and demand, profit and loss and the cost of money; (e) the steps involved in getting a job; and (f) the importance of staying in school. This program is designed to show students the relevance of education to the workplace as well as prepare them for secondary school and lifelong learning. Programs for grades 7 through 12 focus more intensely on our three pillars of student success - financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship. Our experiential programs are JA BizTown, JA Finance Park, JA Money in Motion and JA Inspire. JA BizTown, targeted to 4th - 6th graders, combines 19 classroom lessons with a hands-on simulation at JA's mini-town - JA BizTown - located in Tempe. Students operate the town for a day assuming roles as CEOs, CFOs, marketing staff, Mayor, etc as they learn to manage a business, their personal finances and learn what it takes to be a responsible citizen and consumer. JA Finance Park combines 19 classroom lessons with a simulation at JA's Finance Park facility in Tempe where students learn to make intelligent, life-long, personal financial decisions while developing a budget based on a family scenario. JA Money in Motion is directed to K-12 students in rural communities and consists of an on-site rotation through various booths to practice budgeting skills. JA Inspire is the premier virtual career exploration in Arizona, connecting middle and high school students with career resources and 100+ real Arizona employers.
