June's Senior Cat Rescue is providing a unique service to New Mexico communities. I never realized the need until our beloved cat, Ernest, reached his later years and we observed what aging does to a cat. We were fortunate to be able to love him, nurture him and embrace his limitations, giving him an environment he could thrive in with love and comfort in his final years. But sadly, not everyone can, or wants to -- this is when June's Senior Cat Rescue steps in. While many shelters exist to support kittens, June's Senior Cat Rescue is focused solely on senior cats, providing lifesaving care for senior cats who are often overlooked for adoption and euthanized before their time. JSCR also acts as a resource to pet owners and the community, educating and supporting to help seniors cats thrive. I joined the organization as a Board Member and have been overwhelmed with the kindness and love that JSCR is able to provide to cats to help them thrive in their final years. We hope that others will continue to share this passion and support the cause through volunteering and donations as we strive to reach and impact more senior cats in 2025.
June’s Senior Cat Rescue is a marvelous organization! So many people are true cat lovers, yet so few think about the plight of senior cats suddenly left on their own when their human can no longer care for them. These amazing felines have spent their lives with their humans, safe in their own homes, loved and cherished - then one day their human is taken away and their world and their security crumbles. They find themselves in a small, cold cage in a loud shelter, no one to love them, nothing that smells familiar. Some of them already have medical issues due to their age. They are almost never adopted. What a terrible way to end their lives.
Enter JSCR! As many as possible of these vulnerable, lovely, traumatized seniors are pulled and taken to a warm, caring environment. From there, June’s seeks to find them forever fosters or other options that will provide love, comfort, medical care, and dignity for the remainder of their lives.
I have the great privilege of being a long term foster to my beautiful Lily, a shy, bullied ~16 year old kitty whose human passed away. In the year she has been with my mother and me, Lily has learned to enjoy being petted, even coming to ask for affection when she wants it, has learned to come out and greet strangers, and is even learning to play (something she has never done)! She is now a happy, healthy kitty who enjoys having her own home with no competition, and has two well-trained human servants to supply her every need.
Thank you, June’s, for trusting us with Lily, our treasure!
I found June's Senior Cat Rescue when I moved to Albuquerque in the summer of 2023. I became involved quickly participating in garage sales and attending community events. I met other amazing volunteers who were passionate about helping senior cats. I decided to become more involved when I saw how the Executive Director supported our animal and human community. Janet, the ED, helps people keep their cats by providing medical care and cat food. I've been with June's over a year now and continue to be a integral part of their volunteer community. June's is growing and I'm glad to be a part of that growth!
Junes senior cat rescue is really great and helpful organization. I am proud be one of them and realize how they are taking care for each feline. They take every live seriously and be there for all the foster family. Thank you Janet! You guys are the best!

JSCR is a small non-profit serving the Albuquerque area. It rescues homeless, injured, and vulnerable senior cats in our community. Janet and her dedicated volunteers provide elder cats with shelter, medical care, and, most importantly, love. We're very lucky to have JSCR.
This rescue fills a vital need by providing love, care, and shelter for senior cats who have nowhere else to go. The founder, board members, and volunteers are clearly passionate about helping animals that often fall through the cracks. JSCR is truly a great nonprofit organization!
I support and I am very aware of the wonderful work done by this amazing woman. Many have no idea how much time, money and care goes into taking care of this sweet older cats.
A most compassionate group of people....helping a sector of the cat world that is often, and sadly overlooked. They can be senior cats who have lived full lives and possibly have lost their long time people-partner. Or may have been surrendered to a shelter because, suddenly there is no one to continue caring for them in the twilight of their life. Please consider supporting June's Senior Cat Rescue. With money, with food, with love in the shape of a foster or forever home. Thank you...the cats do!
June's Sr Cat Rescue is an amazing organization. They help those that really need help, the elderly kitties that get tossed in the shelter because their too old or have health issues. They even help kittens needing medical attention from hoarding situations. I loving refer to them as June's Geriatric and Pediatric Cat Rescue. Highly recommend this organization.
Junes senior cat Rescue has helped so many cats. I had to surrender my 14 yr old cat due to domestic violence. One day I was on Facebook and Junes senior cat rescue. Showed several senior cats needing homes at the NM humane center in Albuquerque. My sweet Lucy was posted!! I appreciated so much that they took the time to post her and others needing homes!! My Lucy was adopted and I felt a sense of relief, guilt, and sadness being lifted from me. Thank you Junes senior cat rescue. You are doing an amazing work. ❤️
Having adopted two senior kitties in 2018, I discovered how wonderful they are as companions. So often overlooked in shelters, it takes a loving group like this to find them new homes and caring people. I was happy to give them my birthday fund raiser and will continue to support them.
I have fostered many senior and hospice cats through June's Senior Cat Rescue. I love their mission and the work they do. Seniors are too often overlooked and forgotten in shelters, and I'm so glad this organization exists to help them. They go above and beyond to help cats in need.
I filled out an application to foster a cat and the President was SO Helpful with answering my questions. She spoke with me at length about my household & ended up recommending a cat she thought was a better fit than the one I called about. She came to check the house for suitability and was SO personable and gracious!
The cat fits in SO well at our house and is the sweetest, most adorable cat! He is exactly as she said he would be. He needs some nose drops & she helped teach me to do a “kitty burrito wrap” to help manage his wriggling (as she told me he did). Full disclosure, I am so impressed.
She REALLY cares about the cats & the people - that much is very evident! WONDERFUL to work with, WONDERFUL mission! To save often overlooked senior cats who still have so much love & life left!
June’s Senior Cat Rescue is a wonderful nonprofit helping a much overlooked community of senior cats. They rescue senior cats that might otherwise be euthanized. The volunteers help seniors with their medical needs and give them loving homes. They are a nonprofit worthy of donations and your help.
Junes senior cat rescue helped me get my Luna fixed and caught up on her shots. Without them I wouldn’t have been able to get her the help she needed.
June’s senior cat rescue has been a wonderful partner to CARE Rescue LA in Los Angeles. They have partnered with us to rescue senior cats all across the southwest and we continue to stay in touch with them. The Albuquerque community is so lucky to have them.
June’s senior cat rescue does such great work with not only senior cats but cats of all ages. The cats that they rescue are the cats that are often overlooked because of their age. The work that they do is so important to give seniors the care and love they so richly deserve. We donate to them through the Chewy website every month when we do our household order. This is truly a worthwhile nonprofit to be involved with!!!
Junes Senior Cat Rescue is a great nonprofit for the Albuquerque community! The volunteers there truly care about the cats they adopt and the adoption process as a whole. This rescue is doing amazing work!
Everyone that works at this rescue are angels. They truly love what they do and it shows! They will help you with all of your adoption needs.
This is by far the best rescue I have had the pleasure of dealing with. The heart of these volunteers is tremendous. Even when they cannot take an animal into rescue, they help by posting for others to see and act upon. Kudos to June's.
I met this wonderful non profit when they helped me with a desperate, sweet elderly kitty named Gracie. She was going to be put down at the shelter. When I called they immediately said they would take her. Today that baby is healthy and happy after medical care and much love from June’s Senior Cat Rescue. I can’t say enough good about them.
I adored a senior cat from this rescue and she is awesome. I
Prefer male cats and don’t really
Like orange cats. Guess what I got? An orange female cat! She was well cared for and her foster mother knew her history, had paper work and made sure she was going to the right home and that I was taking home the right cat. We love her. She is so playful and lovey.
June's Senior Cat Rescue takes in the really old cats that are dumped at shelters because their owners no longer want them. Many of their cats are "sanctuary" cats that will stay with them they transition to the other side. They also adopt out adoptable senior kitties to qualified homes. As you can imagine finding the right home for the seniors is crucial as this needs to be the last home. They also offer a Forever Foster Program that allows seniors to have a cat they want without the worry of vet bills. I love wheat they do to help the senior cats of NM.
