In 2019, I lost my husband to an aortic dissection so I've always felt a connection to John Ritter. Last February I learned that John's family; his sons Tyler and Jason and his wife Amy Yasbeck were going to be at a bowling fundraiser in Dallas, Texas. Since I am from Texas, I jumped at the chance to attend. Meeting his family was just a bonus.
I could not be happier that I went to this event. There were people there from different organizations as well as the John Ritter Foundation and everyone was absolutely wonderful. Jason was the sweetest person ever and when I was talking to him, I felt like I was talking to someone I'd known forever rather than a celebrity. He was warm and personable and made me feel so special. Amy was an absolute sweetheart. This was my second time meeting her and she was just as nice as she'd been the first meeting. I wasn't able to speak with Tyler much, except to say hello, but he was super nice as well. I was not fortunate enough to meet John Ritter, but it doesn't surprise me that his family is absolutely wonderful. I am hoping that I'll get a chance to come to another event. The ones I've seen so far have been mostly out of state and I was lucky that this one was held in my home state of Texas.
I have been corresponding with the foundation from time to time on Facebook and they told me about their Aorta Advocate program where they connected me with a wonderful woman named Courtney who had lost her husband. It was so helpful to speak to someone who understood in some way what I was going through and I'm very grateful to have that connection.
