Mission: Jimena's mission is to achieve universal recognition for the heritage and history of the 850,000 indigenous jewish refugees from the middle east and north africa. Our programs aim to ensure that the accurate history of mizrahi and sephardic jews is incorporated into mainstream jewish and middle eastern narratives, in order to create balance in attitudes, narratives and discourses about middle eastern refugees and the modern jewish experience.
Programs: Cultural outreach - jimena's cultural outreach programming invites people to experience first-hand, the vibrant traditions and customs of mizrahi and sephardi jews, while preserving the ancient heritage of jews from middle east and north africa.
oral history and digital experience project - the collection, preservation and distribution of high quality testimonies of former jewish refugees, who fled the middle east and north africa as a result of ethnic cleansing, anti-semitism and war.
speakers' bureau - jimena's speakers' bureau serves as the north american voice of jewish refugees from arab countries. The bureau is composed of specially selected and highly trained former refugees, experts and cultural ambassadors who have compelling personal stories and the knowledge to represent jews from arab countries.
