Jumping H Farm is a comprehensive, well rounded facility that combines knowledge, love, patience and dedication to OTTB's and students alike.
My daughter calls it her "happy place", even though going there can include hard work, dirt and sweat if you choose to volunteer! There are life lessons to be learned along with training that people receive when signing up to be a student at Jumping H. No matter your age, Nicole is patient and kind but stern as needed for safety of both the horse and student!
There is no luckier horse than one that lands at Jumping H! Nicole is knowledgeable and has been taking care of horses for years and knows when something is "not quite right". She knows when she can take care of the horse herself and when it needs a vets care.
Honestly as a Jumping H parent, I love the place too! We are family. We work together there, share together there and enjoy our time there! LOVE THIS FARM AND ITS FARM FAMILY!!!
So, when I say I have known Nicole for years, I mean that.....around 40 to be honest. But as lifelong friendships go, you tend to go your separate ways from time to time...wherever your life takes you. However, you remain in touch and share your stories, laughter and love. I live in Winston Salem, NC and when my daughter decided that she wanted to ride horses, there was no question that I would be driving back and forth to Jumping H. I knew that Nicole would be the only one that I would truly trust. Her knowledge is gained from YEARS of success and failure....true hands on experience. Nicole has held a passion and love for horses for as long as I can remember. That passion shows in her dedication to the horses care, training and rehoming AND in the need to share her knowledge of riding with everyone that wants to learn. I do mean EVERYONE :) There is such a wonderful mix of students (and horses) at the Jumping H and she makes all of them feel at home.
I called on Nic to help me rescue a couple of horses and by the end of the week they were at her farm...now they are happy and healthy and ready to be adopted. She is the true meaning of rescue, but not only of horses, you see. My daughter feels a sense of solace when at the farm. We go twice weekly and she looks forward to it each and every time. I truly believe it keeps her grounded and "teenage sane". She calls it her happy place...and if I am being honest, I enjoy it just as much! Much love and hope for Jumping H!!!!!
We LOVE Jumping H Farms and the whole barn family. We met Nicole when our daughter Chandler begged for a riding lesson as her birthday present. I contacted Nicole to set the date/time and expressed how I thought this would be a onetime adventure for Chandler. I can still hear Nicole’s laughter over the phone at my naivety and her forewarning prophecy: Horses are an addiction and to be prepared that Chandler would not stop at one ride.
Oh how Nicole prediction came true! We recently celebrated our year anniversary at Jumping H Farms. We have become a member of the barn family and what we have learned has been priceless! One day at school – a fellow classmate ridiculed Chandler about her weight. In telling Nicole the story at one of her riding lessons – Nicole challenged Chandler by working on new skills with her horse. Nicole built up Chandler’s self-esteem by helping to realize she was riding a 1200 lb horse and getting it to perform to what she was asking it to do. Chandler went back to school the next day with her head held high and beaming with her accomplishment from the night before!
I have witnessed the valuable experiences that Nicole offers at Jumping H Farms for several of her students. She provides them the opportunity to obtain additional ride time through performing chores at the barn such as cleaning wash tubs, mucking stalls, sweeping cross tie areas and feeding horses. These life lessons has also allowed Chandler the opportunity to learn all aspects of what it takes to care for horses and that it must occur every day regardless of the rain, heat, snow and freezing cold weather. Through this comradery, Chandler has become the little sister of the other students and it’s heartwarming to watch the protectiveness and praise they give to each other no matter what the task. Chandler is now learning to be a mentor to other new students as she shares the love of riding and taking care the Jumping H horses as well as her own. In November 2016, Nicole found the perfect fur baby for Chandler’s Christmas present and through Nicole’s tutelage, she continues to learn the responsibilities that comes with horse ownership.
With Nicole's love of horses and teaching - Chandler continues to grow in her confidence when she makes life decisions as well as her riding. During a horse show competition, Chandler was in a class where there were only 6 participants and the ribbons are only given to 5. Being a mother, this became my worse fear when Chandler was the only one that did not get a ribbon. Nicole in her wisdom reminded me how this happens in life and the lessons that are learned are what makes us better people. When Chandler exited the ring, it was evident that Chandler’s feelings had been hurt. Nicole took the time to allow Chandler the opportunity to problem solve what she felt happened then together they came up with solutions of how to change or what was needed to be worked on. Because of that teaching moment with Nicole, it motivated Chandler to put in the hours of hard work which has resulted in Chandler receiving several 1st place ribbons this year.
Another member of our family which has gained confidence through the patience and teaching of Nicole is our son Cayce. Cayce has a learning disability which makes it difficult for him to try new things without experiencing extreme anxiety. Nicole took the time to walk him through each step of the process of getting the horse from the pasture, grooming, tacking up and getting on the horse while answering his too numerous to count questions. Through the praise and patience that she provided to Cayce – by the end of his lesson – she had him sit trotting around the ring by himself. The grin on Cayce’s face radiated the true excitement of how he felt from his accomplishment.
The last family member which has benefited from Jumping H Farms would be myself. Nicole laughingly has commented that I had a latent horse gene that became activated by bringing Chandler to the barn. I started out by helping to perform barn chores with the “barn rats” because of the joy it brought me to be around them and the calmness it brought into my life. Hanging out provided the opportunity to learn about all aspects of caring for horses observe the lessons of riding of other students but most of all, I have gained the most remarkable friendships. I often would make comments to Chandler about her riding all the while thinking “just how hard can it be”. I quickly experienced humbleness when I placed my back side in a saddle and a respect Nicole’s ability to teach. Just like her younger students, Nicole has been patience in her teaching of us adult learners.
Nicole is such an amazing woman. She takes every moment to teach about injuries that OTTB horses experience and the treatments, how to feed rescue horses and what it takes to care of older horses. Even though she works a full time job she stays at the barn until all of us has untacked to wait to feed horses before she will go into her own home to eat dinner which some nights is after 9:30 or 10:00. I am really proud to be part of the Jumping H Farm feel honored to be part of Nicole’s barn family.
Because of health limitations, I am neither a rider nor horse owner but rather, became interested because of the life saving adoption program and have to say that the work being done at Jumping H Farm with the Re3 Adoption and Therapy program is phenomenal. Though I have only known Nicole for a short period, it is clear and easy to see the obvious love and dedication that she, as well as the Jumping H Farm volunteers, have for the horses under her care. The OTTB horses that come to her are quite possibly being saved from slaughter, often because of minor injuries or situations that no longer allow them to race. Initial "rehabilitation", a deceivingly simple word for what can equal days, weeks or months of care, maintenance, medical attention and much hard work, is taken very seriously. This unseen effort and the retraining of these once race horses and finding good homes is deserving of many blessings. It is quite a sight to see these beautiful, tall and elegant animals on the trails, in the fields, being shown in the ring and being loved on and knowing that their lives would have been much different if not for places like this. Impressive also is seeing the positive effect this program and this place, Jumping H Farm, has on the people associated with it. Young and old, volunteers and riders in training, there is attention given and a caring atmosphere that is refreshing. The therapy here seems to go beyond just the horses, rather then playing video games or hanging out at malls the youngsters (..and non-youngsters for that matter..) learn animal husbandry and seem well grounded. There is much good work being done here.
Nicole and her team at JHF cared so much about helping me to find my perfect OTTB baby to bring home. She spent nearly a day allowing me to groom and ride her rescues until I found the one that fit me perfectly. My Malibu and I are forever grateful for the amazing work that she does with the youth in her community and with the young horses that exit the track every year. Without her, the loss of my previous horse would have been unbearable and I would never have found my perfect horse. Since purchasing my horse, she has continued to check up on us and help to make our transition as easy as possible.
Our daughter, Breanna, has had a love of horses since she was little. She took lessons at several different barns over the years, but we were never truly happy with anyone until we met Nicole and Jumping H Farm. Nicole is absolutely amazing. From day one Breanna has absolutely loved learning and working with Nicole. She takes the time to get to know her students, and really connects with them. She knows just how to motivate each student to overcome their fears and misgivings to keep taking that next step forward. Breanna has a very busy schedule with band, dance, swim team, and softball. Even when our busy schedule takes us away from the barn, when we pull into the drive, it's like we've never left. We are blessed to be a part of the family at Jumping H Farm!
My granddaughter has been going to Jumping H Farm for over a year! She loves the people and the horses! Nicole is a wonderful trainer and teaches riders how to tack up their horse, as well as how to untack! She teaches how to care for the horses from start to finish! My granddaughter has always wanted to learn Jumping and Nicole is excellent with her teaching! This is a family oriented learning experience! So glad to have found this farm!
Jumping H Farm and Re3OTTB is a wonderful organization. I am forever grateful for the work Nicole and the entire crew do for this horses. They do everything they can to ensure each horse receives proper care and rehab in order to find them the perfect homes. They match the horses and owners beautifully and make sure the situation is right for both horse and owner. Truly a place with their hearts in the right place and wanting to give these amazing animals the best future possible. I have adopted two horses from this program and have been blown away with the truth that came with the horse. I will without doubt adopt from this farm in the future.
I have had nothing but wonderful experiences from jumping h farm ! Every time I go out they are always friendly, helpful , and it's a great family environment. I have adopted two ottbs from Re3, I have volunteered and boarded at this facility and they have been an absolute joy! I would recommend them to anyone searching for a place to ride, board , or adopt !
i would like to share my daughter Arys, 7years old, and my own story of Jumping H. A little over a year ago my daughter finally guilted me into searching for a place to ride a horse. Like so many little girls, horses had became Arys' obsession. I goggled "horse riding lessons in Elkin Nc" and Jumping H popped up. I will never forget My phone call with Nicole. I told her why I was calling, and though I'm sure she could tell in my voice I was very hesitant, I expressed it as well. Nicole said, why don't you bring her out, a lot of little girls think they want to ride a horse til they actually see just how big they are, she might change her mind, but she might not. We will start by teaching her a few things about the horse, and show her the work that goes into it also...... we will just see where it leads. Let's just say, my Arys didn't get scared, she didn't mind the work, and she fell in love even more with this obsession that became a passion that Nicole made a reality. Jumping H has became another home to us, as well as so many others! Those others has became our horse family. My daughter, yes loves to ride the horses, but she also loves going to feed the other horses at night with the other horse riders. I watch her world go simple and easy as that horse walks along, nothing matters to her but what the horse and she are doing at that time. Nicole has such a great way with not only Arys, and her 6-7 year old mind, but with the horses as well. I see so much good going on here at this barn. Not just with my child and all these beautiful horses that use to scare me so bad, but with so many others, all age ranges, all walks of life. Nicole's work at Jumping H thru this rehab program for these horses is a wonderful thing and I am so proud to say my family is a part of it. We love going to "the barn" and the way it feels to be part of it.
I was on the search for a young Thoroughbred when I stumbled across Jumping H Re3 on Facebook. I am so glad that I did because she was so helpful in finding a horse that would fit into our family. The horse was everything that he was advertised as and she made sure that we knew everything we needed to before bringing him home. Since bringing him home she has been very helpful in answering any questions that we have had. Overall this is a wonderful farm and program. I would highly recommend Nicole to anyone looking for a horse or looking to take lessons somewhere.
I'm so glad to have found Jumping H Farm. I began riding there just over a year ago as an adult beginner with zero prior experience with horses. I felt immediately welcomed by Nicole and the Jumping H family, and the barn has become a second home to me. Nicole is all-around awesome -- patient, tough but kind, GREAT with kids and teens, encouraging, funny. Nicole is hugely invested in the health and well-being of the horses in her care and she excels at matching the right horse with the right person/family.
Riding and spending time at Jumping H has become a huge part of my life. I even adopted one of Nicole's OTTBs just a few months ago. I never would have guessed a year ago that I'd be a horse owner. But I fell in love with riding and my horse, Kiss, and I don't think I would have discovered this new passion had I not discovered Jumping H Farm and the Re3 Adoption & Therapy program.
I returned to riding two years ago in Nicole's lesson program and was exposed to her work with rehabbing, retraining and rehoming of retired race horses (OTTBs). The dedication and love that she shows working with these horses, other horses from neglect and abuse cases and with her lesson pupils is inspiring. She generously gives of her knowledge and time to nurture, to heal and to educate her 4 legged and 2 legged charges. I have adopted one of the OTTBs and am overjoyed with my gelding. Nicole makes sure that the horses go to good homes and follows their progress and is always willing to give advice or help when and where needed. I would recommend JHF Re3 to anyone who is looking for a good horse to become a beloved friend and mount.
JHF is an amazing facility/Program. I had been on a search for another horse for a while when I ran across this place. After I spoke with Nicole the first time and told her what I wanted to do and what I'm looking for, she gave me all kinds of options. Sent me pictures and information on multiple horses that met my needs. I live a good distance away from her place so she let me know everything I needed to prior to comeing up and visiting the horses. I had finally picked out the horse i wanted. And she set me up with all the Information about him and a few weeks later I went and picked him up. To this day she is always there for me. If I need any help or info on riding,or dealing with an issue he might be giving me she is more than willing to pour her vast knowledge out to me to help me out. Overall this is an outstanding place and and outstanding person operating it.
I have known Nicole for many years. The hard work and dedication that she puts into these horses is immeasurable. I have seen and heard many success stories come from this farm. Nicole's horses have gone from racing to cross country, dressage and jumping. I have watched her horses and students at a local horse show and you can tell that Nicole instills teamwork and discipline into her group. No drama and the horses ALWAYS come first! This is a great farm to support!
Absolutely amazing people with the biggest heart for both horses and children. I'm so glad that our paths have crossed. My daughter has enjoyed every riding lesson and has learned so many things. The horses that are there are very well taken care of and loved. We always enjoy our time at this farm.
My 15 year old daughter has ridden and taken lessons with Nicole for many years. Nicole truly cares and loves not only the horses but her students. There is no DRAMA allowed at this farm. Everyone pitches in and does what needs to be done when needed. You will not find a more dedicated person than Nicole to her horses and students.
