Mission: Jewish National Fund (JNF) began in 1901 collecting coins in blue boxes to purchase land and return the Jewish people to their homeland. In over 107 years, JNF has evolved into a global environmental leader and become the central address for partnering with the land and people of Israel. JNF has planted 240 million trees; built over 1,000 parks and recreational areas; constructed security roads; educated students around the world about Israel; created new communities so that Jews from around the world would have a place to call home; discovered new means of growing plants under arid conditions, bringing green to the desert; and built over 200 reservoirs and water recycling centers, increasing Israel’s water supply by 10%. Today, JNF is supporting Israel’s newest generation of pioneers by bringing life to the Negev Desert, Israel’s last frontier.

Unparalleled in the Jewish philanthropic world, Jewish National Fund-USA’s strategic
vision has been and always will be, to ensure a strong, secure, and prosperous future for
the land and people of Israel. Everything we do -- every project, initiative, and campaign
we take on – is integral to our vision of building and connecting to our land. We plant trees,
build houses and parks, source water solutions, buy fire trucks, and improve the lives of
people with special needs. We boost tourism, support Aliyah, promote Zionist education
and engagement, build medical centers and trauma centers, fund agricultural and culinary
research, and run an American semester abroad high school in Israel.
We do all these things because each project, each program, each partnership, is consistent
with our strategic vision – population growth in the north and south, connecting the next
generation to Israel, infrastructure development, ecology, forestation, heritage preservation,
and more -- all for the land and people of Israel.

JNF provides so many services, not only in Israel, but also in the US. I work at a Day School in NYC and I have greatly benefited from the publications and speakers they provide. My kids had a lot of fun and learned a lot about Israel and the environment. Plus, the staff was always friendly and willing to help.

I have witnessed the transformational work of JNF both on the ground in Israel and in the hearts and minds of diaspora youth. JNF is mission -driven and takes its responsibility to be the caretakers of the land of Israel on behalf of the Jewish people. However, it is also concerned about Zionist and environmental education and training the next generation of supporters and builders of Israel.

As someone who was looking to make a meaningful impact for Israel, I did alot of research on all the organizations out there and chose JNF because of the incredibly critical projects they are involved in. I also checked all the charity navigator style websites to see their efficiency and was so satisfied with the results. They are the most effective non-profit and I really know where my money is going!

Since I was young I have been aware that JNF was involved with developing and preserving the land of Israel. I was aware of the tree planting and of JNF's development of infastructure, parks and water development. JNF became my family's major organization for donations. I have been personally taken by JNF to see one of the many new reservoirs and the surrounding farm land, which has now become orchard land due to the new water supply. I have seen a river, which had been polluted, which they cleaned up. The parks I have seen are outstanding. Helping to develop the Negev, building the indoor playground in Sderot, enabling people to donate ambulances, instituting horseback therapy for handicapped children and adults only adds to the importance of this organization. I beleive that JNF is an outstanding organization that deserves recognition for its ongoing work to help make Israel and the world a better place.

Jewish National Fund has cared for the land of Israel on behalf of Jewish people everywhere since 1901 – and has an extraordinary history that has helped, in no small measure, to ensure that Israel not merely survives but that it thrives as the dynamic society it is today. For the exceptionally skilled and dedicated professionals, lay leaders and volunteers – working for JNF is truly a “labor of love.” Together, with social responsibility to the land, the environment and the tenets of Judaism, JNF is resolute in its commitment to strengthening and securing Israel for generations to come. JNF has championed so tirelessly and effectively for the security and stability of Israel – and to ensure the sustainability of her physical infrastructure. Jewish National Fund was there in 1901, is here today in 2009, and will be here for generations to come due to its commitment to the land and people of Israel – now and forever. I can think of no other Jewish Organization more deserving than Jewish National Fund as the winner of the 2009 Jewish Choice Awards.

JNF has taken ledership in Israel on a number of important projects, water development and building the Negev are just two of many important contributions JNF has made to the State of Israel. When JNF sees a problem, it moves into action.
