Mission: Jfnnj is dedicated to preserving, fostering and securing a vibrant jewish community locally, in israel and around the world. We provide the guidance, vision and resources necessary to help those in need. We work collaboratively with donors, volunteers and other jewish organizations to ensure that all contributions will be distributed to achieve the maximum impact.
Programs: Community-based programs and support - jfnnj brings the community together by advocating for israel, supporting jewish institutions, and working to enrich jewish life. Grants and allocations are given to the jewish federations of north america, jewish community centers (jccs), and other 501(c)3 organizations that build jewish communities in northern new jersey, israel and abroad. Jfnnj's center for israel engagement and partnership 2gether programs connect northern new jersey to israel through educational, cultural and professional exchanges. The jewish community relations committee(jcrc) provides a forum for discussion and action on issues of concern with elected officials at all government levels. In 2017, jcrc hosted its first ican answer now teen conference to empower students with information thus allowing them to better navigate anti-israel sentiment that they may encounter in college. The kehillah cooperative is jfnnj's group purchasing initiative that lowers expenses for participating institutions, allowing day schools, synagogues, jccs, and nursing homes to spend less on overhead and more on mission.
social welfare - jfnnj works to assess and address the most pressing needs of our jewish community in northern new jersey, israel and around the world. Grants are provided to 501(c)3 organizations that provide social services, hunger relief, senior nutrition and senior transportation. Through its council for older adults program, federation funds five (5) congregate meal and kosher meals-on-wheels sites serving almost 70,000 meals to seniors. Federation also provides chaplaincy and pastoral care to local institutions.
jewish education and engagement - jfnnj is dedicated to promoting and enhancing jewish education and identity through its jewish education services program and grants to jewish day schools. Through the one happy camper program, stipends are provided to first-time campers at jewish overnight camps where they form lifelong connections to jewish culture and community. Allocations are also made to hillel, a program in local colleges that fosters jewish identity through social, educational, and volunteer activities. Jfnnj continues to support taglit-birthright israel and onward israel for young adults to immerse themselves in israeli culture. In partnership with the henry & marilyn taub foundation, jfnnj's synagogue leadership initiative works with synagogue leaders to transform synagogues, build communities and create a dynamic jewish future.
