We do it through focused programes that address food & hunger, shelter, counseling, people with disabilities and services to older adults. Through our work, JFS pursues its founding mandate: improving quality of life for people of all generations and walks of life, no matter what their ethnicity or religion. We approach our commitment to this goal with the highest level of responsibility, professionalism and integrity.
In 2008, JFS served 100,000 individuals in need.
Programs: Older adults: jewish family services of los angeles (jfsla) has an extensive network of services for 60,000 older adults and their families in los angeles. Our continuum of care includes: seven case management programs serving the most frail and needy older adults and targeting minority and underserved populations; exercise and nutrition programs; counseling, substance abuse, mental health services; and educational enrichment programs.
food and nutrition: through its food and nutrition programs, jfsla provides free groceries, nutritious hot congregate meals, home delivered meals to home-bound seniors and supportive services. Services are provided through three sova food pantries and at six senior and community centers throughout the city and valley.
shelter services: jfsla provides shelter for homeless families and battered women and their children. Emergency and transitional shelters meet families' needs while giving them the tools to achieve long-term independence. To help address the problem of domestic violence, we also provide a 24-hour hotline, individual and group counseling, case management, advocacy, education and consultation.

Jewish Family Service of Los Angeles and its Community Food Bank and Resource Program provide essential services to Greater Los Angeles’ residents in need.
The organization dispenses wide range of services, referrals and support, including food. JFS’ approach is comprehensive and focused on empowering recipients of its support so they can become productive while maintaining their dignity. Most charitable organizations are fueled by compassion, but there are extremely few other non-profit organizations that serve the community with as much grace as Jewish Family Service of Los Angeles and its Community Food Bank and Resource Program.
Jewish Family Service of Los Angeles is also a valuable member (and one of the leaders) of the larger community of Los Angeles area non-profit organizations. It leads by example, inspires and supports the work of other charities. Enlightened Helping Hand Foundation is honored to be associated with Jewish Family Service of Los Angeles that helps us carry out our mission of helping struggling single parents with children.
