Mission: Jewish Family and Children's Services (JFCS) of San Francisco, the Peninsula, Marin and Sonoma Counties reaches out to people of all ages, faiths, ethnic backgrounds and economic levels with comprehensive, integrated social services in the most effective, compassionate way possible.
Founded in 1850 by Gold Rush pioneers, JFCS exists to provide professional and volunteer services for the purposes of developing, restoring and maintaining the competency of families and individuals.
In addition to providing direct services, JFCS helps people identify and utilize their own skills, knowledge and resources to improve their lives.
As our community changes and evolves, so do the challenges in providing adequate care for those in need -- the frail, elderly, newcomers to the country, homeless mothers and their children, parents and at-risk children and teens.
To accomplish its goals, JFCS relies on thousands of acts of loving kindness -- visits to the ill and elderly, meal delivery, rides to the doctor, tutoring for youngsters -- performed by its more than 2,100 dedicated volunteers who give of themselves to create a more caring community.
To ensure that no one in need is turned away, most services are offered on a sliding scale, and 70% of clients receive full or partial subsidy thanks to the contributions of JFCS's growing family of donors.
Programs: Jewish Family and Children's Services (JFCS) of San Francisco, the Peninsula, Marin and Sonoma Counties translates values into actions that save lives.
The agency is an extended family for so many in our community -- seniors, children and families, individuals and couples, refugees and emigres, people with chronic diseases and/or disabilities, and many others.
A problem solving center for the entire community JFCS addresses the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the whole person and the entire family, from cradle to rocking chair.
Four inter-connected program divisions literally spell S-A-F-E:
SENIOR SERVICES --Homecare, care management, nutrition, counseling, bereavement and chaplaincy, Holocaust survivor services, hospice and palliative care, and more.
ADULT SERVICES -- Emergency food and shelter, affordable mental health counseling, domestic violence support, bereavement and healing, grants and loans, and more.
FAMILIES -- Parents Place Family Resource Center offering: clinical counseling; coaching by child-development experts; parent education workshops; a drop-in center; therapeutic play groups; a parenting resource library and childcare bulletin board; a mentoring program; adoption services through Adoption Connection; information and referral; and an early childhood mental health consultation program for day care centers.
EMIGRE SERVICES -- resettlement, mental health services, citizenship assistance, emergency support, youth programs, and more.
To ensure that services are easily accessible and truly responsive to local needs, JFCS maintains regional offices for the Peninsula (in Palo Alto, San Mateo and Foster City) for Marin County (in San Rafael) and for Sonoma County (in Santa Rosa), and each of these offices has specialized professional staff, volunteers, and community leadership.
