There was always someone available to answer questions and find helpful partners with experience---after experiencing first hand the great source that they are for so many I joined as a volunteer to help others
Nechama Cohen extremely giving of her time, very practical knowledge and wisdom, regarding diet, pumps, rabbanim, doctors, kupat cholim, etc. etc. etc. etc.
We would have never managed through my son's diagnosis of type 1 diabetes without Nechama Cohen and the JDA.At the time he was only 6&1/2 years old.Nechama was the first person we spoke to, & she held our hand through every step of that very difficult begining.Although things have gotten easier now, we always come to Nechama & the JDA with any questions or problems we may have.We know we will always be provided with the most professional & up to date information available.
The JDA literally saved my life. After being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, Nechama Cohen and her JDA held my hand walked me through the entire process of understanding T1, controlling T1, and living with this serious condition. She is always available for guidance, encouragement, and advice. I don't think there is anyone around who is as knowledgeable about diabetes as Nechama including my endocrinologist! This organization is an invaluable resource for the growing number of Jewish diabetics.
The Jewish Diabetes Association (JDA), through its outreach and education, provides an essential service to the population of Jewish people (and others) who are at risk for, or already have diabetes. The unique, beautiful and informative cookbook written by Nechama Cohen, founder of JDA, has especially added greatly to the health and well being of so many. I have personally benefitted from JDA as a recipient of education and support about diabetes for myself and my family.
A Bat Mitzva girl read an article about Jewish Diabetes Association and appoached her mother about doing her Bat Mitzva project helping JDA. That is how a team got together in November,2007 and made a magical evening; an auction and entertainment with magician David Blatt that raised money for JDA. JDA, and the help of many dedicated JDA members, along with friends and family, helped make this Bat Mitzva girls project a great success while helping the JDA help others.
