Mission: The jewish community relations council (jcrc) works within the jewish and broader communities in st. Louis to enhance cooperation with other religious, racial, ethnic and civic groups; foster a just, democratic and pluralistic society; and promote the security of israel and jews around the world. Guided by jewish values, the jcrc advocates, educates, collaborates and mobilizes action on issues important to the jewish community.
Programs: The domestic issues program conducts education and advocacy efforts, often in interfaith and intergroup coalitions on a variety of issues including hunger, homelessness, civil rights and black-jewish relations. The program also acts to support initiatives designed to strengthen american democracy, eliminate prejudice and discrimination, and protect the interests of the disadvantaged in society. An additional interest within the department is the preservation of the separation of church and state and insuring the municipal and the public school officials are sensitive to this issue.
the international program focuses on the situation of jews around the world with particular emphasis on analysis, interpretation and education on the changing events in israel and the middle east. The program also acts to support efforts strengthening the relationships between israel and the united states. International human rights is another area of focus.
the jewish fund for human needs works to fulfill the commandment of charity by awarding modest grants to small social services agencies helping those in need in the st. Louis region. The grants help provide direct services to those in need of food, housing, healthcare, education, employment & other essential human needs.
