the retired and senior volunteer program (rsvp) meets critical community needs with the help of older americans by linking the skills and experiences of the volunteers with identified community needs. The center has sponsored rsvp since 1973. The programs permit volunteers to maintain a connection to their community, increased self-esteem, as well as the recognition of their commitment to the community. Volunteers may organize neighborhood watch programs, tutor children and teenagers, renovate homes, teach english to immigrants, teach computer software applications to help people recover from natural disasters, serve as museum docents, and whatever else their skills and interest lead them to do to meet the needs of the community.
