VetCTAP was the only program, and I have been to a few, that gave me all the tools needed to be successful in restarting my career in a new environment. I loved the fact that you can learn from practicing professionals in HR, get your own mentor, and practice what you learn to get better. I felt much more confident sending out my resume, going to interviews and as a result quickly landed a job that I wanted and that matched my previous experience.
I have been a volunteer with VetCTAP for almost one year now. I look forward to every opportunity I get to volunteer with them. My contribution towards the organization goes towards helping with resume review and sitting on a human resources panel to answer employment questions of the program participants. I absolutely LOVE volunteering with VetCTAP. The immense amount of humility and gratitude you feel towards helping a veteran with something as simple as their resume or answering an employment question for them is amazing. Not only does it feel good to give back to those who gave so much, but you can see the difference you are making. Your efforts and the efforts of the organization are clear. I constantly receive positive feedback from veterans who have gone through the program. It is a pleasure, and an honor, to support this organization and its members. You can choose to give 1 hour or more. There is no massive time commitment and you can do what you can, whatever fits your schedule. It is convenient, effective and impactful. If you are a human resources professional looking for a way to give back to our veterans, you just found it.
For five years, from 2014 to 2019, I had the distinct privilege and pleasure of volunteering with the Veteran’s Career Transition Assistance Program (VetCTAP), as a career and resume coach and as a facilitator of one of the eight modules that make up VetCTAP’s four-week program. The quality and effectiveness of the program are simply excellent! For many (if not most) VetCTAP participants, transitioning from the structured environment of the military to the civilian corporate world is unnerving and intimidating, but the safe, supportive environment puts all participants at ease. The VetCTAP program is expertly designed to focus on a single aspect of being a 21st century job seeker during each three-hour class (two per week) and effectively offers practical, up-to-date, and useful tools in addition to instilling confidence, professional polish, and creating a job-ready resume in just four weeks! The quality of the materials, the engaging classroom instruction, and the vast expertise of the dedicated volunteer resume coaches during the one-hour resume labs make for a truly outstanding program. Volunteers are carefully vetted and selected based on their exceptional qualifications to ensure that veteran participants receive only the very best in their journey to a job in the corporate world. The tireless commitment by JBS Transition Experts in founding and building this successful program along with the genuine dedication of all their volunteers has made this program the best of the best, and it was truly an honor to be a part of it.
