I'm a 62 year old paraplegic. I've been disabled for the last 34 years. I drive a conversion van that is equipped for a paraplegic to drive. I've had two vans in my life the first one when I first got disabled and this one. So if you're trying to figure the math this one is 21 years old and it has a quarter of a million miles on it. The other one had two hundred and eighty-six thousand miles on it when I gave it away to someone who needed one to transport a disablled daughter So when they say all good things come back to you they really do.
Here's what I mean. The engine and the van are in great shape I keep it maintained and keep the oil changed . However the handicap equipment began to break down.
I got trapped in the van because the doors wouldn't open. I was at the front door of my doctor's office for an important appointment, and couldn't get out of my van to go inside. I was able to get the door looked at and fixed temporarily a little later. It was only a couple of days later at the rescheduled doctor's appointment. I had to call and cancel again saying I'm at your front door but I can't come in. The next day I was talking with a disabled friend of mine and just happened to ask him about a time that he had gotten some help when he was in a desperate situation. He told me about the jttownsend foundation. I asked if he thought that they might be able to help me. He said yes and gave me some phone numbers. I made the telephone call and I hate to ask for help but they made the telephone call an easy one And the people that I talked with were so nice. They didn't make me feel like I was worthless because I couldn't pay for the help that I needed. They were just willing to help! So we set up an assessment for the van. The worn-out equipment was reviewed and it was determined that it could be repaired rather than replaced. I thought that was great because until the problems that equipment had worked great. Quarter of a million miles great!
Well they put the recommendations before the board and the board approved the repairs for my van. They fix the van and you know what it works! Everything works perfectly! I have my Independence again.
If you're considering donating some money someplace the JT Townsend Foundation is a great place to give it. I wasn't supposed to say that but I will say it anyway. What was suggested that I say has to do with if you are disabled and you need help maintaining your Independence call the jttownsend foundation and let them get involved and help you. They really are a good group of folks you'll feel great about yourself and you'll feel great about them.
JT Townsend Foundation I love you guys I appreciate you. You saved my life!
I would like to tell everyone about my experience with JT foundation. The foundation truly cares about helping the disabled. Miss Carmen took a personal interest in me. She is so caring and her attention to details helped me with my grant. She asked me questions and offered suggestions. I am so grateful to this organization for helping me achieve a goal. I am now able to ride in marathons and accomplish other tasks. One of my goals is to ride in the MS marathon. It’s 150 miles round-trip. I could have never achieved this without the JT foundation. The Townsend foundation is an excellent source for making donations. It is through the help of others that we ( disabled ) can accomplish our goals. Thank you for giving to this foundation.
Sincerely Nick Navarro
Dear JT Townsend Foundation,
I would like to say thank you,for purchasing my scooter lift. I now have the freedom to enjoy outdoors with my wife and daughter. I go places, that I couldn’t go before. I can be more present husband and father. I am even more independent. You will never know how truly grateful I really am. I would like to give a special, thank you, to Ms. Carmen for her patience, and willingness to me.
This Foundation has helped my family tremendously. My son is 3 years old and cannot sit unassisted. His insurance would not cover the chair we needed. After finding out about the Foundation, I spoke With Mrs Carmen, and she was so nice and was willing to help my family out with seating devices for Cason. She still checks up on us every once in a while. I can’t thank them enough, God bless them!
The JT Townsend Foundation provided a Special Tomato Push Chair for my 4-year-old daughter, Anna. This stroller has made such a difference for our family! Anna depends on a gait trainer for mobility but is unable to walk long distances with it. Now that we have the Special Tomato, our family is more easily able to go on family outings. We have been to the the zoo, the science museum, and even Disney World with the stroller. It is more comfortable and practical for Anna than a wheelchair, but our insurance company would not cover it. Working with JTTF was very easy. My daughter's physical therapist reached out to Ms. Carmen and asked for the Special Tomato and JTTF provided it - it was as simple as that! Our family is so very thankful for the JT Townsend Foundation and for all they are doing for the disabled community in our area.
In the year 2016, this foundation helped me acquire something called a quad stick. It is basically something that helps me control my computer with my mouth as well as play games that I never would have been able to otherwise. I don't have the use of my hands, and the rest of my body doesn't work the way it's supposed to either. I reached out and asked for help and almost immediately received a reply. I just wanted to thank you all for helping me because having this device has changed my life for the better. It may seem like something simple, being able to use a computer and play games, but I can also talk to my friends. I can also watch movies or TV shows. I can talk to my soon to be fiancé. I can read e-books. These are all things that I would not have been able to do otherwise. So thank you for helping me get this device that gives me independence and allows me to have hobbies and normalcy in my life.
The JT Townsend Foundation is one of the greatest organizations I have ever come to know. They have helped me twice. The first time they helped me replace the ramp motor in my car. This was truly a blessing as my mother had to manually open the ramp with her hands multiple times a day as we went about our day. This was a very strenuous thing to do and we are so grateful for the foundation for helping us replace the motor and making getting in and out of the car easier. Fast forward to a few months later, I officially obtained my driver's license and began driving on my own when my door started acting up. It would get stuck on trying to open and oftentimes, it would take me about ten or fifteen minutes to get the door open so I could get out of the car. However, as a college student, this defect hindered the flow of my everyday life of going to and from classes, work, therapy, doctor appointments, and other activities. To get this issue fixed was not something I or my family could afford. I hesitated on reaching out to the foundation because I thought that since they had already helped me once, they were not going to help me again but that was far from the case. They were completely understanding and were more than willing to help cover the costs of getting my car fixed. I highly recommend this organization to anyone who is having trouble. They are some of the nicest people I have ever worked with. They are so kindhearted and go above and beyond to help others. To them, it is not about the money but rather helping make life easier for those in need. Thank you so much JT Townsend Foundation, I truly, from the bottom of my heart, appreciate everything you have done for me.
Just feeling overwhelmed with gratitude for the JT Townsend foundation who stepped up to provide a much needed medical stroller for our sweet girl Tori. We are so thankful. We will now get the opportunity to, as a family, engage in activities that we could not do prior. This will open a whole new world for us. I am beyond impressed with Ms. Carmen who has rallied the community to help very special people like Tori live their best life possible. Thank you so much!!! We Love you!!
Our beautiful 15-year-old daughter needed extra support while riding in the car because she would remove her should belt and undoubtedly a seizure was sure to happen. She was diagnosed special needs as an infant and our mission is to make life a wonderful and safe experience for her. After months of searching for a solution, we were directed to JT Townsend Foundation for assistance. WOW!!! What a wonderful experience, Ms. Carmen delivered the Churchhill Car Seat to our home and now riding in the car is a safe, fun experience for the entire family. Thank you for your service to our family and the community! My daughter and I instantly connected to Ms. Carmen's loving spirit. Words can not express our gratitude to Ms. Carmen and the JT Townsend Foundation. Thank you
I love every second of being a part of this amazing organization. They exude everything that is great about giving back and helping your community. I can't thank them enough for all they do!
We are a very active busy family. J T Townsend Foundation helped us get Madison the most amazing bike. I can't thank them enough for all their help.
I would like to commend the JT Foundation for their professional kindness and help in our time of need. My son has a brain injury and needs total care. We were having problems with his bed. One of his nurses suggested the foundation. I completed the information required and things begin to move immediately. Carmen worked with the merchant to ensure we got the best price available. It was an awesome experience working with her. I started out so afraid, unsure and she made the process comfortable. I’m so grateful for the help we received. Now my son has this awesome bed. He can sit up as if in a chair, it rotates and give him compressions for his lungs. Thank you again.
This non-profit is one of the biggest blessings to hundreds of families on the first coast. Not only do they provide physical equipment, they provide a group of people who will stop at nothing to provide emotional and spiritual support. This foundation takes the monetary burden off families who have disabled members, and allows them to enjoy a higher quality of life. The mission and people of this foundation have the people first mindset needed to touch lives, because their inspiration to serve comes from the blessings of those who first served them.
The JT Townsend graciously provided a car seat for our little Gracie. She is enjoying the new seat and we are very thankful for the support. Equipment for special needs is expensive and the extra help is truly appreciated. The Foundation team members who delivered the new car seat were wonderful. They were patient with us during the fitting process which is not always an easy task. The seat is really neat. The Townsend Foundation worked with our Therapist to get the perfect seat for Gracie's needs and we are extremely thankful. They made the process easy for getting it too. Thank you so much.
The JT Townsend Foundation recently provided an activity chair for one of my clients who suffered a traumatic brain injury at 14 months of age. This chair allows my client to eat dinner at the table with the rest of the family and participate in other family gatherings. I thank the JT Townsend Foundation for filling a great need in the community by providing much needed equipment not covered by insurance to improve the quality of life for individuals with disabilities. Carmen was a pleasure to work with throughout the streamlined process and was professional and responsive every step of the way. What a great organization!
I have had the pleasure of partnering with JT Townsend Foundation on more than one occasion to benefit deserving children and their families. The equipment JT Townsend has so generously provided for a number of my patients has improved their quality of life and allowed them to live with greater independence and dignity. Every interaction with the people at JTT has exceeded my expectations. They certainly are in it for the right reasons and live up to their mission statement:
The JTTF is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to better the lives of children and adults with disabilities on the First Coast by providing financial assistance, adaptive equipment, and research funding.
“Providing hope for champions– JT Townsend Foundation”
When an insurance company denies the means to allow children to live more independent lives with greater safety, JTTF has said YES!
Thank you JTTF!

I am a UNF graduate just like JT and I heard about the JT Townsend Foundation through an internet story I read. I support the Foundation and the remarkable things they do to help those in need. JT's story is truly inspiring and so is the work done by the JT Townsend Foundation.
To cry and laugh at the same time it's what our experience was like when our son received his specially made bike to help him strengthen his legs and be able to walk. He had the biggest smile and took his first ride as soon as it was off the truck. JT Townsend Foundation was there for us when we had no other options. They live to help children en like our son and our family. Please help support the JT Townsend foundation and keep JTs dream alive.
