I was referred to J T Townsend foundation by a therapist at Wolfson’s Rehabilitation. I had little faith that they would be able to help us, but I was reassured they were different. From the first conversation I had with Carmen at J T Townsend, I knew they were completely different. Carmen showed genuine interest in my son, Maddex and our situation. They didn’t immediately disqualify us because I had a ‘good’ job. Anyone with a child with special needs knows that even a good job and insurance only gets you so far. Maddex was born at 23 weeks and has cerebral palsy. He needs daily support and care to achieve his full potential. Our insurance covered the majority of the cost of his replacement wheelchair for school. However they would not cover the expense of a medical stroller. Maddex loves to be out and about but he is too big to carry very far or long. The wheelchair is great for the school bus but it’s bulky and heavy for weekend use and social visits. The J T Townsend foundation donated us a medical stroller for Maddex. This has been such a blessing and has given us our weekends back! Maddex loves his new wheels and we love the ease of bringing him on new adventures.
Hello, my name is Shena Simmons recently the J.T. Townsend Foundation blessed my son Khyri with a stroller he's 12 and his condition is CP. Just a little background me and Ms Carmen Townsend meet while shopping at Family Dollar's she saw me and my son and was drawn to him she was very sweet and pleasant and gave me her card and told me about the foundation. It was such a blessing I believe in my heart that God send her our way. This stroller is amazing compared to his wheel chair it's light weight and much more easy to transport around Khyri also seems very comfortable sitting in it. Ms Carmen & her team was amazing they delivered the stroller to his school and we took a lot of pictures this foundation is amazing and such a blessing Ms Carmen was always available to help with anything that I needed and she stayed in connect with me she so sweet and encouraging she has a heart of gold & she don't mind giving you a word or two from the good Lord up above with is always a blessing. Thanks to all who contributed to this mission this stroller has blessed our life.
Recently, the JT Townsend foundation assisted in providing new KAFO braces for Gage. The ones he had no longer fit and he was unable to use them for physical therapy at Brooks Rehabilitation Hospital. Bob McIver, director of the Neuro Recovery Center at Brooks, suggested he contact the Foundation. Gage was notified that he was approved for the new braces. He is beginning his junior year of college. Here is a picture of him wearing his new braces in his dorm at Southern Arkansas University. His braces fit, are lighter weight and more comfortable than the old ones. Gage has been spending summers in Jacksonville for 9 years. He is a regular at the Brooks NRC and loves playing wheelchair basketball with the Brooks Ballers. He hope to continue his studies with the goal of becoming an occupational therapist. “The JT Townsend Foundation took an interest in helping meet my needs. They generously provided funds toward the cost of having new KAFO’s made for me. What the Foundation does in memory of JT Townsend is a truly a wonderful example of how lives can be positively impacted and enhanced through the goodness and generosity of the Foundation.”
Thank you, thank you for the purchase of a Tricycle for our son William. He has Engelmann's disease and has balance difficulties. Yaz from Brooks Rehab connected us with Freedom Concepts and then we connected with JT Townsend. Our son now enjoys bike riding without the fear of falling and fatigue. Thank you Carmen and the Townsend staff for the Tricycle.
The JT Foundation was a big blessing to my family. My son received the best ride ever. He loves his new set of wheels(Stroller). I want to give a special thanks, to all the Staff and every one that took part in this wonderful gift. My son is able to be comfortable, safe, and secured at all times.. We Love it.. Blessings Mrs. Carmen
The JT Townsend Foundation is Absolutely Amazing! They were here for our son right on time. They have made our life so much easier, providing a Toilet system and a medical car seat for our son. Our process was really smooth. The staff has blown my family away with kindness. I thank God for each and Every one of them. Especially Mrs. Carmen!
Ms. Carmen was so nice and Heart warming. She was right on time. Me and my Family want to Thank Jt Townsend for the stroller provided for my son. It was really a Blessing I'm forever Thankful for the Program God Bless
JT foundation is absolutely fantastic. They were a answer to my prayers. They helped me get a wheelchair ramp/carrier for my daughters wheelchair. Im having health issues and was having a hard time loading and unloading her chair. Thanks to them taking her out is no longer a issue.
This foundation is amazing. They helped my daughter and get equipment she needed. Without them we would still be without. My family is forever great full. They were quick to reply and answer any questions we had. On top of this they were absolutely wonderful to my daughter when they met her. They provided a chair my daughter needed to help with therapies at home and also a stroller we needed to make it easier for Theresa to be more mobile. This warmed my heart so much. Thank you Ms. Carmen and team. Thank you so very much!
Working with the J T Townsend Foundation was easy and fast! After several failed attempts at getting a gait trainer from our insurance we were referred to the JT Townsend Foundation. The application process was simple and they were very fast at processing. My daughter received her gait trainer. What a great group of people.
In April, 2018, my son Rick, 49 and a single father raising his 16 year old daughter, had a massive heart attack and cardiac arrest at their home. His daughter called 911 and administered CPR to her dad until EMS arrived. The EMS people and the hospital staff at Baptist Medical Center South said that he would not have survived but for his daughter’s actions.
After spending two months at Baptist hospital, he was sent to Brooks Rehab. Hospital for nearly a month and then to my home to be cared for by his three daughters and me. I had requested an electric hospital bed with full side rails and the JT Townsend foundation furnished that for us.
He was given home therapy for quite a while then was referred out for out-patient therapy at Brooks. Getting him from the house to the car was very difficult because he cannot walk with out help from at least two people helping him. The steps at my front door presented us with an almost impossible task. If it weren’t for strangers passing by, seeing us struggle with him and running to help us, we would have fallen with him on several occasions.
For several months I have been trying to get help to get a wheel-chair ramp by contacting many sources but, because of so many people on waiting lists and the prohibitively high cost for private pay, my efforts have been unsuccessful. Then a neighbor suggested I contact the JT Townsend Foundation.
A couple of days after I submitted an on-line application for help to get a ramp I received a call from Carmen at the JT Townsend Foundation. She was so nice and understanding and kept in close contact with me as she stepped me through the process for receiving help. After a couple weeks she called and told me we were approved and the next week, the ramp was built.
This may not seem like a big deal to some people but it is a HUGE deal for us. This ramp has made the transportation of my son to and from his Drs appointments and therapy sessions so much easier and safer.
I will always remember the JT Townsend Foundation and all the people involved in the wonderful work they do. It will always be #1 on my personal list of charities to support with donations so the good work they do can continue to help many, many others.
I will always be grateful to Carmen and all involved with this wonderful organization. Thank you and God Bless!
Carmen and staff are extremely caring, helpful and compassionate. My daughter was recently diagnosed with a very serious neurodevelopmental condition (Rett syndrome) in which we needed multiple medical equipment that were not covered my my private insurance. We sought help from JT Townsend Foundation and our needs were quickly accomodated. Their application process was easy and painless and delivery was also painless. I did not realize that them giving us the stroller would mean just as much to them as us getting the stroller. You are not just a number to them and it came straight from their heart. We had the fortune of getting sponsored for a stroller and an adaptive activity chair. Thank you JT Townsend Foundation! We are very grateful for your love and compassion!
As a Pediatric Physical Therapist here in Jacksonville Florida, I would like to thank the JT Townsend Foundation for their amazing generosity and support they have provided for 2 of my clients. The equipment purchased by the foundation has made a significant impact on the child and their families. When insurance denies equipment and families are not able to afford the expense, the JT Townsend foundation have come forward to loving assist these families. Thank you for all you do for the community. You make a difference in the lives of those who truly need your support.
From the start to the arrival of the chair Ms. Carmen was caring, loving & super helpful with everything! We are so grateful for for the JT Townsend Foundation. The Abdullah family is greatful.
Thankyou so much your organization has helped us out tremendously my family would like to thank everyone involved God bless everyone
Awesome Awesome organization. They really blessed our family when we needed it most they chair they purchased for my son is amazing and it makes life a little easier for transport and we’re very greatful. The staff is amazing Mrs. Carmen in particular.Great organization hands down.
I am so grateful to the J T Townsend Foundation. One of our 3 children has special needs and needs a lot of extra time, attention, and therapies. At age 7, he had outgrown any kind of regular stroller but still needs one if we want to be able to go out as a family in large public spaces. I talked with Carmen at the Foundation and explained his need and she explained how I could apply for one and so quickly we had the miracle of a new special needs stroller being presented at my son's school. Wow! Carmen and this foundation is a huge blessing to our whole family. Thank you thank you thank you!
I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to JT Townsend Foundation for their generous contribution of a new Sleep Safe Bed. My 2-year-old son Michael is legally blind and have multiple disabilities. JT Townsend Foundation, really went the extra mile to help my little sunshine out. This Sleeps Safe bed has made a huge positive impact in both of our lives. My son sleeps better now, and this Sleep Safe Bed have padded safety rails and allows for proper positioning as he grows. I have slept better at night with no concerns of potential injury from falls or entrapment. The adjustable electric foundation allows my son head to be elevated which is needed during continuous feeding through his G-tube. Thank you!!
JT Townsend Foundation makes lives better, and may this foundation continue services for many years to come. There are not enough words to express my sincere gratefulness. Your compassion and generosity will remain with my family forever. JT Townsend Foundation is an angel sent from above to help others in need.
So, thank you again JT Townsend Foundation you have truly made a difference in our lives.

A few years ago if I was asked what the J T Townsend Foundation was I would have honestly answered that it was founded to help people in the
memory of Jerry T Townsend, a young high school football athlete that was left paralyzed after a spinal cord injury. I’ve come to learn that this
foundation is much more. It was founded by J T to help others that are facing life changing issues. J T not only fought through his own personal
handicaps allowing him to finish High School, but to go on and get a degree from UNF in Sports Management and then begin the process of
interviewing for employment all while developing and running this foundation. This man was and should always be considered a role model
for all people, giving unselfishly during the most trying of circumstances.
Moving forward to our personal involvement with his Foundation, my wife Jody and I sought help in getting a wheel chair for our neurological and
physically handicapped daughter (Abby). The cost for this chair was very expensive and the organizations that look at our personal set of circumstances
are few. We were advised to contact The JT Townsend Foundation and as a last resort Jody made contact with Carmen (who we later found to be
J T’s Mother). Carmen made the process seamless and eventually we were blessed with a new wheel chair for our daughter Abby.
A lot can be said for any foundation that helps people that need that little extra hand. I can’t begin to state or show the positive effect that this very
generous donation had on our entire family. Our daughter Abby is truly a gift from God and now she has a chariot that allows her to feel better about
Jody and I personally feel that if you are seeking a place to donate, please consider this foundation. I feel that you will find Carmen a true breath of fresh
air carrying on the mission statement that her son started. The loss of a child is indescribable, the testimony that this mother has carried on to honor her
son is emotional and moving, the results can only be advanced with the opening of peoples hearts and purses. We’re all in this life together, let’s measure
success by continuing the great work JT started and the Foundation continues under the leadership of his mother Carmen.
Thank you for your concern regarding this selfless foundation,
Jody and Reese Stewart

Aurora was born in November 2017 and we noticed something was up right away. At almost 5 months, Aurora was diagnosed with Craniosynostosis and had surgery less than 2 weeks later. Following the surgery, she has to wear a helmet for a year. Enters the social worker, who I mentioned the inability to pay for 1 helmet, let alone 3, and she directed me to JT Townsend Foundation. In less than 1 day, I received a phone call from Miss Carmen, who is absolutely wonderful and caring. They paid for the first helmet for miss Aurora, and did so in a timely manner without causing me any stress over the situation at hand. What a spectacular foundation. They go above and beyond to ensure that they take care of those who need it! Words cannot express my gratitude.
Now, enjoy some visuals of my darling, Aurora, with her first helmet! Thank you so much, again, Carmen and the JT Townsend for your hard work and dedication to your community.
