One of the greatest joys is to help people and that is what you experience when helping at the farm. The farm truly gives back to the community both with the people it helps feed and the folks that help run the farm. The farm is an example of hall people from walks of life come together to help there fellow humans.
My husband and I started volunteering at Felicia's Farm 3 years ago during our winter break from frozen Maine. We grow our own organic veggies in Maine, so Felicia's was like home from home. Sofia was very friendly and put us straight to work. My husband is a builder/carpenter and found lots to do, apart from digging and planting. I have had chickens for 30 years, so loved helping Luis with his large flock. There were always new people, both adults and school children coming by to visit and help, so never a dull moment. We hope to volunteer at Felicia's Farm for years to come.
I fell in love with farming because of Felicia's Farm. By volunteering there regularly, I learned to willingly dirty my hands up in soil. By getting to know the friendly and hardworking farmers Ashton and Sofia, I gained a greater appreciation for farmers I never had before. And by knowing that 100% of the food grown there is donated, I realized that the time put into growing food for the world is immensely valuable. Farming at Felicia's has always been so fulfilling for me!
