Mission: Ithaka harbors, inc. Is a not-for-profit organization that works with the global higher education community to advance and preserve knowledge and to improve teaching and learning through the use of digital technologies. Ithaka has launched some of the most transformative and widely used services in higher education: ithaka s+r, jstor, and portico. Recently ithaka has enhanced its mission through a strategic alliance with artstor, facilitating access to its service for researchers, teachers, and students worldwide.
Programs: Jstor is a not-for-profit digital library that provides access to more than 2,300 scholarly journals, 40,000 books, and millions of primary source objects and documents to people around the world. Jstor helps scholars, researchers, and students discover, use, and build upon this wide range of content through a dynamic online teaching, learning and research platform, while serving as a digital archive for publishers and libraries to ensure the content is preserved for future generations. In addition to the program service revenue of $71,657,746 reported above, ithaka received grant revenue of $47,000 allocable to jstor reported on part viii, line 1f.
portico is a not-for-profit digital preservation service for electronic journals, books, and other scholarly content that is supported by a global community of thousands of libraries and hundreds of academic publishers. Portico's mission is to ensure that these materials remain available to the scholarly community for the long term.
ithaka s&r is a not-for-profit service that provides research and strategic guidance to help the academic community navigate economic and technological change. Its principal areas of focus are educational transformation, and libraries and scholarly communication. In addition to the program service revenue of $1,411,327 reported above, ithaka received grant revenue of $480,300 allocable to ithaka s+r reported on part viii, line 1f.
