Mission: Discover,preserve and disseminate knowledge about the history of the village of irvington ny and to maintain and operate the irvington history center at the historic mcvickar house.
Programs: Maintained the mcvickar house as the site of the irvington history center which served as a venue for "a view from backstage," a celebration of 46 years of irvington high school plays produced by michael penta and his successor diane selenow featuring a display of photos, props, costumes and posters from the plays. The mcvickar house also served as the location for the monthly meetings of the historical society's board of trustees and was open to the public two days a week.
published three issues of the society's newsletter "the roost," which covered the activities of the society, including articles on hurricane sandy damage to the society's archives, village notables and local history.
sponsored talks by eric fonder, dewitt clinton professor of history, columbia, on "abraham lincoln and american slavery," tom vasti, vice president east bronx history forum, on anne hutchinson, kevin avery, associate curator at the metropolitan museum of art on the husdson river painters and patrick rafferty on sleepy hollow cemetary.
the society organized a photo contest of irvington scenes. The society sponsored the irvington high school that competed in the national history bee.
