Iron Gait Percherons Draft Horse Rescue is the best rescue and equine advocate facility I have ever been to and adopted from. Denise and her volunteers are tireless advocates for horses in need. Although Percherons are her primary focus, Denise assists any horse, large or small, but she doesn't limit herself. She has rescued dogs, cats, donkeys, ponies, peacocks, goats, and people. Her facility relies on donations and the hard work of volunteers and she gives back every cent with every creature she saves. Those creatures that don't find new homes are sanctuaries and live out their lives on the acres of her beautiful safe haven. I have watched this organization respond to countless calls for help, both in Georgia and in distant states. They drive hours to the best vet facilities for the horses that need the best and most progressive treatments. Denise and her volunteers wake early to work and stay up nights with the sick, injured, and pregnant. They are committed to educating the public. They hold auctions and benefits, attend parades and fairs, and make their facility open to any and all interested parties. Denise's adoption process is selective to ensure that each horse she places for adoption finds their perfect home. She and her volunteers know the personalities and needs of each of their horses and she draws on this and her experience to match adoptable horses to ideal adoptees. It is thanks to this process that I have two of the best horses I have ever owned. Denise has personally always made herself available to me for any question I have. She offers advice and help when I need it. She has gone above and beyond for me and my horses, providing me with any information about them and digging deeper to help me complete their histories. This is a rescue exceedingly worthy of praise, recommendation, and donations.
Denise and Eric are the most giving, loyal, caring people I know!! The Love they show to there animals, cant get any better!! These poor horses that have gone thru so much get to come to this rescue and live there life out happy and loved and cared for!!!
Great woman, has me busy all the time getting the rescue horses feet trimmed or shod, so many sweet big babies out there, iron gaits is heaven sent to these horses
Love this place and all the horses. The people are great too lol.
Iron gait Percherons Rescue most amazing place and heaven for horses. God bless Denise , her husband doing miracles just to see video how horses looks like when they got to Iron Gait and what they become, it doesn't look like the same horses, they look so beautiful and happy.
Iron gate percherons is a amazing place! Denise and her husband do so much for these horses. They will do anything and everything for these beatuiful creatures. I have had the pleasure of helping on the farm and spending time with these gentle creatures, it's such a amazing opportunity, and fun time.
Wonderful rescue with dedicated, hard working volunteers. Tireless, compassionate and caring.
Iron Gait Percheron Rescue is an amazing rescue that far exceeds the standards of other area rescues. No expense is spared to rehabilitate horses in need. Denise Polydor is very knowledgeable and has an amazing caring and giving heart. Denise and her staff work tirelessly to rehabilitate the horses and place them in loving homes. One of my favorite things about IGP is that no IGP horse is ever forgotten. Once adopted they are still monitored to insure they continue to be well cared for and loved.
I have volunteered at Irion Gait. While there I have learned so much from Denuse about horses that I did not know. The horses that are there are her life and she works very hard to provide for there benifit. Denise and Eric put all the horses and other animals needs ahead Of their own needs. They truly are one of a kind and I can't wait to get back out there and volunteer again.
I've enjoyed visiting Iron Gait for several years. It's always great to see the horses receive the love they deserve and Denise goes above and beyond for the horses in her care.
I have been enjoying my visits to Iron Gait for several years, the horses and other animals benefit from Denise and Eric's wonderful care and knowledge. They go above and beyond for all of the species on their farm. This is the kind of place that makes you proud to be associated with.
I love Iron Gait Rescue, they are the tops in their field and I appreciate all the hard work and money it takes to do things the right way. This Rescue is the real deal.
I've been volunteering at Iron Gait for 2 years. All the horses receive the best vet and farrier care. I have witnessed emaciated horses on arrival and in a couple of months look like a completely difference horse.
Denise does everything for these horses to make sure they can live out their lives n a happy loving environment.
I volunteer 2-3 days a week. It's very rewarding and I love getting to know the personalities of the horses.
Iron Gait Percherons, Inc. - Draft Horse Rescue is an outstanding facility serving the needs of not only Percheron draft horses, but all draft horse breeds, as well as other horses in need. Denise is passionate about her animals and her facility, and works tirelessly to ensure the comfort and safety of the horses. IGP is dedicated to securing permanent, qualified homes to adoptable horses, or providing sanctuary to those than cannot be re-homed. We cannot adequately express our admiration for this nonprofit and the integrity of all of the people involved. ~ Bob & Ellen Ferguson
We have two of their horses and could not have found a better rescue. They are truly the rescue of the gentle giants. The only horse rescue that we support.
Good group of folks who are working hard to improve the quality of life of the horses in their care.
I adopted a rescue from PA at the same time Iron Gate did, and she transported mine down with hers. The facility is wonderful, the horses are obviously happy, and I love seeing the things Iron Gate does with helping the kids around the horses. IGP also has quarterly open houses so people can come and see all the work.
Couldn't ask for a better place to be a horse! We have a member of our "family " from Iron Gait and He is my daughters best friend, but we know if anything ever happens he has a home back there. That is what sets them above to us, no matter what they are always there for the ones they save.
Absolutely best rescue ever!!! Caring and concern for the horses they help!!! Volunteers are awesome and truly care about the animals they are helping!!!!
Truly the best horse rescue I have ever volunteered for. They take the best care of all the animals living at the sanctuary. Great, hard working people! Thank you for what you do!
I am pleased to continue to see that the quality of care the horses at Iron Gait receive is nothing other than top notch. Although I am only able to visit periodically, I can see that each horse has its needs individually met and whether it is veterinarian care, farrier care, training or dietary needs the care is specific to each horse and the volunteers especially consider the horse's preferences. In a perfect world, every horse would have the opportunity to be cared for with such exceptional caring as the volunteers so readily give to each horse.
I am always amazed each time I visit the farm and the horses at Iron Gait Percherons. These folks are the real deal. They work incredibly hard, improvements are always being made, and the progress that these horses make in a short amount of time is incredible. This is tough work and this organization deserves your support. The volunteers are friendly, helpful, and informative. It is clear that the horses are the highest priority at Iron Gait Percherons. I will continue to support this worthy cause and highly encourage others to do so as well.
It is my belief that animal rescue is one of the most difficult jobs there is. The people at Iron Gait Percherons Rescue recognize that humans and animals behave much in the same way and everything they do is either an act of love or a cry for love. The Iron Gait Percherons Rescue team has the ability to put all of the necessary elements into play to achieve successful rescues for the community. I can only wish that all animal rescues were as successful as Iron Gait Percherons Rescue.
Iron Gait Percherons Rescue is approaching their fourth year anniversary and though I have only followed them for two years I am thankful that they are available to help horse owners in our community. Their job is difficult and time consuming but the care of the horses is always the first priority. The definition of rescue is to save (someone or something) from danger or harm. Iron Gait goes beyond that as they provide a safe and healthy environment for the horses to enjoy.
A friend of mine brought me up to iron gate and as soon as I saw all the beautiful horses and how wellthe were treated I fell in love with iron gate and hope to go back soon.
A wonderful organization that does great things for horses. Denise works very hard to make sure these horses get the care they deserve.
I volunteer at Iron Gait 2-3 times a week. Just driving up the drive I feel a calm as I know all these beautiful animals are getting the best care and have a new beginning. One horse that came to Iron Gait was severely abused. Thanks to Denise's patience and special training with kindness, she's slowly losing that fear of humans. Before we could not even touch her and now she will take treats from us. She has come a long way and she will continue to get love at Iron Gait.
Denise and Eric see that all the horses get the medical and farrier care on a regular basis.
How many people are willing to dedicate their every waking hour 365 days a year to care for these beautiful animals, not many.
Not matter what the weather conditions, Denise, Eric and volunteers see that the horses come first. Breaking ice, unthawing hoses and blanketing them all in the cold temperatures is a time consuming task, but it all gets done. During bad storms, Denise stays out in the barn to try to keep all calm.
If you live in the area or have a chance in your travels, please stop and visit Iron Gait so you can appreciate this wonderful rescue.
I just started volunteering at Iron Gait Percherons Rescue this year. This is a wonderful rescue facility and the care of the animals is the number one priority of Denise and all the volunteers. I've never seen anyone so dedicated to these animals as Denise, Eric and the volunteers.
Denise works relentlessly even if she's sick, injured or dealing with horrible weather conditions. Nothing slows Denise down!!! This is a 365 day a year job with no pay.
I also Volunteer at my local County Shelter and I've seen Denise take in many horses this facility picks up as strays or cruelty cases. She sees they receive all the Vet and Farrier care they need.
I love doing whatever needs to be done to provide for these beautiful animals at
Iron Gait Percherons Inc., is a very impressive rescue for Percheron horses in which many where neglected by their owners or destined for the slaughter house. I have seen the most incredible transformations both physically and emotionally. I am not affiliated in any way with this organization and have come as a friend to the Open Houses to be able to visit the home. I have seen the love, affection and devotion, that Denise, the owner has given to them. The volunteers are very carefully selected, and they offer a passion and dedication with their own personal time being spent void of selfishness and their own needs. I understand that it is very expensive just for the everyday expenses of food and medicine, not to mention the expense of many needing surgeries or professional emotional support, due to the neglect, and sometimes physical abuse.... these innocent creatures have endured. I honor Denise for her vision, love, and dedication to change their lives and become viable and emotionally stable horses.
I have been following this Rescue after I heard some horrible rumors about it. As I went to their website (igprescue.org) , I was impressed by their knowledge and dedication. When I watched them on Facebook (www.facebook.com/IronGaitPercherons) for several weeks , I seen nothing but love, understanding, compassion, dedication of this rescue group! Everything that I was told was very misleading as well as this organization is quite the opposite of what I was told. This makes me feel completely deceived by the group of people and rescues that told me what they did.
Iron Gait does more for their horses than any other rescue I have been to or followed. They are TRUE and what RESCUE is all about!
I plan on visiting this April 18th for the 4th Anniversary and see for myself what a wonderful organization this truly is while visually seeing the horses for myself.
It just goes to prove that you can not believe everything you hear, investigate the rumors first and discredit the speakers of the rumors.
God Bless you Iron Gait IGNORE those with forked tongues of jealousy. Keeping doing what you are doing ! Because you are doing it better than they could ever do!
Salutations my friends
This rescue is exemplary of what Horse Rescue is all about. I volunteer at Iron Gait on a regular basis. The horses are extremely well cared for medically and nutritionally but just as important they are loved and doted on. It is very sad that there are so many abused, neglected, and unwanted horses but the horses that find their way to Iron Gait are truly blessed. Even when a horse is adopted out to an approved adopter, IGP follows up regularly on the horse for the remainder of its life to insure it will always receive the care and love that it deserves. This doesn't always make IGP popular but it does insure the well being of the horses. I am so glad IGP doesn't rescue, rehabilitate, adopt and then forget about the horse!! Denise Polydor is a person of integrity, with years of experience, and a huge heart. Anyone who has been to Iron Gait couldnt help but LOVE the work that is done there so tirelessly.
i have been with iron gait almost from the very beginning.. they are top notch in all they do for the care of horses.. i have seen horses come in that shouldnt have survived but did under their care.. i have seen iron gait take in a whole herd of horses and help them back to good health.. i have seen horses come in afraid and starved and abused and saw how they all came back to vibrant health. if any one says anything differently they are out right lying.. she not only takes care of all the animals that come in there but also is there for anyone that needs her.. i have pictures which i wish i could show you the before an after which is amazing..
Iron Gait Percheron Rescue is an excellent rescue founded by Denise Polydor, an experienced horsewoman who works tirelessly to help horses... I have been on site often.. It is an fully equipped facility with 24 hour hands on attention.. The horses there are tenderly rehabilitated .. Many have been saved from starvation. Abuse and Slaughter.. ** in seeing several negative reviews, the wording is quite similar to the petty individuals who made prior fraudulent & slanderous claims which were proven false by all state inspections and many witnesses. . This rescue is superior and well worth your sponsorship and support.. Denise has personally helped us with 6 horses in need, and we are familiar with many of the suffering horses which she took into her care, and have followed the positive progress of many others..
I am confused as to why it is claimed there are over 30 sanctuary horses at this rescue, yet they post photos of the same 10 or 12 horses continuously and no photos or updates of the others. I am also confused at why this place will not post detailed vet records to satisfy questions from the donating public. I don't understand what the controversy would be. People would feel more involved and informed rather than suspicious.
Cindy and friends again please stop harassing IGP- Not sure why You are confused because All of our Sanctuary horses are posted periodically and Too ask for several years of vet records to be posted on Facebook for your group of harassers for your pleasure is ludicrous. Perhaps consider moving on to another cause and please quit harassing us under your numerous fake profiles.
Our young horse enthusiists have come out to IGP several times for the past year and a half as visiting volunteers. The facility is marvelously kept, the horses genuinely loved and cared for. A month ago we rehomed 3 of the 4 (labeled) throw away ponies found in Gilmer county earlier this yeary and rescued by IGP. (If you have a valid complaint, you should go to the source instead of stirring things up on line. No one is 100 percent perfect. But if there is a problem, be willing to help bring resolve to the problem, instead of making attempts to create an atmosphere for gossip and complaints).Keep up the great work Iron Gate, thanks for being there for us at Victory's Gait @ Sweet Dreams Farm. Ball Ground, GA
I have seen IGP on facebook and followed them for some time. one day while investigating a cruelty/starvation case involving 3 mares ( body scales of 0; 0.5; and 2) We contacted a couple of local rescues and non were able to assist. I then took a wild shot and called Deni even tho she is 7 hrs drive north of my location. We talked about what all was needed and I told her once Dept. of Agg. was finished I would call back.
Mare 1 had to be euthanize onsite, I assisted the Vet while trying to keep the tears from blurring my vision, and whispered sweet nothings in the poor girls ear, she passed quietly after one last nicker to her friends.
Papers were signed by owners, citations issued and transport cleared by Dept. of Agg.
So I called Deni back and gave her the news and she had everything lined up on her end.
After a 7 hr drive they arrived and mare 2 ( ShyAnne o.5) went into the trailer willingly, being a good girl while waiting aprox4 hours (being fed and watered etc) for her partner to make it into the trailer.
Once loaded, secured, and as comfortably as possible they departed. We were so worried about 2.
I received message from Deni that they made it home save and sound and they both were resting in their stalls.
I received regular updates on the girls and the youngest did fantastic and turned around in hardly no time under Denis care. Thanks to Deni's quick response and excellent care ShyAnne recovered from this quickly and is now a beautiful red roan loving live on the farm. I been in this field for 17 years and I must say this is one of the hardest cases I ever worked and it took a large emotional toll on me.
Thanks to Deni and Eric for responding so quickly and the fact that she kept sending updated pictures of the mares healing process, I must say she helped heal my soul in the process as well.
I can never say thank you enough and I will always stand up and testify on her behave!
My experience with Iron Gait Rescue just 4 months after meeting Denise and taking the tour . I was so impressed with all the work she was doing by herself taking care of these horses that had been abused, neglected, starved I signed up to be her first volunteer. I wanted so much to help her.She is so kind and loving to these horses. When she speaks to them they really understand her. They know they will be cared for ,well fed ,healed physically and emotionally. There is a connection between Denise and each horse,it's wonderful. I've witnessed the rescue grow , the number of wonderful volunteers she has now is so impressive. People are so willing to help with the horses wether it be their time, donations of money, feed, hay, medical items. I have also adopted 3 horses from the rescue because they needed a home and that gave more space for helping 3 more needing horses. My favorite thing to do is to spend time at the rescue. Of course that's after spending time with my horses. I think this is the best rescue I've ever . It has everything needed to make this the best option for many unwanted horses. Thank you Denise for all you do !
My first vivit was nice. I came to take pictures and to see the horses. All horses seemed to be in great health and taken care of. The owners were nice, talkative, and open. Had a great time!
Iron Gait is the best horse rescue I have seen. They are very knowledgeable and extremely thorough with all the horses they receive. I have seen starved and neglected horses with low body scores come through this program and make a complete recovery. I have seen sick horses get complete medical care...if there is a chance they can be saved, every effort is made. As well, they also know when every effort has been exhausted and when to draw the line to end suffering. Deni is compassionate about every horse that comes through her program and ensures they have the very best.
When we first visited Iron Gait Percheron Rescue, we were impressed by the enthusiasm and caring shown by the owners and the volunteers. Later , we had the good fortune to adopt a wonderful
horse from them. The facility has made several improvements, such as adding pasture shelters, etc., and has plans for even more, Denise, Eric, and the volunteers work ceaselessly to care for the horses and the facility. We love visiting there and seeing the love and caring evident in everyone's efforts.
I volunteer for our county animal shelter and learned of IGP because they took several of our rescued horses in to foster them for us as we had no space for them. It was almost a year long commitment and they cared for those starved, neglected horses better than anyone could ever imagine! Going there for a visit is like a mini vacation for me and I don't want to leave. To see the progress the horses make under the care of IGP is nothing shy of a miracle! I can never thank Denise and her volunteers enough!!
Let’s see, where do I start…First of all, I believe truth, innocence and honesty is always at the core of excellence. I have found that it’s easiest if spoken from the heart, so here goes... Every once in a while the universe puts all the right particles together and comes up with genuine and kind people. At “Iron Gait Percherons and Rescue” Denise and all her staff and volunteers stand as an example to everyone as they care for, protect, and give the best quality of life most of their animals have ever had and will ever know. I've seen the owner and staff at IGP continually work through all the trials and tribulations of caring for not just horses, but any and all animal in distress. No matter the circumstances they never shirk their duties or lose sight of why they quietly go about their business helping, healing and hopefully celebrating their recoveries and victories. You would think at times the astronomical odds against them would render them unable to continue, but as luck would have it they do and continue to give their animals a permanent loving home to live out their lives in happiness, warm, full and healthy at whatever cost . Even the people that made an error in judgment and were unable to care for their animals/pets are given respect, compassion, forgiveness and help to recover. This article alone shows just how much compassion this rescue has, something WE all should strive for and never forget. I write this because of what I see them do, and enjoy sharing their triumphs, happiness and sometimes as life happens, their sadness. I wish them longevity, prosperity and the kindness they show to all God’s creatures. They really do deserve the publicity, donations, grants and any other assistance required to continue growing and showing the world that humanity still has a few loving people who’s strength, love and happiness is found in the eyes of a horse.
Iron gait is a great place. My girlfriend took me here because she bought two horses from them both of which are amazing, full of character animals. We went here and fell in love with two more and I believe we are getting those. Good people, great organization. They really love what they do which shows.
My friend and I brought a neglected and starved horse to Iron Gait. We didn't know if the horse could even make the trip. Deni and Eric were waiting for us when we arrived. Sweet Marbles had cancer on his rear end and a terrible urinary infection. Marbles got to know what being loved felt like, what having food and WATER felt like and what being in a pasture felt like. I am so thankful that he held out long enough to feel all the wonderful things that Iron Gait could do for him. He passed away happy, full and free. Iron Gait is the
"5 Star Healing" for horses, no matter if it's physical or emotional healing that they require. Horses can find it all there at Iron Gait Rescue.
For a few years now, I have watched Iron Gait thrive as a rescue for abused and neglected draft horses. With many rescues already focused on the lighter horses (former racing TBs, Standardbreds, etc), the draft horses were dumped in kill pen to be slaughtered.
Iron Gait stepped up and in to help rescue, rehab, and if possible, rehome draft horses where they were able. In many cases, the horses arrived at IGP with high ringbone, chipped bones in their hooves, bad shoulders, COPD, and worse, emaciated.
I've watched, and donated, as they continually stepped up to the plate to say, "We can help!" and then they have.
Top notch rescue!
Iron Gait rescue is heaven for abused, neglected and unwanted
Horses. The horses come here after giving up hope on there former
Owners, thin with their heads hanging low depressed and totally broken
But then they began a whole new life with wonderful careing people
In just a short period they began to have faith in these ( new friends ). They
Began to recognize the volunteers as loving careing friends who will not forsake them!
They began to put on weight hold their head up with pride in their eyes again
They know they are loved and they love you back! I have seen the difference Iron Gait
Has made in the rescues and I thank God for all the hard work the long hours Denise and
All the people at this beautiful place do in a day!
You have given new life to the broken hearts and the broken spirit of the magnificent
Animal called A Horse!!! God will say JOB WELl DONE!!!
Thank you for reading
Iron Gait is an awesome place. They help the sick, the injured, the less fortunate, and the unwanted. We have adopted multiple horses from them and they have been great throughout the whole process. Denise does an awesome job helping these rescue horses with what they need. If they need weight, that's what they get. Medical attention, and the vet is out immediately. IGP has always gone above and beyond my expectations and for that, they deserve as much recognition as possible. I, for one, would like to thank IGP on behalf of those who can't speak, the horses. Thanks for a great job!!!
