When I was unemployed, we had taken in 2 teenage cousins and 2 of their cats when their parents moved to Texas so that they could finish out the last of their schooling here. One of the cats was a young male kitten, Lando. We didn’t have a lot of money, but Iowa Humane Alliance was able to give us a voucher to get him fixed for an amount we could afford, plus we decided to get him microchipped and vaccinated at the time. Thankfully, we did, as a little less than a year later, we made the mistake of saying that his cousin that had moved out could take Lando back. Little did we know, he was taken to a farm with a so called “friend.” A humane society in Boone found him wandering the streets, malnourished, a few weeks later, shortly after the Derecho. While we hadn’t activated the microchip, they were still able to track the microchip back to the Iowa Human Alliance, who then called me. Thanks to the Iowa Humane Alliance, we were able to get Lando back, where he’s been happy and healthy ever since! Thank you Iowa Humane Alliance! ❤️

IHA has been involved in the spay and neutering of many cats through our house. Three of our personal boys were neutered there, along with several mother cats and kittens we foster. I would highly recommend them to anyone in the area!!!

I recently adopted two kittens. One was a tiny stray living under an abandoned house and the other was being fostered by one of my friends. Both kittens needed to be spayed/neutered and to have their vaccinations.

Iowa Humane Alliance provides low cost services allowing me to adopt.

IHA has been such a huge blessing to the rescue I work with! Over the past few years they have fixed hundreds of bunnies for us, and have helped us out in more than a few urgent situations, even when their schedules have been super packed and they were short on staff. They have repeatedly demonstrated how much they care for the animals and people they serve, and will always have my recommendation and support for all they've done.

We utilized this agency for help with a rescue kitten to get his initial shots and neuter. It was really nice at the time to have an affordable way to get those initial services for him.

The Cedar Rapids metro area is so fortunate to have such a great organization providing spay/neuter services to our community. IHA supports the community in so many other ways like community outreach and educating the community on TNR and our community cats. We would be in a world of hurt without them.

I work with my shelter, fostering kittens, trapping community cats for TNR, and adopting the unadoptable cats (incontinent, medical or behavioral issues, bite history, house ferals, etc.) so IHA has neutered almost every cat in my home (21 currently) plus numerous fosters while in my care and some of my adopted cats that have passed on over the years. There has NEVER been any issue with any of the kitties having a bad outcome, and they do a thorough check for other issues that will need to be addressed. They have been such a huge bonus to the animal rescue efforts in Eastern Iowa. A friend of mine runs a county wide rescue, next county over, and she depends on IHA for a lot of her neuters, too. We just cannot imagine doing what we do, caring longterm for the animals, without IHA there supporting us in neutering!

We brought a feral momma cat in for TNR. Very friendly and pleasant staff. This is the place to go for care! $50 for spay, shots, and a dose of Revolution. They've become so popular that it's hard to get other feral cats in for TNR (no full-time vets). Thank you, IHA!!!

Since the inception of Iowa Humane Alliance, they have transformed Eastern Iowa’s ability to manage cat and dog population with their affordable and comprehensive spay and neuter services. They also offer wellness clinics where you can get yearly shots updated at a fraction of the cost at a traditional vet clinic, which has helped so many pets stay healthy and remain in homes as the owners are able to budget their pets needs. I have been going to IHA for many years now and have advocated for spay or neutering farm, acreage and community cats in Cedar County. To witness the transformation of a colony of cats infested with lice, worms, upper respiratory illness, abscesses and so many other ailments too numerous to mention, to a healthy population free of the aforementioned ailments within 3 months is amazing. I am able to do these things because the IHA staff works hard at getting appointments to everyone, provides quality services and at the end of the day, has satisfaction knowing they have made the world a better place for the animals and the people who care for and about them. I have worked with a few other low-cost clinics and am thankful for them as well, but if I have a choice of where I can take my animals, IHA will always be the best of the best in my opinion! Keep up the amazing work! I’m proud to partner with you in this endeavor.

When a mama kitty and her 5 kittens showed up on our property, I was compelled to care for them, but worried about their futures and how we could possibly neuter and vet all of them. Our local shelter was unable to take them in, but recommended we try contacting Iowa Humane Alliance and see if we could get an appointment. Over the course of a couple months, we've been able to get 5/6 cats spayed/neutered, as well as their shots and preventatives. We could have never afforded this at a regular veterinarian! IHA gave us advice on how to keep them warm and dry in the winter as well. They're a wonderful organization and I feel much gratitude that we have this place here in eastern Iowa.

I was trapping cats in a neighborhood and taking them to IHA to be spayed/neutered and vaccinated. The third cat I trapped turned out to be a neutered male with a microchip. IHA gave me instructions on how to find the owner thru the microchip. The family was so happy to have their cat back, who had been missing for awhile. Happy ending with the help of a great organization.

I have been using Iowa Humane Alliance (IHA) for years. They are my go to place for community cat services and I cannot imagine trying to TNR without them as a partner. They are cost effective, incredibly kind, and try very hard to accommodate the many time demands the local area places upon them.

They are a huge resource for this area and the demand is high for their services. We are so blessed that they are here.

I was referred to IHA (Iowa Humane Alliance) by my veterinarian after my dog started to have a seizure while being anesthetized for his neutering. I was told that IHA would know how to handle this since they do thousands of spays/neuters yearly. The vet reviewed the notes & said sure they could do it but it might be a little more cost since they would have to get a different med to put him under for the surgery. At the time, the extra cost wasn't a surprise for me, & I'd gladly pay for the special meds. What I didn't expect was the total low cost of everything! Roughly a third of the original office price! After talking with the staff that day, I learned about what a great service this org. does for the community & surrounding areas. No one is refused, payment is discussed, (not judged), & the price is agreed on even to the point of free if necessary. They do other things besides surgeries--community outreach programs for communities needing services--low cost housing complexes, lower income neighborhoods, mobile home parks, etc. Monthly (during spring, summer, & fall) there are low cost vaccine clinics for dogs or cats. Rabies (1 & 3 year) & distemper shots, also microchipping are available. These clinics are so needed, people come over 2hrs. early to get in line. There have been clinics with over 200 animals seen. People wait hours for their time with very little complaining. Strangers chat, socialize, talking about their pets, needs, etc. Staff (including the vets. give up their time off to provide this service & a multitude of volunteers really make it work!!! Doing everything from set up to tear down. Directing traffic to doing laundry to mopping floors after the clinic is done. IHA also works with area rescues, shelters, etc. whenever needed. They also have a very active TNR(Trap, Neuter, Release) program that is very needed here & is very successful.
My personal experience with IHA(besides using their services) is volunteer. While waiting at one of the vaccination clinics, I noticed a need for shots to be drawn up. As a retired nurse, I offered to help out. I couldn't at that time, but was told to call in during the week & talk with the volunteer coordinator. Since then, I have helped prepare the vaccines for the clinics as much as I can, thus letting the staff do the more technical things they're trained to do.
I wish I had a video of a clinic day--the people waiting for hours before starting, the line weaving around the parking lot (or inside the building if raining), the courteous, fun, welcoming attitude of staff, volunteers & "pawrents". That would show what a great nonprofit this is & how deserving it is to be on your Top-Rated List!!

We had a starving 6 month old kitty show up under our bird feeders so we fed her and she stayed around. We took her into IHA when they had a clinic and she was already pregnant. We are so grateful they were able to spay her, terminate the pregnancy and give her the shots she needed. They also later microchipped her for us and she is a happy, safe outdoor kitty!!

I’ve seen IHA grow from the birth of an idea. Heard hundreds of heartwarming stories of animals and their humans benefitting from excellent care. I’ve watched the numbers of spays and neuters rise every year, filling me with joy that populations of people are learning and helping keep populations of unhomed animals down. But visiting and witnessing the dance that is IHA’s daily practice was astounding to witness. The efficiency of every step in the process was thrilling. AND utmost in the entire procedure for every patient was attention to their comfort and well-being. I was delighted to some of my own animals got to receive good care at IHA through the years as well. Integrity of mission and practice is unmatched.

IHA taught me what the ear-tip was and because of their knowledgeable and helpful staff explaining the "how to's" and the generous donors I have TNVR'D several Colonies including mine. I would guess easily over 120 felines in the 3 Season's I've now been doing TNVR. This would not be possible without the donors.
I have also had my own personal cats and dog receive their sterilization surgeries, shots, revolution treatment and microchips at IHA. I chose IHA because the caring staff and affordable price.
They truly do care about the fur kids whether they are indoor, indoor/outdoor or Community cats. I definetly recommend them. And so appreciate the donors so I can continue to save lives with TNVR.

Iowa Humane Alliance has been an important part of our local animal welfare community ever since it opened. They provide affordable, very high quality spay/neuter services for a wide range of pet owners and those who care for community cats. They also provide microchipping for animals and other educational outreach programs. Many people using IHA's services would otherwise simply be unable to pay for veterinary care of any kind for their animals without the services offered by this remarkable and utterly unique Iowa organization.
