Itsan is an important and incredibly helpful organisation which raises awareness, and offers support to people recovering from 'eczema' caused by topical steroid creams. It saddens me to see people commenting that Itsan encourages torture. Because the truth is that, yes, recovery from steroid cream truly does feel like torture. Unfortunately, like with any drug addiction, the only way to recover is to cease use and ride out the hell you will be initially in for. I truly feel for the people who have tried to quit steroids to recover from their steroid induced eczema, only to find the process too physically and emotionally painful to continue. However, Itsan does not offer a way to torture yourself, it offers hope and it offers recovery! On the other side of that torture is freedom from your skin condition, comfort, and health. People are saying that Itsan is not helpful as it is steroid phobic. This steroid phobia is real, and it is born of a very real and consistent experience; many people who use steroid creams live a life of continuously worsening, burning, and itchy 'eczema'. When they quit steroid creams their drug addicted skin flares horrifically, yet once the steroids are out of their system they are cured! After years of worsening eczema and steroid use I quit and experienced a year of flares like nothing else, it was so hard to endure and yet I endured it. That was three years ago now, for the last 3 years I have lived 100% free of anything that resembles eczema!! Discovering steroid addiction was the best thing that ever happened to me! Itsan was my support system when I was in hell with no where else to go, there is a forum to vent and discuss the experience you are having, and it makes it all a little easier to bear. I would give Itsan 5 stars for raising awareness, and another 5 stars for the advice and support offered by the helpful, hopeful, and supportive community! Below I have posted the last 3 photos as an example of how I looked within days of quitting steroid creams (I was barely better than that before that). The first photo is me now, with the clear comfortable skin I have been enjoying for three years thanks to itsan.org!!!
This is the only organization of its kind helping those going through Topical Steroid Withdrawal. I'm so grateful for ITSAN and all it does to help sufferers and raise awareness!
Cannot say enough about the work this organization does to raise awareness and push research forward for this debilitating and preventable condition.
Never know and never heard TSW before we into this. We were life swimming in the ocean with no any support. thanks ITSAN, we learn a lot from it how to deal and expecting. life changing.
This nonprofit saved my son's skin and his life. I don't know what we would do without ITSAN. Thank you for being the voice of the patient.
ITSAN was the first resource I found that helped me realize that I had been suffering from steroid withdrawal. I took the information they provided to my doctor and was officially diagnosed last year. Their resources have been invaluable throughout this awful process, especially their online support group, medical and scientific research pages, and their ongoing advocacy for those suffering with steroid withdrawal. I am so thankful for this group and all the tireless work they are doing on behalf of our community.
ITSAN rescued me from steroid induced skin hell! Everyone working for them are heroes and continue to raise awareness throughout the world about Topical Steroid Withdrawal Syndrome, a very real and preventative condition. God bless ITSAN!
It was such an important resource for me when I was new to TSW. I felt listened, validated, and had a whole community waiting for me. Thank you for speaking for us and advocating for the unheard.
Now-days it is difficult to find the group people among whom one feels comfortable to express himself safely. ITSAN is a rare gem. It is coalition of people who are kind and supportive to each other in a search to ease or might even heal a very invasive and painful skin condition. In a short period of time I read so many genuine inspiring stories and found many helpful tips and suggestions. I belong to many different support groups. ITSAN by far one of the best .
I’m one of the unlucky ones to have developed TSW from 25 years of using topical and oral steroids. I’ve been to so many dermatologist for treatment and was constantly told that I (still) had eczema. Finally after posting about my condition on social media, someone referred me to ITSAN, and that was a major game changer. I finally realized that I was going through TSW and that I wasn’t alone. What a relief! ITSAN is a great community for us who suffer and need to vent or looking for a virtual hug. This condition is horrible so being able to talk about it with likeminded is so important for your mental health in the process.
I have been suffering from Topical Steroid Withdrawal Syndrome for over five years, and ITSAN has walked with me and has helped me understand and make sense of my suffering. They also advocate for patients and help spread the word to doctors that topical steroids are NOT safe and effective but in reality are DANGEROUS. Thank you ITSAN!

Thank God for ITSAN. This site has helped so many, including me, to finally figure out what doctors could not tell us: why our skin rashes were worsening and our lives unraveling. For many, steroids are toxic at levels that many doctors prescribe, and the ramifications are absolutely devastating. Thank God for a nonprofit that helps people suffering from steroid overuse figure out how to finally heal and helps to educate doctors about the dangers of long-term steroid use. I don’t know where I’d be without ITSAN!
Because of ITSAN ive found a lively community that became my daily place to connect with for support and a deeper connection with people that experience the same symptons as me. Literally a life savor.
They have educated me about TSW. As someone who was lost when starting my journey, ITSAN helped to navigate my experience
Thanks to ITSan I started TSW, found the answers that the dermatologists would not tell me and my skin healing so well. What an amazing organisation!!! Thank you.
They are very responsive and great in participating in their community. I feel less alone since finding ITSAN and am thankful everyday for them and hope awareness is spread more.
This really has been a great support network for me. There has been hardly any support from the NHS and doctors are clueless on TSW. Coming here has enabled me to get the information I need to help me through this chronic illness.
ITSAN has advocated for the TSW community like no other and validates us when medical professionals won’t. Without this organization I would have never discovered or been educated on what I am going through, and quite honestly without this information on the website might not be here anymore. I thank ITSAN for everything they have done and continue to do! Medically accurate information and a community can be found here!
This nonprofit is the only network that is seeking help to many people that suffers this extremely painful condition can last months even years of pure physical and mental torture and is totally preventable . Not a single person should suffer like this cutting their productive beautiful lives to live this inhumane condition . Thank you itsan .
I owe so much to Itsan and the support they give. I am so so so forever grateful I found them when doing some research about the painful, worsening rashes on my skin. Their helpful descriptions and links and symptoms lists all rang true for me and gave me the confidence to stop using steroids. My following symptoms were in line with their descriptions, and I have come out the other side with strong clear skin. The team are kind and thoughtful with their responses and the support group that they have set up on Facebook is an absolute lifeline during the horrendous withdrawal time.
If it wasn’t for ITSAN I would be at a complete loss. They have provided a safe, inclusive and collaborative space for sufferers. Pivotal to sharing information, resources, and connecting a community of support. We need this especially in light of how little recognition, research and genuine support there is out there for (T)SW. Thank you to ITSAN for SAVING so many lives.
ITSAN has been our support when we can't find support anywhere else. Without ITSAN we would be still searching these odd symptoms and being kept sick.
If it was not for ITSAN, I would never have understood what was happening to my 8 year old who was experiencing steroid-induced eczema/steroid withdrawal. The page "For Doctors" helped me communicate with my GP and dermatologist on the symptoms. The "Coping with TSW Syndrome" page was so helpful that I cannot imagine without having such information as none of our doctors could tell us what was installed for us.
This group was a lifesaver for me. I was a lifelong user of lots of different steroids (40+ years) I was at the end of my rope physically and mentally ( red all over, burning etc...) i went to a Dermatologist and he prescribed Clobetsol for my back. That really put me over the top and I got even worse. I found this group and then knew what really was going on for me. I didn't have severe eczema- I was in TSW already and then quit all my steroids cold turkey. This group is just the best group of understanding people. Thanks so, so much for everything!
ITSAN has been extremely helpful and supportive throughout our daughters TSW journey. I’ve found informational resources from their website that has helped me find supportive doctors, navigate discussions with current doctors, and stay informed with current strides in the medical community regarding the harm topical steroids can cause. They’re prompt and kind when replying to emails and have gone out of their way to provide our family with the utmost care and support.
Thanks for the great source of information that you are. You do a great job. Thanks to you I could put a name to the condition, I knew I wasn't alone.
My daughter went through Topical Steroid Withdrawal which is so horrible you can’t even imagine. ITSAN provided a wealth of information where every doctor we saw fell short. They were a place I could go to find real stories of recovery and also access academic research papers to give to our doctor and my daughter’s school. I also know they have been working tirelessly to bring awareness to the world about this condition to help prevent others from suffering. I know all of the people who work at ITSAN have a connection to Topical Steroid Withdrawal, either having gone through it themselves or cared for a child or close family member who has so I understand the desperation to prevent anyone else having to go through this and I truly appreciate all they have done towards this. As a mother of a child who has dealt with this condition I am so grateful there is a group of compassionate, smart, dedicated people to speak for us.
In all honesty, this company changed my life. After going though extreme suffering and doctors prescribing me stronger and stronger steroids that were no longer having affect, I had had enough and started hunting for answers. I count my lucky stars that I stumbled across ITSAN. Their website clearly explains what TSA/TSW is and has lots of helpful links for people wanting to learn more. I love that they have a whole section "for doctors" as so many are uneducated about TSW, and gives us an opportunity to point out what we're going through.
As well as having all of the information on the website I have had a personal email from one of the staff at ITSAN who went out of her way to give me advice and send me some relevant links. She showed me how much they all care for each individual and how much they want to help.
Last but not least the ITSAN facebook group is just the most wonderful group of supportive and caring people. It's invaluable for us all to have a space to connect and support each other along our journeys; have an ear if we need to vent, and update each other with progress. I couldn't be happier to have found ITSAN.
ITSAN was the best thing that has ever happened to me. My whole life I was told “you’re complicated” and prescribed stronger steroids. As a result, my body became addicted and when I ran out of cream, my skin reacted worse than I had ever seen. It wasn’t until I found ITSAN that I finally got my answers. The pain, emotions, and unknown timeline of TSW is nothing short of horrific. However, every splash of ooze, piles of dead skin, sleepless nights due to scratch fits, and the depletion of energy, collagen, and self esteem was beyond worth it. Once I started to heal, my skin grew stronger and has been the healthiest I’ve ever experienced in my 23 years of life. 21 years of topical steroid use, 33 months (almost 3 years) TSW. Thank you ITSAN and the community that built my new family. This organization has truly saved my life and I have met people around the world who spark true inspiration.
Thank you ITSAN for always advocating for the TSW community. ITSAN was a lifeline for us when my son went through TSW. Now they are advocating at the highest levels to educate individuals, families, doctors, and even the FDA. Thank you again for all that you have done and continue to do ITSAN. So many people's suffering will be shortened or avoided altogether because of your work and compassion.
Itsan helped so much with information.
When I found my 4 year old daughter is going through TSW, I found this page so helpful.
Founded similar stories and pictures to ours.
Details from tsw was so helpful for me.
This was my first line source of tsw.
Thank you very much for your work!
Itsan gave me answers when I had none. They are so special and needed in our community. Don’t know what I would’ve done without them.
ITSAN allowed me to confirm my suspicions I’d developed TSW and gave me the confidence to find a path towards healing. I’d be lost without them.
Saved my sons life! Will forever be grateful Used topical steroids for 4 yrs on him and he just kept getting worse. Took 28mns to completely heal from red skin syndrome but we did heal! 8 yrs later and my son uses nothing on his skin and it’s beautiful.

ITSAN saved mine and my son's lives. My hands stated blowing up like balloons with ooze and blisters from Appling TS Triamcinolone on my son for 4 years, directed by our pediatrician. After moving to another State and seeing a new Dr who warned me of the dangers I found ITSAN. My son would break out into hives evey time he flared and I didn't have his TS, would take him to his Dr and he would be put on prednisone and more Triamcinolone. I finally knew what was going on. He was addicted. Thankfully our new pediatrician listened and agreed to stop all steroids. It was hard the first year, I had to wrap him 3 times a day over his moisturizer and give him Lots of antihistamines with my horribly flared hands as well. We are now 28 mns Steroid Free and loving life again. We DO heal without steroids and I'm so thankful for ITSAN for supporting us through the hardest time of our lives. Keep spreading Truth!!!!
ITSAN was a life savior for me during my withdrawal from steroids. The information provided on their website is so informative and the ITSAN Facebook page helped me daily with my crazy, debilitating symptoms. Thank you ITSAN for being here for us!
ITSAN has so much information to offer you as you begin your TSW journey or if your in the middle of your journey. It helped me find so much information on the different stages my son would go though and what to expect. My son is 7 months TSW and I still find myself searching for more information on this website. I had a doctors appointment and printed documents to take with me to the visit in order to explain TSA and TSW. I’m so grateful for this organization!
Going in blindsided during my TSW journey, I was desperate to find others who are/had been going this TSW! I am so great full for ITSAN! It gave me HOPE AND FAITH!
Itsan provided free education materials online which helped me realise that my baby was going through Topical Steriod Withdrawal. After further research, I was able to find a local doctor in Australia and we ceased using topical steroids. My daughter is now recovered, and I thank you wholeheartedly. To think that it would have been something that would have lasted her whole life had I not realised and made the difficult decision to wean her off the medication that was hurting her

Lorri and her Angel's were a blessing you have no clue. I was very very stressed about feeding my girls I'm in a rural area we have nothing here. She and her Angel's blessed me with food and house hold essentials for once it was nice waking up to make breakfast for my girls. Forever in my heart I am grateful they themselves will be blessed
ITSAN is doing the impossible and advocating for the most deserving community of patients suffering from an unimaginable disease. Please consider donating today!
They're doing what they can to prevent a preventable illness! As an unfortunate long time topical steroid user, ITSAN's website, facebook communities, and videos have been extremely helpful in learning about TSW. I've been trying to find information on my why my skin, food sensitivities and allergies have been getting increasingly worse. I knew there was an underlying reason and doctors (even specialists - I've seen many!) have always been dismissive. Finding ITSAN has answered a lot of the questions I had and alot of questions I didn't know I should have had as well. I still continue to learn from them and their facebook community. Overall, it's a great non profit that really is trying to help people and create awareness.
I honestly can't thank ITSAN enough for helping me get to the bottom of my skin problems. I had seen many doctors and dermatologists who were unable to help (infact they made it worse). I wish everyone knew about the dangers of steroids- than goodness for ITSAN!
I have been going through TSW approx 5 years . I found this organization right around this time. If it wasn’t for them I would have had no idea what was going on with me. They keep me informed of all the latest news - with lectures , videos, member stories / and general information and tips on what to expect and the support needed going through this horrific condition...Sandy Weinberg

If it were not for this Support group I would have continued using steroids and never would get better. ITSAN has made me aware of what myself and others have gone through. People need to be aware of the dangers of steroids. This non profit agency needs to be recognized and hopefully will help others along the way going through TSW.
Finding this amazing organization literally saved my life! I’m so incredibly grateful for these wonderful people who work so hard to prevent this preventable condition from continuing to happen!
They are very good support group . I am thankful for this nonprofit who helped me survive through the darkest hour of at TSW
Awesome resource for people and families with members suffering from a reaction to topical steroids. I have a nephew who suffered with this for years, and ITSAN helped orient his family and turn things around. He's doing much better now.
ITSAN has truly saved my son's skin, as well as his health. Without ITSAN providing scholarly, peer reviewed reasearch, as well as member to member tips and encouragement, my son may not be well to this day. Nothing we did helped him or restored his health, until we learned about Topical Steroid Withdrawal Syndrome. It was only after going through horrendous withdrawals that his growth delay turned around, and his heart murmur (along with thickened heart wall and enlarged heart) resolved. I credit the tireless volunteers with putting this condition on the map. Thank you ITSAN.
This organization saved my daughter from on-going immense suffering—something umpteen doctors couldn’t do. My daughter is living life to the fullest now, no longer prisoner in her own skin. Forever grateful for their dedication to helping others and raising awareness about Red Skin Syndrome caused by topical steroids. Their website is informative and support groups invaluable— a true life saver. Thank you!
Almost 6yrs ago my skin was red, burning, I felt like and looked as if I'd been dipped in acid, my skin oozed , I was bone deep itchy 24/7 and my skin came off everywhere.
These were symptoms that lead me to Itsan and finally understanding that I had Red skin Syndrome/Topical Steroid Withdrawal, a very misunderstood condition caused by topical steroid use.
Itsan has been my lifeline while living with this condition. It is an amazing organisation, that's done so much in providing support to those suffering but also to furthering the education of RSS/TSW with the public, the medical fraternity and with government through advocacy, webinars, lobbying and sheer determination. Their website holds a wealth of information. Thank you Itsan for being such a great support to me and so many others
ITSAN saves my sons life and skin! We would have been lost with out them! Thank you ITSAN!

Itsan saved my son's life. My son klines skin was terrible on topical steroids..he had a full Body rash and the doctors kept upping and upping his steroids use. They were no longer working and burned his skin terribly. Without itsan we would have never known about red skin syndrome, we would have never had the support that they have provided to get us through this terrible syndrome. Itsan and the other sufferers and caregivers have become not only our support but also our family....and our "family" lives all around the world! Without itsan, I truely believe my son would have had a life time of extremely terrible full body eczema. I can not thank itsan enough for all they do, spreading the word of red skin syndrome and all the support they offer not only the sufferers but the caregivers too. Amazing non profit!!!!! If I could give them an infinite amount of stars I would!! Thank you itsan and kelly palace with all of my heart! Here is my son kline's journey http://klinestopicalsteroidhell.blogspot.com/

This is my grandson Oliver's story. He was diagnosed with severe atopic eczema at the age of one month. We were told to use over the counter hydrocodone on the red spots. We did and they would return so the doctor prescribed triamcinolone betamethosone and protopic. These potent drugs were used for 7 years until I learned the truth by googling Red, Skin and Oozing which led me to itsan.org. Thank God literally. If it weren't for Itsan we would still be living a nightmare. I am ever so grateful for this non profit. It was an answer to my prayers. Oliver was hospitalized many times for his skin. He had chronic staph and severe sinus infections. He started TSW in 2017 at the age of 7. He is 10 now and still having some skin flares but nothing like before. Since withdrawing off the steroids he has been healthy and not been on antibiotics! He is in school, thriving and living life to the fullest! Thank you itsan for all your tireless efforts. Without you we would still be in the trenches fighting this war without ammunition.
God Bless, Donna. (Nanna)
For many years my son's eczema was out of control. We had gone to many doctors and even National Jewish Hospital in Denver with no help at all. In September 2014, I was given a website off an Amazon review for hemp oil (anything to help his skin). I sat down one night and looked up ITSAN and knew immediately that my son had every sign and symptom of RSS. We then started his long 5 year journey of TSW (9/12/19). Over the last 5 years I can not thank ITSAN and everyone in the groups enough. When I was at my lowest points with TSW and watching my son go through so much pain, I was comforted by other parents who had gone before us and also those TSW'ers who were also suffering. Even though my son is 95% healed now, I still stay involved as much as I can to help those just starting this awful journey.

After watching my grandson being tortured with unbearable itching, my daughter found ITSAN and embarked on a course of action that cured him. It was a godsend!
SO, SO, SO grateful for the information that ITSAN provides! There are next to no doctors currently informing patients about the possibility of becoming dependent on topical steroid creams leading to a harrowing withdrawal and iatrogenic condition. After using these creams for over 20 years for my mild eczema, I started to develop a wide array of allergies. Discovering the correlation with long term topical steroid use, I weaned myself off of them - little did I know what was to ensue. I was bed-ridden for 1 1/2 years, lost my hair, developed a cataract, had horrible itching burning skin for years afterward. I am now doing amazing - have my life back and am just dealing with a few itchy spots on my knuckles and back of neck, which I believe will eventually heal as well. ITSAN was such a support through the worst of it - offering hope and guidance when no one else was.
ITSAN saved my life!! I would've never known what TSW was or how to cope with the healing process if it wasnt for the community and support of ITSAN. I'm so proud of the awareness the organization works for and how many people are being served because if it's good work! I am so happy to now serve as a board member and continue to foster our coordinated efforts!
ITSAN has been a lifeline for me and I could never thank this wonderful organization enough for everything it has done for me and all the TSW sufferers out there. The intention behind the foundation of ITSAN are completely pure and genuine and it’s reflected in everything they do.

The only reason that so many people become aware of exactly what has gone wrong with their skin after having used topical steroids, is ITSAN. This is an iatrogenic skin condition that is surprisingly devastating and semi-permanent. Many people are home-bound due to immobility and oozing skin - for months/ years at a time. Yet doctors do not acknowledge this condition - ITSAN is the single, unifying factor that supports patients, establishes ties to the medical community, and drives for research. A top notch organization.
Thank you ITSAN! FIVE STARS! The truth is, any negative reviews are not from anyone who ever was or ever will be affiliated with ITSAN. Please do not take the one star reviews seriously. They are selling a product that contains steroids and antibiotics that kills "staph" on the skin and supposedly "cures" eczema. Our community can not use steroids and were damaged by steroids. Because we can not use products with steroids, we can not use it, and we do not recommend using this product to our community. Because of this, proponents of the steroid/antibiotic mix comes in, writes multiple 1 star reviews, and has everyone they know click "found this review helpful." You can see most the of 1 star reviews have at least 14-17 "found this helpful." That should be a tip off that it's a fake. The 5 star reviews are legitimate and just placed by an individual --not a group. The 5 star reviews may have a few "likes", but they weren't written as a group with an agenda or axe to grind. ITSAN saved my child's life. It is run by the best humans on earth. It is unfortunate the type of trolling they have experienced by grown adults.
Review from Guidestar
ITSAN is provides information and support that is other wise unavailable or goes against the grain. They are not an organization bought and paid for by big Pharma. They are not an organization with a doctor wanting everyone's money. ITSAN is run by volunteers. And it is absurd to see people say their eczema was cured because they had a staph infection. Most people who come to ITSAN have tried EVERYTHING, including antibiotics for a staph infection!
ITSAN saved my wife's skin and they are a great organization. Do your own research!
This is an amazing organization that saved my skin. After years of full body eczema, and escalating use of topical steroids, I am now clear of eczema for the first time in my life. And medication free. The withdrawal process was horrible and long, but that is what the body must do to heal. The naysayers on these comments (1 star reviews) are like saying let a heroin addict stay in the medication, because withdrawal is too hard. These are confused parents that don't want to put their kids through what needs to be done before their healed. Down the line they will see the truth. This approach is back by many medical research articles and when they say it is not, they are lying. ITSAN is doing great work. Change is tough for most people. Leaders are often criticized. ITSAN is a leader in health recovery! Thank you ITSAN!
This organisation glorifies suffering. Take lots of pictures of your flaky red skin and post an update every week or keep a blog and you will be know as a TSW warrior!!!
It's a crying shame that this organisation knows of a better way to heal yet censors it from their poor suffering followers, it really is a bunch of brain-washed individuals leading people who are vulnerable and suffering, so sad and downright wrong. Even the founder of this organisation has distanced himself from ITSAN.
ITSAN saved me from a life of worsening "eczema" and constant suffering. Without ITSAN, I never would have learned how topical steroids were actually damaging and causing my unrelenting, spreading, and worsening eczema rather than treating it. The healing journey is long for many people (including myself), but the support from ITSAN somehow makes it more bearable.
I'd be lost without the knowledge and support of ITSAN -- they have made a world of difference to helping me understand what is happening with my situation!!! Love them!
Not a group I'd recommend d. This group uses two non-peer reviewed studies to validate their theory that TSW is real issue. Sadly what they fail to realise is by stopping their medications cold turkey they allow a rebound effect to occur and when this happens the staph bacteria goes and has a party on their skin. They dismiss any medical help, actual no that's not true. They think taking black box medicine and suppressing the immune system is a better alternative.
My experience with this group was not a good one sadly. I had bright red skin, flaking everywhere, couldn't sleep, the itch was terrible, life was terrible. This group told me it is definitely a steroid addiction? Really? I found a different way that treated the bacteria that gets into eczema prone skin and when I said that's what I'd done they deleted me? I really think they are telling people wrong information or perhaps they just don't understand? They don't allow open discussion about the topic as they fear it so much. Why? Perhaps it challenges their belief system too much? Who knows? Perhaps they've suffered for so long that don't want to believe it has all been in vain?
My red skin was cured in two days and now I don't need any topical steroid anymore except for a tiny spot I get on the back of my neck and on my left wrist. I can go weeks without needing to use it. I can't understand why anyone wanting to give up steroids (if that's what they really wanted) wouldn't start where I have and taper off slowly. Honestly if that's the end goal, why put yourself through the horrible suffering. ITSAN are missing a huge point here. They could promote this better way and then talk to their "people" about avoiding triggers for flare ups, it would be a much happier place instead of a sad, depressing world of suffering.
I don't think this is the right group to look to if you want to heal your skin, they seem to be so caught up in long term suffering.
I find these 1 star reviews interesting. I am a person going through
RSS/TSW. I am not an affiliate of Itsan in any way. I would like to
add my own response to some of the 1 star points that have been made.
1. Itsan makes money off selling people creams.
Itsan is a nonprofit. Yes NON profit. They profit from nothing.
Yes, there is a woman affiliated with Itsan who makes her own
creams/balms and sells them on Etsy. No Itsan does not make tons of
money from their sale or advertise them as a cure to RSS. Even the
woman who makes the creams does not advertise or sell them in any way
to people in the forums or groups. She does 1-2 give away type things
a year, around Thanksgiving time, to give FREE balms to people in
need. She NEVER acts like these balms will cure RSS. They won’t, just
like nothing else will besides time. They are for comfort during
withdrawal, and/or to be used during natural childhood eczema.
2. A derivative of #1- Itsan wants people to stay sick so they can
make money off them. They even ask for donations.
Just a reminder about that nonprofit thing. No reason for them to
want people to stay sick, because they make no money off of anyone.
Yes, Itsan asks for donations. As with any nonprofit, the
organization will not run without donations. The money goes to many
things including website upkeep and plane tickets to and attendance at
Eczema and Dermatological forums and meetings, etc. Look up any
nonprofit organization and there will be funds received to keep the
organization running. Truly the goal of Itsan is to eradicate the need
for itself. The goal is to get enough information out in the world
about the possibility of Topical Steroid Addiction (TSA) that people
can make informed decisions about using topical steroids and hopefully
never become addicted to them in the first place. NO TSA = No need for
Itsan.
3. Itsan is steroid phobic and is telling people that steroids cause
RSS when actually it is a staph infection.
To address the first part of the sentence, Itsan is not steroid phobic. They are very clear that steroids have a place in the medical world. The issue is not necessarily steroids themselves, but how they are being prescribed. Topical Steroids should not be used long term, nor should they be used on areas such as face, groin, and skin folds. It is well known that absorption in those areas is much higher. It states this in most pamphlets but then adds this magical little blurb "unless directed by a medical professional."
If every person suffering from RSS only had to contend with a Staph infection, wouldn't you say those same people should be able to discontinue steroid use with no difficulty once the infection has been cleared? This does not seem to be the case. Speaking from personal experience, I have no active Staph infection (which has been verified through lab testing), yet am still going through RSS. I have yet to hear of someone from the Dr. Aaron camp (those that say the "cure" is to use a steroid cream mixed with topical antibiotics diluted in an emollient in order to taper off the steroids) actually taper off the creams fully.
Speaking from my own personal experience, I have seen vast and major life improvement since stopping topical steroid treatment. On 10/3/14 I was sitting at my computer with my legs propped up and my "eczema" red and weeping through towels I had wrapped around them. All I can remember thinking is "how can this just be eczema, it keeps getting worse, this isn't normal." I had been using topical steroids (TS) for 4 years at that point. I developed a small nickel sized rash on my left hand after the birth of my daughter. I left it alone for a few months in hopes that it would go away, but when it persisted I went to my PCP. She referred me to a dermatologist. Without asking any questions about possible causes of my symptoms, he prescribed Triamcinolone. It worked in the beginning. I used it as prescribed- 2x/day for 7 days. Then I would go without for 7 days. I started to notice that the days I was using the ointment my hand would improve, but it would get bad again during the days I was not using it. I went back to the derm. He decided I needed a stronger ointment and prescribed Betamethasone, telling me to use it under saran wrap at night. Again I noticed that the days I wasn't using the ointment my skin would get worse. Then I slowly stopped seeing improvement even when I was using the ointment. Eventually my eczema spread from just that small nickel size spot on my hand to cover both hands and elbows and the lower portion of both legs.
I immediately stopped using the steroids when I found Itsan. Things have not been easy, and it truly is a hellish experience. I was red, weepy, itchy, raw, burning, emotional, unable to regulate body temperature etc etc for months. I am 16 months in and I have a quality of life again. I still deal with skin problems daily, and still have flares that are pretty awful, but I am able to be me. I 100% believe that I made the right decision. How could I possibly go back to using steroids when they stopped working for me to begin with? The first picture is 13 days off steroids, this is really similar to what my legs looked like while still using steroids but with some weeping and edema added in. The next picture is 15 months off steroids. No creams or potions or money paid, the only thing I did was to stop using steroids. That's it. If the steroids weren't the problem, why did my skin get so much better?

ITSAN 03/16/2016
Thank you for a fair and honest review. ITSAN understand the reality of addiction to this drug and the painful process of topical steroid withdrawal. We hope that the future will bring more methods of comfort for those who are suffering from topical steroid addiction. ITSAN also never advises anyone to stop topical steroids or how to withdraw from them, we share our experiences and leave it up to the individual how to proceed. We also strongly encourage a supportive doctor's guidance for those who take this route. Our mission is not to have conflict with Dr. Aron supporters as we are sure he feels he is helping many children but there are serious concerns of the safety of his method to treat eczema. Using topical steroids combined with antibiotics 6 times a day for 6 months is not an approved method of treatment by the mainstream dermatologists. In fact India just banned several drug combos which include corticosteroid/antibiotics mixes due to the danger of using them. Topical steroid addiction or steroid-induced eczema has been studied and cited in medical reviews just as steroid-induced rosacea has. There are studies that date back to the onset of corticosteroids that prove it has side-effects that should be taken seriously and that eczema was never considered a life-long disease. The burn that comes with tsa is not a symptom of original eczema along with several other side-effects that come with the withdrawal. Here are some cited facts and the reason India just banned some of the same medications once thought to be safe. "Several studies report improvement of clinical scores after treatment.12–14 The use of crystal violet as a topical agent led to improvement in S aureus–colonized AD.12 Topical application of retapamulin also led to improvement of atopic skin lesions.13 The use of topical mupirocin was shown to reduce S aureus colonization and, in the short term, improve clinical scores.14 Nevertheless, improvement was temporary and carried the risk of potential adverse events such as contact dermatitis and enhanced drug resistance.15 Staphylococcus aureus–associated resistance has been recognized as a growing problem. A report indicated that resistance levels to fucidin increased from 2% in the past decade to 10% to 38%.9 In the face of increased prevalence of antibiotic resistance and the lack of satisfactory data on benefits, long-term use of systemic or topical antibiotics for AD is not recommended.15,16 When overt signs of bacterial superinfection are present on skin lesions, short-term use of oral or topical antibiotics is justified.15" http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3114666/ "In a recent study, researchers examined 75 patients (62 women, 13 men) between the ages of 18 and 60 who had steroid-induced rosacea-like dermatitis. The patients had used topical corticosteroids for anywhere from three months to 10 years. More than 90 percent suffered facial redness and hotness, and 97 percent reported burning or itching. More than three quarters suffered from telangiectasia (visible blood vessels), and 40 percent had the bumps and pimples associated with subtype 3 (papulopustular) rosacea. Many patients reported emotional stress, heat or sun exposure as triggers for their outbreak of symptoms. The good news is that effective treatment of rosacea-like symptoms due to topical corticosteroids is usually very simple: stop using the medication. " http://www.rosacea.org/weblog/great-impostor-steroid-induced-rosacea Steroid cocktails, which are in fixed dose combinations, are mixed with various antifungal and anti-bacterials thus making the drugs extremely dangerous and irrational. Use of irrational topical steroid combinations can lead to drug resistance. “Dermatologists are seeing increasingly widespread fungal diseases where the use of irrational combination drugs has been implicated. The fungal diseases do not respond to conventional drugs for conventional duration and dose,” said Dr. Shyam B Verma, dermatologist based in Vadodara, Gujarat. “Indian doctors are witnessing a pandemic of adverse effects induced by topical corticosteroids,” Dr. Verma writes in a news piece published on Thursday (November 26) in the medical journal The BMJ. "Topical steroids can cause substantial and permanent damage, especially to thin skin such as on the face and groin, even if used for a short period of 15 days. Side effects include pigmentation and atrophy of the skin. “Misuse of steroid combinations can cause bacterial or fungal resistance, which can make infections difficult to diagnose and treat,” Dr. Verma writes. According to a 2011 study, nearly 15 per cent of dermatology patients were found using topical corticosteroids. Of the 15 per cent, over 90 per cent had adverse effects." http://m.thehindu.com/sci-tech/health/irrational-topical-steroid-combinations-can-cause-drug-resistance/article7918516.ece
A steroid phobic community that encourages suffering. There are far less torturous ways to heal than this cold turkey method they encourage. ITSAN promote their way only and censor all other suggestions. I especially disagree with their ethos when it comes to babies and children.
Thank you to ITSAN for providing the information. My daughter been using steroids but it doesn't helped at all. After we stopped, her skin is much more healthier and we see the huge difference! Keep helping.
Not a place I'd recommend because of the high censorship and deletion of any whiff of an easier way to heal.
I guess it must be hard for the admins to admit there could have been a better way, especially when you've suffered or allowed your children to suffer so much. This organisation thrives on it's own pity and if you're not suffering you must not be doing it right. it's very idealistic to believe by using everything natural you will heal. I guess there is some truth in that but in this situation most people need medical help. Children have died at the hands of ITSAN, not a responsible organisation.
Itsan was very discouraging to me when I posted about other available options for treating my skin eczema. I was considering topical steroids and on mentioning this, I was made to feel like I was a horrible person. The one statement they kept repeating was that I was "delaying the inevitable". They believe that everyone who uses topical steroids is addicted. I do not understand the group mentality that exists in their forum but I am no longer a part of it. I am now back on topical steroids for the treatment of my skin, under the care of my doctor, and doing splendidly well!
As the Co-Founder of ITSAN and someone that started this journey 7 years ago I still get daily thank you emails from people around the world that have had their skin saved and their lives returned to normal because of the information that ITSAN has provided for them.
In some respects ITSAN is a whistle blowing organization. Many people (Mom's whose kids are addicted to Topical Steroids, Doctors who use topical steroids, Organizations that want to keep the status quo and doctors/people making money on the internet promoting their own products) don't want to hear ITSAN's message. It is an urgent and valuable message based on decades of medical research.
When an organization like ITSAN is making this much of a difference--questioning current medical treatment methods, they are going to ruffle some feathers. Do your own research and you will see that ITSAN is an outstanding organization. GOLD level on GuideStar for Non-profits, a member of the Coalition of Skin Diseases. ITSAN is a volunteer run organization.
It is laughable when stated that "someone is making money" at ITSAN. ITSAN is volunteer run and volunteers work countless hours only to help others. The reason I left ITSAN, as the Co-Founder, was because I was working 40-60 hours per week on ITSAN, all volunteer hours. As a small business owner, I had to get back to my own business.
ITSAN is a well run, transparent, professional organization bringing extremely valuable information to the world. They deserve 5 stars and global recognition for this work.
I think some mean well but there is clearly someone making money from behind the scenes. Why censor other ways to heal if there wasn't money to be made. Such a shame as people continue to suffer because of someone's greed.
Itsan is a wonderful organisation. I send thousands of eczema sufferers to their website from my blog (www.eczemahealing.blogspot.com), and every single person in need is welcomed into their community and educated on their options xo
This group saved my life. I was lost before and didnt really know whar to do when my eczema kept getting worst till i saw ITSAN and watched dr rappaport on you tube. Just knowing what i have and that i can be cured is an increfible and empowering feeling. Now im just looking forward to healing and maybe wearing a skirt w no stockings in summer. Thank you so much ITSAN.
Incredible charity providing support, resources and awareness to those suffering from RSS. As someone who has been dealing with this condition for over 3 years, itsan and its network of others going through the same thing really has been a life saver, I will forever be greatful to itsan
This organization is faking reviews, asking their Facebook friends with no connection to the organization to leave reviews.
I was a 3 year member of Itsan. You can still find many of my posts on the Itsan forum. I simply did not heal during this time. Even worse was that I spent several hours a day in the bathtub at the advice of those before me who were correct in telling me that this was the best way to find relief. I was completely out of touch with society. I had NO life at all. I was simply waiting around to be healed. It never happened.
Here's a great article that explains it much better. http://etsin.org/dr-aron-vs-topical-steroid-withdrawal-tsw/
This charity are really making a difference in terms of re educating on the appropriate use of topical steroids and how to get the best medical advice during withdrawal. Keep up the good work guys.
Helped my friend immensely! Typical steroids are a great medicine, but when done in excess or for people with steroid Sensitivities we really need people like this looking out for those in need!
Thanks to the work of ITSAN I'm now aware of the potential for topical steroid dependency and have moderated steroid use in my children with eczema. Prevention is better than cure, thank you for your work ITSAN.
50 years of using TS 11 months in TSW, it goes with ups and terrible downs but no more steroids for me, I wish I had this knowledge 30 years ago!!
This organization has been incredibly supportive and empowering for a friend who has been struggling with withdrawal for many months. Very thankful for its work.
This page has become a place to state opinions on the benefits and negatives of not just ITSAN and the other connected Facebook Groups but the very thing they all encourage - TSW.
It is disturbing how hear-say is blatnetly passed off as fact by admins and others in these groups. People are advised - 'oh yeah it's probably not infected, just stick with it, and oh yeah it is probably TSW' - whatever they present.
The Dr who once started ITSAN has now distanced himself from it, that speaks volumes.
These groups are depressing places where not treating your skin is celebrated and people are not encouraged to seek medical advice. There are a lot of people in poor mental health and undetgoing unimaginable suffering, all the while saying ITSAN has saved them.
They say they just do what they do with no effect in others, but they are convincing others that they need to do the same.
People diagnose themselves just by matching photos up, it is horribly dangerous.
It's a good way to distribute information that helps people make better educated decisions about topical steroid use
Dreadfully sad and unnecessary suffering encouraged by poorly educated individuals. I researched it and I would NEVER do that to my child.
ITSAN has helped my sister greatly. She has been suffering from topical steroid withdrawal for about two years and the support of the community has given her the strength to carry on many times when she was at her wits end .
This charity helped my friend whose daughter has been dealing with topical steroid withdrawal! So happy there was help for her!
ITSAN helped me get my life back. If it wasn't for this organization, I wouldn't be here right now! They do everything they can to spread the word of the dangers of topical steroids, and support those of us going through the hell that is TSW. Forever thankful for ITSAN!
I'm so grateful that my friend shared the information about Itsan with me. There is a need to get word out about TSW and its groups like this one that will help spread the message of the potential dangers of topical Steriod usage.
Itsan is very supportive with relevant information helping those including myself who are going through tsw. Wonderful organization.
ITSAN has helped a friend of mine going through TSW. She has spoken highly of this network, and the information you put out there is important. Thank you!
Itsan helped out a friend of mine :) I think it is great education as well for those who do not fully understand
ITSAN helped a friend of mine get through steroid withdrawal and they deserve all the highest reviews and regards in creating a community and access to important resources people in desperate situations need.
ITSAN has helped me get through TSW and encourage me to be a strong person. I am truly thankful for the support ITSAN has given me
Finding this site has given me not just invaluable advice but pretty much the only advice available. It has helped me with the resources I need to explain my TSW to my GP and my dermatologist. In this medical blindspot Itsan shines a crucial light.
ITSAN has been such a huge support during my withdrawal from steroids. I used for over 40 years on and off. Im 20 months off steroid creams now and have a tiny rash behind my knees, not even worth talking about. Life is normal again. No more prescriptions every bloody month and making sure you have a,b,c creams before you live. No more steroids or bundles of moisturisers. No more feeling like you have ants eating you 24/7 head to toe, no more grey pallor, poor circulation, fatigue. Get a grip. If you're using steroids as long as I am and you have these symptoms, you know what I mean. Life is too short.
ITSAN has helped my daughter tremendously. She is a fighter and never gives up. When things get tough she only gets tougher.
Great organization! My wife is currently going through tsw and it has been a blessing having this organization out there for her to find spiritual support and guidance through. Knowing she is not alone in this struggle and that there are so many others who have suffered from this abundant medical malpractice and the over-prescription of corticosteroids.
I found out about Itsan in 2014 and it saved my life, and my skin is healing without steroids!! Thank you ITSAN! We will all heal, whether it's you that are going through this, a friend or a family member. We are here for eachother.
If it had not been for this organisation I would have been in a really bad way - I was overdosing on topical steroids and did not know it until I accidentally stumbled upon their website . It is a FANTASTIC NETWORK
ITSAN has helped me learn so much valuable information about the prolonged usage of Topical Steroids. I am so thankful to have found this site! It helped me figure out what was wrong with my skin. TSW/RSS whatever you want to call it....its really awful to go through, and knowledge is power! Wonderful website!
This website saved me. No one told me the dangers of steroids but I came across ITSAN one day and realized the horror of what was happening to my body. The withdrawal process has been ore bareable now that I know what has been happening is normal and I can also prepare for what is to come.
Itsan has been a god send to me! Made me aware of the dangers steroids can do! I'm so glad I am with now where I am, and so much more happier in life! This needs to be spread so the world can stop the steroids and make adults and children stop suffering! Thank you itsan
After I stopped using steroids I realised my skin took the same length of time to heal using natural products so will stick to natural remedies that dont thin my skin
anyone who claims to be a medical professional and says that topical steroid withdrawal doesn't exist is so misinformed. finding itsan saved my life and my skin, I'm 14 months off steroids and nearly completely healed. my skin has never looked better! everyone with eczema needs to take this message VERY seriously.
This site is a literally a life saver for many people with much support and advice for a terrible condition brought on by pharmaceutical drugs. Deserves 10 stars.
To anyone claiming ITSAN isn't backed by science is wrong! It is FULLY backed by science AND experience. Dr Rapaport is the world leader on steroids and many more dermatologists out there are following the same path! It's the reason they tell you not to use steroids for more than a few days at a time! Thank you OTSAN for saving so many!
ITSAN has been a very helpful ressource. Provided professionnal tips on how to deal with problematic skin health.
ITSAN when I stumbled upon your site all my questions about steroids were confirmed, thank you for your invaluable, life changing insights and support!

ITSAN is a wonderful site full of people who are supporting each other and sharing helpful information. The site has helped my wife greatly and I would highly recommend it.
I found itsan and realised I was not alone with my skin issues. I am 10 months in to tsw after using topical steroids all my life. It is the most difficult journey I have ever taken but knowing that others have walked the same road and come out the other side with the best skin of their lives gives me hope for the future.
Thanks to Itsan I've found the answer after 10 years of using steroids, I was so depressed that my eczema was a lost cause.
It passed already a year since I've read all the information of Itsan, and I'm more than happy after all this I can be a really normal person, and Im really grateful with the forums, and facebooks groups for all the support, that helped me in all this process. I have to add, that Im from Guatemala, and I've known a lot of people all over the world that suffers from this! SO THANKS MANY THANKS ITSAN FOR PUTTING THE INFORMATION WERE ANYONE CAN SEE IT! THIS DESERVES MORE THAN FIVE STARS!
ITSAN has offered so much information and support during this healing process. I'm so thankful to have such a fantastic resource available.
I don't know where I would be right now without the ITSAN. Oh wait, I do. I would still be miserably addicted to potent steroids. Thank you for opening my eyes to the truth and allowing my body to start the healing process after so many years of damage.
They have helped a friend of mine and I know she couldn't be recovering as she is today without their support!
A little over a year ago, I was in a search for help after my doctor kept prescribing higher and higher dosages of topical steroids for my psoriasis on my scalp. The topicals would work at first but then my skin would get used to that and I was just getting worse. Thank God that I found ITSAN and another Facebook support group that shared the information about topical steroid addiction! It is a very real condition!!! If steroids are used over 2 weeks, you are setting yourself up! My doctor had prescribed the increasing dosages of steroids over many, many years. It was very difficult going through the withdrawal, but I am through the worst of it and doing so much better- without any steroid medications now!!! To those of us who have been through withdrawal, of course we want to shout from the rooftops when we have found what has helped us! Thank you ITSAN!!!
As a keratosis pilaris sufferer I have often used steroid creams to calm flares. I have never used it for more than the time prescribed but I can see why others would miss the memo or be so excited about results that they ignore. Organisations like this are vital to help those lost and in need. Good on you guys!
I wish I'd found ITSAN before I ever touched a tube of topical steroids. These drugs turned a very minor patch of eczema on one hand into a red raging hell on both of my hands, arms and legs. My doctor's recommendation: more and stronger steroids. Without the information and support on ITSAN I would not have made it through this last year. Topical steroid addiction and withdrawal is a very real and difficult process to go through. We need more awareness and support, not attacks by people who are still hooked on these dangerous drugs or promoting drug company interests.

The information compiled and shared by ITSAN is guiding me through one of the worst things I have ever faced. Topical Steroid Withdrawal and Red Skin Syndrome are not even acknowledged as real by most of our medical establishment so without ITSAN I would probably still be using steroids and getting sicker every day. Thanks to ITSAN I am now five months through the withdrawal process and getting my health back. Knowledge is power and ITSAN is empowering people to direct their own health choices. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I've had eczema since I was a kid. I've used steroids since I was a kid. Over the years they have stopped working and made my rash worse. I've been at a loss trying to figure out what was wrong. Since finding this website I have found amazing knowledge that has helped me immensely. Thanks ITSAN :-)
I am now 27 months TSW and have much stronger skin than when I started. I no longer have allergic reactions in the fall or inflamed bags under my eyes, two things I had chronically through a lifetime on topical steroids. If you have RSS I recommend seeing someone to help manage dryness and infection - these are the two components of TSW that need the most attention and care. Without ITSAN, I would still be addicted to steroids.
Itsan helped a dear friend of mine! There needs to 've more information and people speaking up about this terrible, serious condition.
Itsan is a phenomenal organization. It has helped my friend and many others take control of their own health and restored their lives. Keep up the great work!
I was able to successfully confirm my child's condition using this website. Her health and happiness are a result of this information.
ITSAN has been my saving grace. After suffering for over 2 years with severe dermatitis, my skin is looking the best it has looked in years by simply stopping the use of topical steroids. I had no idea that steroid creams could exacerbate and worsen skin conditions. I am regaining my life thanks to ITSAN!
I have a friends and their children going through RSS right now after years and years of constant steroid use. Luckily, it was caught early. It reminds us that doctors are only knowledgeable about stuff they have studied and learned and what is current for them, may not be current.
ITSAN saved my face...and my sanity ! No one believed my symptoms or had a clue how to break the vicious cycle. That was, until I found ITSA>
Without ITSAN I would not know that it was the very steroid cream I was applying that was causing my greatly worsening 'eczema '. Without them I would still be in a very dark place instead of leading of normal life.
ITSAN is helped save my friends life. Thank you! They are a valuable resource to those suffering with TSW and for future education and awareness.
Topical Steroid Withdrawal is real and the work ITSAN is doing to help spread that message and support those affected is so important.
Itsan saved my 3years old sons life. Thank you. I will be grateful forever finding ITSAN and fund out about red slon syndrome
I accidentally stumbled on to this site after many years of the topical steroids I was given were failing to relieve my eczema. The stronger steroid the worsening of my condition. This site saved my life! The support, the encouragement, just overall family atmosphere in this group was overwhelming! If you or a loved one is suffering from this terrible, incurable condition this is the site that will change your life for the better. Steroids are poisonous period.
This organization helped my friend through a very difficult time with her son. Such an invaluable resource for people who suffer from Red Skin Syndrome.
The information given from this group group helped a friend that had given up on all hope. Thank you for helping her and her daughter find real answers and solutions.
ITSAN is doing great work for a severely underserved community. Their staff is entirely volunteer, and many of them are suffering themselves while working hard to get the word out about this terrible condition. These people are saints and deserve all the praise in the world.
Don't believe the one-star reviews. They are fake, all coming from the same person who has an axe to grind. It's too bad this web site allows one angry person to flood an organization with fake reviews and bring the entire rating down for everyone else. This web site should not allow that to happen.
Its an offers caring support for TSW. My grandson is well and happy now, and it's an supported their family all the way.
Keep up the great work! This is a little known cause, but so important for those who are affected. This organization had helped my friend and her daughter.
After years of dead ends and desperation, this organization helped my friend not only find answers, but help heal her child. I am thankful for their help.
ITSAN is an amazing organization! They helped my friend through the harrowing ordeal of topical steroid addiction with her child. People need to know that this condition exists and that it is terrible! Drug companies that make steroid products want to sweep the suffering of these people under the rug so they can sell more products. We need ITSAN to bring awareness to the dangers of excessive topical steroid use.
This organization helped my friend's son when no one could figure out what was happening to him! Thank you!
This company is wonderful! It helped my friend out who had a son that went through steroid addiction.
ITSAN helped a friend of mine through one of the worst years of her life. Her son developed red skin syndrome as a result of (prescribed) lengthy use of prescribed steroid medication. It was torturous for her son and for her but they made it through withdrawals and he now has beautiful skin and none of the painful side effects. Organizations like this help bring awareness so that others don't have to go through the same (dr. prescribed) mistake!
So thankful for an organization that embodies the idea of allowing individuals to own their own medical experiences and who supports their efforts to find individual solutions that work. They have blessed the life of a dear friend of mine who was attempting to find answers for her son. Thank you.
This organization has been a life-saver for my sanity. They encourage you to find a Dr who is supportive of the TSW path. Dr Rappaport himself says if you're oozing and raw, to soak in epsom salt baths until that phase of withdrawal stops. Here you are in good company with others who are either in the same place as you are, or who have completed thei TSW journey and they are most supportive and helpful. You are not alone when you connect with the famiilies and individuals with ITSAN.
My son suffered severe eczema and rebounds from steroids so bad he broke out into hives when we ran out of his Triamcinolone and had to be put on Prednisone with more Triamcinolone. So thankful for ITSAN and being out of that vicious cycle. 29 mns steroid free and my boy is stronger, healthier and growing!
Thank you for the good work that you do! You guys helped a dear friend of mine, without you guys they wouldn't have gotten the information they needed!
Watched as my dear friends son suffered through this. It would be wonderful for parents like her to have a place to go for support!
Information and support are powerful in times of distress. I know that steroids are addictive and I'm hoping more people can learn about this. ITSAN has been a beacon of information for our family. We need more of this.
We have been blessed by this organzation 10 fold. Our identical twin boys body was severely addicted to topical steroids. Anyone who says this doesn't exist truly has not experienced this. Their skin is beyond belief better and don't need any steroids at all.
This organization helped a dear friend as her son battled Topical Steroid Addiction. Thanks to her dedication and ITSAN he is finally leading a normal life. What a great group and great group of people.
ITSAN helped my little cousin get through a rough time. His skin is happy and healthy now. Thank you!!!
Thank you so much for all of your information and support! Keep up the good work in raising awareness!
ITSAN was a godsend for my grandson. ITSAN helped my daughter to find information regarding her son's condition, which, unfortunately, few dermatologists are familiar with.
ITSAN's website specifically states that it does not provide medical advice, but only information. It has links to scholarly journals and testimonials, but leaves it to the user to decide how to use the information.
This organization was a huge help in helping one of my best friends treat her little girl. Until she found this page her daughter was miserable after coming across this page and it's invaluable information she was able to help her daughter who is now doing amazing!
My niece suffered from eczema since she was a baby. She was treated by several different doctors with medicines that contain steroids. It just continued to worsen as my sister-in-law kept searching for answers. She finally found ITSAN and with their help and support, my niece is finally almost completely healed and it is so nice to see pictures of her happy and healthy with clear skin!
This organization truly helped, even saved my friend and her son during the difficult days. So grateful there are organizations out there like yours.
Thank you!! You have helped save my son. Without the education I have received my son would have continued to suffer.
ITSAN helped me to know what was going on with my daughter. We are 27 months steroid free and had a rough first 15 months. She has healed nicely and has beautiful skin now that is not dependent on steroids to keep it that way.
The information provided FOR FREE by ITSAN saved my daughter's life! When doctors scratched their heads and grasped at straws ITSAN had answers. They work so hard to share that information with doctors and patients.
Years of misdiagnosis and 15 months after finding ITSAN my daughter is healed. HEALED as in completely healthy and requiring no further treatment. Healed
Itsan has supported a dear friend of mine and her son. Great organization to work with. Top notch and first class!!
You were able to help my friend's son get through a very hard time. I hope you can continue to help others by spreading the word that you can give them some support.
This organization totally helped my best friend as her son battled Topical Steroid Addiction. I am so glad that he has finally overcome the nightmare that topical steroids caused. He is finally leading a normal life. GO ITSAN!!!!
Itsan saved my son's skin. We were supported by our local doctor. I support itsan in its mission to spread the word about TSW.
My son would be extremely sick to this day if it wasn't for ITSAN. Thanks, ITSAN, for your work!

I owe my son's health to ITSAN. For years his eczema was worsening, his quality of life was terrible, and he suffered greatly. Because of ITSAN I learned that it was the topical steroids that were making him worse all along. He has been off of steroids for 29 months now and he is doing extremely well. Thanks, ITSAN!!!
Thank you for getting the word out! This organization has helped my and cousin and her family through a difficult time. Great job!
This organization supported my friend through a dark time and now her son is happy and healthy. Thank you so much for all your help!
So thankful to this organization. The information they have complied about Red Skin Syndrome changed my child's life. Without their support, I can't imagine what would have happened. Forever grateful!
Amazingly supportive charity, who did so much to support our family through a hideous time. Thanks to them I have have a happy and healthy son who is through withdrawal and has no skin issues, without having the information and papers that they freely offer, and the support this would never have been made possible. Thanks again.
ITSAN is a wealth of information and scholarly research on Red Skin Syndrome, as well as a vast, International support network. Beware of the 1 star reviews that are all on the same day, one after the other after the other. How many non-profit charities have 1 star reviews one after the other in rapid fire succesion like that? You might see a few 2 or 3 star reviews, but 1 star..? That many? All on the same day? There is a business with a personal vendetta against ITSAN because ITSAN helps people who are witbdrawing from steroids-- and the business sells steroids. They have given their administrators the job of putting up several false, 1 star reviews daily, all in a row. Their goal is to discredit a charity organization whose only aim is to help people, simply because ITSAN will not support use of their product. The trouble started late 2015. It is easy to see that the reviews before that - done by people sincerely utilizing the services of ITSAN, were overwhelmingly favorable. Please do not be fooled by these false reviews. Some folks are just plain vindictive. Instead of focusing on selling their product, they feel the must spread negative energy and falsehoods. And it isn't even close to a fair fight because they are not a non-profit, so there is no opportunity to rate them on this website. Take all 1 star reviews from late 2015 to now and place them where they belong - in the trash. ITSAN has been nothing but a lifesaver and should be rated well above 5 stars. There is no way these 1 star reviewers are in the least bit credible or legitimate.
Grossly misinforming people with improper medical advice when they are in need of help. This organization should be shut down.
If you have a small child, Itsan will convince you that the only way for that child to heal is through suffering. No thanks, Itsan. My doctor says otherwise so I'll try a less painful solution.
I have gained great knowledge through ITSAN and my son's eczema was naturally healed without the use of steroids. I have witnessed people including friends who have been using steroids and their eczema keep coming back, worse each time. Why use steroids when we can be naturally healed from within and outside?
Words cannot describe how thankful I am to ITSAN. It gave me hope in the darkest moments in my life. It definitely deserve a 5 star or even more.
An organization whose primary goal is to encourage people to suffer and go against the advice of their doctors. This is lunacy and some people actually buy into it!
Thanks Grace and ITS an, for giving me the opportunity to heal naturally and confidently despite some challenges... You are awesome... Big big Hug!
From Dr. MS Teoh, Surgeon (3 years steroid -free) Yay!
I don't understand what Itsan is trying to accomplish. They pride themselves on suffering and in encouraging others to suffer. They don't believe in medicine and you'll be insulted if you do. A terrible organization.
Steroids only works temporary! If you are using it too often, it means u r hooked! Find out the real cause of your eZcema, suppressing it symptoms won't help!
ITSAN has not only helped folks in the States, but also in Asia, and it is because of ITSAN that our Singapore-based support group was founded, where we learned about the effects of steroids on our skin and organs. Through ITSAN, thousands of lives and marriages and families have been saved. Thank you, ITSAN, and every volunteer who has selflessly given of your time and life, towards educating the world about topical steroids and what it does to eczema folks like us. We are MORE than grateful for you!
My son is thriving thanks to information I found on ITSAN's website. I wish the organization the best of luck in spreading the word about TSW!
I had taken my son to several immunology specialists and allergists trying to figure out why my son couldn't go longer than 2-3 days without strong steroids before flaring. Once I found itsan, I realized exactly why that was -- my son was addicted to steroids. The itsan site is a wealth of information on both what to expect and how to get medical help from medical doctors.
ITSAN is such a wonderful organization. They held the key to helping our Doctor understand what was going on with our child when we were faced with the unknowns of Red Skin Syndrome. With our Doctor's research and info he found through ITSAN, Dr Rapaport and others who had paved the way before us, he held our hand with guidance and care as we all watched our child heal! ITSAN is an amazing community of individuals who have realized that they, and many others on this planet, can not tolerate the use of steroids at all and have horrific side effects from them - some, after even very small uses. These 1 star reviews that are trying to discredit and bog down these pages are very telling. They have an agenda to push their quick pharmaceutical "cure" with a Doctor who uses massive amounts of steroids and antibiotics. There are too many people now in the ITSAN groups and forums that have HEALED - totally and beautifully - without steroids! Please see through the spam of the 1 star reviews on this site - they are from the same community who stalk the ITSAN forum and FB groups trying to convince those (who have had these horrific reactions to steroids) that they are somehow wrong for trying to get away from what has caused them so much pain and suffering in the first place.
ITSAN is amazing and I am SO eternally grateful to them! Keep doing what you are doing! You are saving skin!!
ITSAN was a lifeline. I would have never known what was going on with my son had it not been for this charity. They provide information and support. The information, I discussed with my doctors. They all supported the process of topical steroid withdrawal, as all other treatments had been exhausted and were producing side effects -- in addition to Red Skin Syndrome. The support, I depended on. Red Skin Syndrome is a debilitating condition. It is not chronic. But in the acute phase, support from others who have come out the other side is vital. It is a shame that the December 14-15th 1 star reviews were written by people who have never utilized ITSAN for support, but are instead wishing to sell their product. If stopping steroids improves the condition in 12 months time, and using steroids for 3 years straight did nothing but cause full-body burning/shedding/weeping skin, which would you choose? Thank God for ITSAN! My son's skin no longer burns, sheds, cracks, and/or weeps. He is healthy and well, and now all of his doctors are aware of Red Skin Syndrome and the damage topical steroids can cause for some unfortunate users.
Thank you itsan! Without this organization, I would have never believe that my children were suffering from topical steroid overuse. My 2 children are healing and will have a normal life now. The last 3 years have been so difficult for them.
Finding ITSAN saved my young daughter from years of agony. I'm grateful everyday for ITSAN. I can't say enough about how much ITSAN has helped us. I'm truly thankful EVERYDAY!
ITSAN literally saved my life. I would give it 100 stars if I could. I was suffering from a major immune disorder that I thought was an incurable, unknown disease. No doctor or dermatologist knew what was causing it and they just kept giving me more and more steroids (injections, creams, pills) which only made things worse. ITSAN showed me that steroid addiction is real and gave me resources and support. I am now much better but still recovering now 10 months after stopping all steroids.
There are not enough stars to rate this nonprofit as high as it deservs. They raise awareness that completely changes lives. They are also very professional. I suffered very mild periodical atopic eczema as a child and it was in no way life debilitating. Steroid induced eczema took over in my 20s and I suffered worse and worse conditions after rounds of stronger prescriptions of corticosteroids. The reason steroid induced eczema continues to be mistaken for natural eczema is due to the increadibly long and painful withdrawal process from the drug, which reverting back to the drug appears to offer great releif from (in the short term).
I was lost until I found this group. Wondering why my daughters eczema was getting worse and worse. Doing what docs told me to do. Was anyone else going through the same thing? How can she be the only one with this problem? Thank you Itsan for showing me the light and a healing daughter.
I am almost 3 years in #tsw #rss. I am also still suffering Itsan, org made my sufferig easier....although a living hell..Itsan.org really helped so I could see others and relate to those going thru the same thing.

We are the grand parents of a 4 year old little boy that has been suffering from Topical Steroid Addiction and Red Skin Syndrome withdrawals for the past 2 years. ITSAN has been instrumental in making information aware to those suffering from the horrid malady and to their support groups of friends and family. This service alone warrants the 5 star rating. Couple that with ITSAN's efforts to alert the medical and pharmaceutical community of the dreadful effects of the use of Topical Steroids on some people puts this organization in the front of compassionate and caring individuals' Please support ITSAN, visit their site today, you won't be sorry. Such a great nonprofit! Wouldn't have been able to get through TSW without all the wonderful information provided
ITSAN saved my life. I would still be dependent on steroid creams if i hadn't discovered their website. I used their website as my main source for advice and inspiration. ITSAN has inspired so many, including myself, to start or join online communities that provide the most crucial support an individual needs during this rough time. I have no doubt that the ITSAN community is going to continue grow for the next decade or two. Steroid creams are poison!
ITSAN's tireless work is invaluable. Without this organization we might never have found out about the problems plaguing our daughter and the ultimate solution. It was viewing ITSAN's videos in the middle of the night that gave me the lightbulb moment that began our journey towards true healing instead of the iatrogenic nightmare we were coping with. Thank you ITSAN for all you do.
I cannot express the relief in finding ITSAN and the support and information from this pioneering group. Topical Steroid Addiction and withdrawal is intensely difficult and enduring. Without the excellent support found through ITSAN I, and many others would be continuing on a destructive path with our health. The knowledge gained here is invaluable to all.
ITSAN saved my sanity when I was not sure initially what was going on with my skin. Through the excellent articles that explained what was happening to me and the ongoing support of fellow members, I have learned how to deal with this horrific disease that the medical field barely recognizes. I now stand my ground when prescribed any steroids, whether they be topical or oral and firmly state that I want a non-steroidal alternative. Now the doctors and others have to work a little harder, but that is fine with me. I am at present 5 weeks and 1 day TSW. Thank you to all the supporters and organizers of this Life Saving non profit organization.
ITSAN changed my life. I couldn't be more grateful for finding this wonderful website. Thank you so much.
Because of ITSAN I finaly know what future I have. I know now that corticosteroids are the problem for me and making me red. Thanks to them I can show my familie, friends and doctor(s) what I'm going through and also have a lot more support thanks to this.
It is amazing that they have many researches and info on there site about RSS and topical steroid withdrawal. Thanks to them I look and feel a lot better then I was 1 year ago, when I still used TS. And don't forget there forum where we can share our stories, problems and tips.
If it were not for ITSAN I would still be covering myself every day with a medication that was essentially poisoning me. After twenty three years of battling an escalating skin condition and hundreds of dollars spent on specialists and the awful drugs they prescribed, I finally found an answer through ITSAN. While I have a long road ahead of me as I leave my steroid dependency behind, I would still be wandering in the dark without ITSAN. The knowledge and support I have found through ITSAN has changed my life. There are few things worse than facing a health crisis that the medical community does not acknowledge. You feel lost and helpless; defeated before the battle even begins. You feel desperate for answers and information. All you want is help. ITSAN is a gleaming ray of hope for the thousands - yes, THOUSANDS - of us that were mislead and misinformed about topical steroid use. You can't put a price on your health, and ITSAN doesn't either. Their help and advice has been 100% free of charge, and that's something not a single one of my doctors could say. THANK YOU ITSAN! From the bottom of my heart, thank you, thank you, thank you.
When I hit the brick wall on searching for some answers about my skin, i apparently stumbled upon ITSAN website. ITSAN totally understand what I am going through / what i have gone through all these years. Every statement was spot on and it made me realized that dependence on steroids just really make a whole lot of sense. I am going through TSW right now, and I wouldnt be strong enough to have to live this choice if not for ITSAN and all the supportive groups I'm in.
ITSAN is nothing less than a lifesaver for scared and confused people suffering with Topical Steroid Addiction. They provide support, community, information, and advocacy for a group of patients which has been largely ignored by the medical community. ITSAN has integrity, dedication, and commitment to mission. Applause to ITSAN!
We experienced EXACTLY what was put forth by this group, before there was anyone to publicly identify the problem and the solution. We wished they were around when we went through the suffering. The public (and doctors!) needs to be educated about the harmful and devastating affects of cortico-steroids.
I can't even begin to express how grateful I am to ITSAN. I researched for years trying to figure out what was wrong with me, then happened upon their website one day. Everything just clicked all of a sudden when I read about TSA/W. It was an "AHA" moment for me and I often go back to the website when I have questions and need more answers. It has literally been a lifesaver for me!
ITSAN has made me aware of the potential damage that can be caused by the over use of topical steroids. Thank you ITSAN :-)
ITSAN.org changed my life! When I needed answers and support through my illness with Red Skin Syndrome, it was a reliable and easy to read resource. The forum has helped me tremendously to connect with people all over the world.
When i found itsan it changed my lite. 28 years on steroids! And thanka to itsan i got The strenght and support to quit and be free of my addiction and eczema
My son was only a toddler when he was suffering from RSS. I took him to COUNTLESS doctors, including many specialists that we traveled have way around the country to see, and after way too many tests, pokes, prods, endoscopies, skin biopsies on my poor baby, not one single doctor could explain what was happening. The only thing they could do was prescribe more steroids, stronger steroids, which made it worse. When I stumbled across ITSAN at 4am after being up all night googling and reading article after article in medical journals, I couldn't believe that my exceedingly rare son had the same thing being described on the itsan site, to the T! Our lives from there on out was changed forever. At over 2 years with zero steroids, my son's skin looks better than ever. He's healthier than he's ever been, and it's all thanks to ITSAN. They explain the facts, provide an extensive amount of medical research publications, and provide excellent support. A true God-send.
ITSAN deserves every credit it rightfully earns, and more! It gave hope to my son, to have a normal future not plagued by infantile eczema which turned into a nightmare of Red Skin Syndrome through prescribed topical steroid applications. A ruined childhood, adolescence, and young adulthood, for being an “excellent” patient, is too high a price to pay.
ITSAN is bringing awareness to the potential harm of topical steroids to many thousands, and hopefully will prevent what my son sent through.
Thank you, ITSAN!
How could dermatologist after dermatologist keep prescribing my daughter topical steroids? She was started on them at the young age of 2 the was told to use them non-stop for the last 5 years. At age 7 they stopped working all together and they wanted to start giving her stronger steroids and even a prednisone shot. HOW IS THIS A STANDARD OF CARE THAT IS APPROVED BY THE AMERICAN ACADEMY OF DERMATOLOGY? It is NOT. Yet, many, many dermatologists treat eczema patients this way. My daughter's health is moving in the right directness now that we have found ITSAN. What ITSAN does is offer and option that is not popular or easy. The medical community must change their ways. Thank you ITSAN for going against the tide and getting people to take responsibility for examining a system of treating eczema that has gone astray. As ITSAN grows more people will get help.
Discovering ITSAN has changed my life.
I used oral and topical steroids for over 35 years to treat excema, however over time my skin has gradually become worse and worse. When I stumbled upon the ITSAN site, I found a community of people with variations on my story.
The support and information I get from the forum is proving invaluable as I experience the horror trip of withdrawal. I am sure many of the sufferers who use the forum would not be able to survive without the empathy, information and reassurance provided by fellow members.
The role ITSAN provides in educating the medical community and raising awareness to the public at large is invaluable in preventing further suffering.
I had used steroids for 2 years and I stop 3 weeks ego because prednisone staring to hurt my stomach and my Dr. wanted to prescribe another medication that it's usually used for lupus but it has side effect that can hurt your eyes, so I needed an eye exam before my Dr. will give me the prescription.
by then I was taking 40 milligrams of prednisone and my skin still bad and my stomach worse.
I star looking into in the internet and I found that many people had the same skin problem I had, but the reason was that I was getting worse because of the medication I was taken. I stared with cortisone cream that got over the counter to take care my dermatitis and within 2 years i was 100 time worse do to the steroid creams and the prednisone pills my Dr. had prescribed. I stopped taken the medication and take my chances without, since I was getting worse and the only solution was to stop treatment and start cleaning my body from the steroids.
It has being the 3 worse weeks of my life, but I know I'll get better soon…
I had been using topical steroids for many years to deal with inflammation in a very private area.
Topical steroids work. However, when you stop using them, strange rashes begin to appear and your skin doesn't feel like itself anymore. This is what happened to me and I had no idea what I was going through. All I know was that something was wrong and when I'd go to see a doctor about it, they'd want to give me another prescription for a stronger steroid. I knew better and was convinced that continued use would only make my situation worse. ITSAN walked me through the withdrawal process and described in perfect detail the symptoms I was experiencing. ITSAN consoles and informs with warmth and clarity. They provide a forum for better understanding, healing and recovery. My thoughts.
The information, pictures, and support provided by ITSAN showed us that my 11 year old son was not suffering from incurable eczema but from topical steroid-induced worsening of his eczema. We stopped topical steroids (TS,) went though 8 months of living hell that comes with the withdrawal process, and now at 14 months free of TS, he is gradually regaining his life again. ITSAN gave us hope and proof of healing from topical steroid addiction/withdrawal/red skin syndrome.
They are working diligently to educate the medical and non-medical community about TS so that thousands of children will not grow up to be another generation of red skinners.
I am suffering from TSA/TSW and itsan has been an integral part of my healing process. It provides otherwise unavailable and invaluable support. I am very grateful for them.

Facebook suggested I join the "Eczema and Topical Steroid Withdrawal (Red Skin Syndrome) Support Group" group recently, and that's how I found out about ITSAN and what I've been through my whole life. Thank you, ITSAN, for making sense out of my life. I quit topical steroids on my own out of curiosity because I'd read somewhere online that they were bad to use long-term because they would thin your skin. I had no idea what else they could do to your skin / that they were the cause for basically all my skin problems until the Facebook support I came across and ITSAN. This is a wonderful, informative, and supportive organization, and one that I can easily respect. Thank you, ITSAN!
From 2006-2012 I had been in search of a prognosis that properly fit my condition. My symptoms continued to get worse and worse until I became disabled in January of 2012 and still did not know what was wrong. I had so many random problems in addition to my skin that it seemed physicians overlooked the obvious. My mother was desperately researching online for months to find answers to my health issues. I was pretty convinced I was suffering from something grim and fatal. In March 2012, not long after www.itsan.org established an online web presence, my mother stumbled onto the www.itsan.org main page that listed a host of symptoms and potential health history that all Topical Steroid Addicted patients would share. As she read each symptom and sample history she knew she had the answer to my struggle. After reviewing the material from the link she shared with me to www.itsan.org, I was about 75% sure I was a TSA patient. Therefore without even a proper medical diagnosis I discontinued Topical Corticosteroid use in May of 2012. However I needed to see Dr. Rapaport, the physician who help itsan.org cofounder Kelly Palace, myself and talk to him to feel fully convinced I was making the right decision as I realized I was headed on a road that would be long and arduous to travel. On June 28, 2012 I spent an hour with Dr. Rapaport in his Beverly Hills, CA, office where I relayed my story and he examined me. He officially diagnosed me with TSA and prepared and encouraged me for what lay ahead. My mother and I spent so much time on the original Google Forum that www.itsan.org developed and monitored. There in the forum our fears were allayed when I suffered through different symptoms, bed ridden for 6 months and almost fully house bound for another 12 months. I also could interact with others dealing with the same symptoms and we provided research, support, comfort and encouragement. I am now entering my 28th month and am about 75% recovered, with most likely another 12 months left before reaching full cure. I owe my recovery to www.itsan.org. Had it not been for the efforts made by the team of volunteers and contributors backing www.itsan.org, I do not know that I would have found a "cure" yet or whether I ever would have. And although this may seem a bit in the dramatic side, I think the daily use if Steroids would have ultimately led to an early death for me. By the time I found itsan.org not only were the physicians prescribing daily schmeering of head to toe compounded topical steroids after bathing in bleach, I was also receiving intramuscular injections of corticosteroids and oral prescriptions of corticosteroids. Corticosteroids are responsible for the deterioration of eye, heart and bone health, as well as Adrenal issues. How long can someone survive regularly using such a medication? www.itsan.org has saved my life.

Thanks to ITSAN I am now aware of what caused me so much pain and suffering in the past. I was about to throw in the towel, my thought were suicidal, as I had tried EVERYTHING and my eczema just got worse over the years. THANK YOU ITSAN, you gave me hope and you gave me my life back!
ITSAN is a remarkable and life changing organisation. If only I had known about this wonderful organisation many years ago I would have been saved from severe skin atrophy, absolute hellish withdrawal symptoms and a life time of severe eczema. The medical profession realized when I reached five I had been over prescribed topical steroids, approximately 100% for five years from 3 months old which took away layers of my skin. I was taken off them and consequently suffered horrendous withdrawal symptoms, lasting until I was about 10 years old, not ideal for my primary school education. To add to this I suffered extreme bullying from school children which only compounded the withdrawal effects. I was put back on topical steroids in lower doses until my early 20's and told my skin thinning was due to continual scratching, I believed the medical professionals!! Due to the steroid damage I still suffer with severe eczema because my skin is very dry, tears easily and damages due to the slightest scratch. I do hope and pray the medical professionals start to understand the devastating effects these drugs have on people, both physically and physiologically. ITSAN is the most enlightening and God given organisation to help eczema sufferers in the last fifty years.
ITSAN is a wonderful organization. Their forums are full of such great information and support. None of my doctors have EVER talked about topical steroid addiction, and I've had eczema for 46 years and seen countless doctors. Even though the withdrawal is quite awful, with ITSAN I feel like I am on the right path. They are just SUCH a great resource!
I first found ITSAN when my eczema was unusually spreading and bright red. The information on the website really helped me understand what i was going through and what steroids were doing to my body. I use the forum every day to chat to people who are going through topical steroid withdrawal and when i am feeling down and sore, everyone on the forum helps me through it. To know other people are going through it to and being able to check if your symptom is normal. I am very grateful to ITSAN, thank you

This website acted like a life saving door that once I opened it, I finally felt like I had a future... I finally felt like maybe there was a cure to my eczema...stopping steroids!
Thank you to all who volunteer and donate to this cause!
Itsan was there when I was in the gutter and needed to know I wasn't alone. It is a great resource when you are stuck to the couch and want some clarity with what is happening to you. I don't feel like I have gained a ton from the information as I have a good doctor but, for those who don't have the same benefit as I, it is a great resource.
ITSAN has without a doubt saved my life. If i didn't discover this God sent organization i would still be poisoning my body with those horrible steroids. I can't say enough about the members and others who are so helpful and give so many sufferers hope and a future. I thank ITSAN from the bottom of my heart for giving me a future without steroids, and for letting us all know there is a cure!!
This organization is not trasnparent and if your views don't agree with theirs, you will either be banned or have your posts moderated. I'm sorry that I donated almost $400 to this sad thing called ITSAN. I also don't care for the way that you can't bash doctors on the forum. If you've been harmed, you should be able to but apparently ITSAN doesn't want that as they want to rub arms with the medical community. There's a new forum that has a hands-off approach and isn't closedminded like ITSAN is.

ITSAN 07/06/2014
Geanna, sorry you feel this way. Out of the 2,000+ people that have used the ITSAN forum, only 5 have been banned. We cannot have people bashing doctors or giving medical advice--these are the only reasons we have banned people so far. The transparency of ITSAN is clearly on the public record at GuideStar.org, where we list all of our finances. The amount of donations from the general public that we have received are very small. The majority of funding of ITSAN comes from its board members' donations.
If it had not been for ITSAN, I would have NEVER discovered the truth - that topical steroid creams are pure poison! I had 1 tiny, dime-sized spot of nummular eczema and, thanks to steroid creams, it spread all over my entire body within a matter of months! The dermatologists just continued to wag their heads and dole out more toxic creams and steroid shots, to no avail. Thank God I found info about ITSAN on Youtube one day!! Their information and moral support have been invaluable to me and I hope they succeed in waking up many sufferers, as well as dermatologists.
This is an awesome, wonderful organization!!!
I'm 51 and have had eczema since I was 3 1/2 months old. I was given cortisone shots until I was 12 years old! I've been on topical steroids or pedrnisone since. ITSAN.org saved my life!I use a cane or walker-I'm sure it's a side effect of steroids. I'm at my 8th day of withdrawal and it's just plain awful. I have cold shivers, hot and sweaty all at the same time. My skin itches 24/7, am red all over and my skin is flaking a lot. I see the light at the end of the tunnel thanks to itsan!
I didn't think ITSAN would help my serious eczema in anyway. I was wrong. I've been dealing with severe eczema throughout my life and couldn't find a cure, until I found ITSAN.
Not only does ITSAN provide me with great emotional support, and I have also benefited from members' unique experiences. I am still battling my eczema, but through ITSAN I have found several methods to relieve my symptoms. The members give me great hope that I will eventually heal.
Without ITSAN I won't know where I would be today. They provided lots of support and information about topical steroid withdrawal. The community there are awesome and they really dedicated their time and energy to support each other.
I would be lost without this website. Everytime I get a new symptom of TSW, someone there has already been through it. There is always somewhere on the forum there to answer questions. I feel so in control with ITSAN behind me, without it I don't know if I would have had the resolve to go through the withdrawal process.
Without the support and resources ITSAN provides, I don't know where or what I would be doing at this moment. I'm genuinely grateful.
Without this website I would still be suffering for a lifetime without a cure to the madness. Not only has it provided knowledge on this new condition, but it also provides emotional support to others who are suffering.
Thank you ITSAN for saving my life.
I have been using steroids for a year and a half due to mosquito bites from a holiday. The steroids got rid of the mosquito bites but I developed eczema instead, which had started spreading. Without ITSAN, I probably would have not stopped using the steroids. I am currently 4 months off steroids and already feel 80% healed. ITSAN has provided a wealth of information which has helped me immensely. Thank you ITSAN.
ITSAN is a great community that covers a major subject - topical steroid addiction and the SEVERE effects that affect a lot of those who use them, especially on cessation. Everyone is very supportive and offers great advice, I found it very useful ever since I got on their website, especially during my BAD days.
I wish all the best to ITSAN and their members!!!
Truth...ITSAN is a site that tells the truth about the dangers of topical steroids. I thank God that we have a place that documents TSW and allows for discussion so that we that are in this can be helped and respected. One day we will rejoice that TSW will be a thing of the past. That doctors and researchers will change the protocol . That steroid creams will not be doled out as a cure all with no conscious.
No words can really express how much ITSAN has helped our family. 18 years of hospitalizations, from All Children's, St. Pete FL , Scottish Rite at Children's Health Care of Atlanta and countless pediatric medical professionals throughout the Southeast. My husband and two children have been prescribed Topical Steroids since infancy. We were told since these products are FDA approved they were safe for everyday use. Not one physician or medical professional ever warn us of the dangers of topical steroids, nor did they ever mention the topical steroids were causing these chronic skin illnesses. In fact it was every medical professionals' preferred method of treatment. Little did we know these prescribed topical steroids were the sole contributor to the chronic and painful skin health of my beloved family. The quote below found on the ISTAN website began our healing journey.
"Addiction to (Topical) Steroids is a serious problem which reaches tragic proportions in some cases. It is more common than realized, sly and seductive and will be prevented only when the physician becomes as impressed with the capacity of the steroids to do harm as they are with their power to suppress, not cure, virtually any inflammatory disorder." -Dr. Albert M. Kligman and Dr. Peter J. Frosch, from their article called "Steroid Addiction", published in International Society of Topical Dermatology Journal, 1979
Thanks to ITSAN we found our current doctor, videos and a community of support! As of this review our family is on Day 21 of withdrawal by simply NOT using prescribed Topical Steroids. Currently they have NO infections, no sore, no lesions and the skin is beginning to heal for the first time ever. ITSAN has given us hope for our FUTURE. Thank you ITSAN for your faithfulness and perseverance. Thank you for facing the giants! Sincerely, The Fuller Family, Atlanta Georgia
ITSAN is the only organization I'm aware of that gives people information on the dangers of topical steroids. Many of the members have used steroids for years and are suffering horrific side effects. My son had adverse reactions to medications prescribed for eczema. ITSAN is working to spread information on such side effects. Without ITSAN, I'm not sure where we would be with my son. I'm greatful for the work and dedication of all people involved!
Without the help, support and advice offered by all the wonderful people in ITSAN I don't know how my son would have managed to get through the past 12 months. Extreme eczema can make you feel very isolated and this organisation has been a life-line to many and certainly to us as a family.
I found this website when I was trying to find answers to why I was having chronic skin problems (that were completely new to me) after using topical steroids for five months--as prescribed by a dermatologist. This is a wonderful website full of important information and tremendous support from people who are caring and knowledgeable. From what I can see, with very little money, they do a tremendous amount. This organization is well worth supporting in any way you can!
Have found encouragement, support, and information. This organization, and doctor Rapaport, have lead me in the direction to solve a 20 year battle that has puzzled my entire family.
I can't begin to express my enormous relief in discovering this website and realizing I will have normal skin one day. I had no idea TSA existed. I'm always in pain. Imagine paper cuts all over your hands. That's what I feel on a good day. The bad days are filled with intense unscratchable itching, blisters, fissures, elephant skin, deformed nails, crying and shame. I was on TS for 55 years; since I was an infant. Having just kicked the addiction 3 weeks ago, I'm at the beginning of withdrawal. I itch, I have edema, I developed new sore spots. Thank God for ITSAN to walk me through this ordeal. I will never use steroids again, not ever. THANK YOU!!
When your child is suffering and you tried everything that dr. told you and condition is getting worse, what would you do ,?You will spend hours and hours looking for answers , looking for help everywhere.I finally found the answer on ITSAN WEBSITE, tTOPICAL STEROID ADDDICTION, this is what made my daughter suffer, and she still is after 17 month off ts , she is not closed to be healed. she is getting better and every day we are getting closer to living normall life.Topical steroid, doctors, pharmacy took years of happy childhood from my baby, I hate to seee that dr.still do n ot recognize this as a problem. I do not receive any help from anybody besides itsan , this is really a great non p[rofit organisation!!!!!Please support us and stopped this cruel suffer for more kids and adults!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ITSAN has saved my 6 yr old from a lifetime of being shunted from one potent immunosuppressant to another, we are now on the road to her being free from all medical interventions within the next year. Their advice, support and campaigning is literally changing the course of people's lives. Before we found them we had no hope and now we can see a normal future for our little girl. Any parent will understand just how wonderful that it.
Hi, I found ITSAN when I was searching online for some answers when I was no longer having any effective results from using topical cortisone and in fact it was making me much worse, though I was being treated by a dermatologist. I had been suffering from eczema all my life but I knew this was different. I was not getting any relief, the treatment was getting progressively stronger and including immunosuppressant drugs and I was getting sicker and sicker with my overall general health and had skin that felt like it was burning a lot of the time and spreading over me from head to toe. I decided to look online and do some research to find some answers because the medical profession seemed to have me on a merry go round of cortisone with no other solution, even though I knew this was not like any eczema I had experienced in the past.
I discovered ITSAN which was central to my understanding that this was something many other people were experiencing and led me to realise that indeed the cortisone was causing me and many others a lot of grief. It gave me courage knowing there were and are others going through the same thing and that there is a solution - STOP THE CORTISONE. I had tried before but with horrendous results. ITSAN provided me information, resources, support and connecting links to others which was a life saver for me when I was at my wits end. It gave me the information that led me to understand the withdrawal process that would occur when stopping cortisone use so that I could stick at this time because I knew that the withdrawal symptoms were a normal healing reaction of the body and I would get over them in time, whereas with using cortisone it was a never ending cycle with little to no relief and no end date with things continuing getting worse.
Thankyou ITSAN for being an advocate and central body that acknowledges and educates me, others like me and the broader community on something the general medical community currently for the most part do not.

I did not know about this condition. All my life I had pretty decent skin, but one day I got a small rash on the top of my back. I was prescribed the steroids cream by the bucket. It help in the beginning but over about 17 months I found myself with the rash on my shoulders, then on my lower back then my chest. The condition was getting worse. Went to visit the dr,. was given a stronger dose of steroids. When I got home I began to do my own research. As I read all the things other members was experiencing, I knew that this is what I had. I stop using the steroid cream that very day. Now I believe that since I am African American that my symptoms was not as bad as others or it could be because I only used the cream for a little over a year. It has been about 5 months. But now I am getting better and I use coconut oil and Ceravue lotion 3 times a day. I bathe in bleach at least 2 a week. If this forum did not exist I believe that I would be still using this steroid cream. I am very grateful that I found this forum. How do you say thank you for knowledge which is priceless!
Aside from my own personal journey through hell, made so much easier by having the ability to connect to other people in the same boat as me and feel the comradere, the love, and after that, the courage to go on... Aside from that, it is thanks to ITSAN there are now 3 GPs in cape town that have actually altered their attitude towards topical steroids and now endeavor to prescribe differently. This means that ITSAN has literally changed not only my life, but the lives of every eczema patient stepping into any one of their practices. Why? Because they never believed me until ITSAN. I used to rant about the evils of cortisone and even my own husband, also a GP, didn't believe me - he just thought i was an exceptional case, that my skin was behaving differently to everyone else's. Only after he watched the 2 videos on the website and went onto the forum and saw that literally hundreds of people were experiencing the same symptoms as me, did he experience an attitude shift. I needed that website to validate my experience, to confirm my suspicions, and to present my own argument to the medical profession in a scientific way, shifting their attitudes. The more doctors, especially dermatologists, that we can get to check out this website, the more people like me will be spared from months, sometimes years of hell during the withdrawal process or even worse, a lifetime of being a slave to cortisone, not even knowing there is way out.
As a donor to this organization, I am pleased to see the strides they are making. And that they are helping so many people. It is rewarding to see that my donations are helping have a "life-changing" effect on people. Keep up the great work itsan.
Because of ITSAN, I am no longer shuffled from specialist to specialist, getting test after test. ITSAN saves money -- mine and the governments -- and my quality of life is improved since learning what I can do to help myself.
the change in our granddaughter's life is almost miraculous. many thanks to ITSAN for the support they gave to her parents in overcoming the "hell" they were all going through.
Review from Guidestar
I was a long-term user of topical steroids up until 2011, when I found the precursor website, which would \later become ITSAN. At the time little was known about topical steroid addiction and withdrawal, outside of a few obscure dermatology journal articles. Once I read the experiences of the website author and later president of ITSAN, I realized what was happening with my skin and stopped using the creams.
Once I quit, I endured about 18 months of misery - red burning, peeling, itching skin, somewhat akin to a burn patient. This experience is typical of cessation of topical steroids but very frightening if one does not understand what is happening. Fortunately ITSAN is now there to educate others on the dangers of such drugs and to help those enduring these withdrawal symptoms.
Gaining such benefit, I donated my time and money and later was asked to serve on the board.
Also, since I appear not able to comment on other reviews I will make note of poor reviews by "dan-d" and "andher." Dan-d joined the forum in 2013 and quickly proceeded to break forum rules. He wanted to use ITSAN as his own soapbox for his political opinions and other unrelated topics, many times generating posts longer than his review here. When reprimanded by ITSAN moderators he demonstrated erratic behavior and began trolling one moderator through private email. He was banned from the forum and clearly has an axe to grind.
"Andher" is a subscriber to his blog and apparently bought into his hostilities. Out of the blue this member of a few months who had posted a handful of times wrote a deeply personal scathing attack post against the president and the charity, which baffled us because we had no idea who it even was. She was banned for her personal attacks. Contrary to dan-d's claim that ITSAN quickly bans people, in fact he and andher are two of a total of three people banned from ITSAN in its history to date.
ITSAN and it's tireless volunteers has touched and changed the lives of so many. Thank you for bringing to the forefront an issue that so desperately needs to be addressed. Thank you for the education and support that you provide. Thank you for guiding so many on the road to recovery.
Review from Guidestar
I want to share my experience on the Itsan forum, a forum where most new suffering topical steroid addiction people find their way to, and end up relying on the veterans of the site for their information and support for topical steroid withdrawal. Itsan isn't just your average forum. It is a support forum for tsa/tsw sufferers, of whom most are extremely ill and are searching for answers. I joined this group in July 2013 and was banned from the group in October 2013. Itsan operates a private forum and if you don't abide by the rules they will ban you very quickly. The staff and veterans of this support group insulted, ridiculed, and marginalized me to the point where I believe most other members didn't even want to be seen communicating with me. I gave valuable information to this group and was called a "conspiracy theorist" for my views. I think the owner, staff, board members and vets there feel "threatened" by anyone with a little knowledge on healing. I know of several people who have been banned for their views on things like diets, moisturizer withdrawal, and the like. If your views aren't aligned with theirs watch out!
Itsan seems to be much more of a "hand holding" support forum than it is an informational support forum. I strongly believe people new to tsw are looking for information much more so than they are looking for kind words of encouragement. I also believe that access to all information is key in what these people need. Therein lies the problem. What I found so difficult to deal with being a member of the itsan forum was it's freedom of speech rules. When any forum, private or public, or any community for that matter, only allows certain viewpoints deemed appropriate by it's owners, or whoever is in control of said community, it creates a situation where only one side of the story is presented, instead of all sides. They limit information under the guise of not wanting to confuse people or set expectations in the minds of new tsw sufferers. Admirable, but they apparently don't realize they are already setting expectations by what they themselves say. But, they think they have all the answers and unfortunately they don't as has been proven over and over by many people such as myself.
In the itsan forum for example, members are basically told one side of the story by forum staff and "vets", mainly that tsw can not be sped up, so don't bother trying to speed it up via diet, meditation, moisturizer withdrawal, or anything else. The staff and "vets" there tell everyone the only way currently known to get through tsw is the passage of "time". Members are forbidden to disagree, or present their own opinions on this. They can not contradict what staff or the "vets" say or their posts are deleted. And if one continues they will be banned very quickly. Itsan staff and it's vets can make their claims with no real data to back them up, but newer members can't, unless they are the same views.
Itsan has a large influence over many newly suffering people due to it's increased exposure and support from people such as myself. I feel obligated to speak out since I supported this organization that I feel has unknowingly misled many suffering people. Since I did give financial support to this organization with the idea in mind they were a true support forum, I feel a certain responsibility to the people itsan has an influence over after discovering what the truth really is on speedier healing and the damaging effects moisturizing has on people going through tsw. In my opinion, Itsan has a moral obligation to do what is right by these people. Don't get me wrong, I believe Itsan vets, staff and owners are all well meaning people.
It seems to me that it is a dangerous thing for a support forum for extremely sick people to operate under the guidelines of a few people knowing what's best for all others, because if the few are wrong, many suffering people can be misled down the wrong path. And, that has the potential to cause much unnecessary pain and suffering. It would be like vets of the civil war saying the only way to take care of that leg is to saw it off with a hand saw when there is better information now on how to amputate legs than there was back then.
Early on I believed what the vets were saying about how we shouldn't bother trying to speed up the tsw process with diet, and how it's a waste of your time and money. Forget ideas about moisturizer withdrawal. Moisturize if it makes you comfortable. The only healer is the "passage of time" etc. etc. But, in short time I knew this was all wrong and attempted to try and effect policy change. However, Itsan's rules state you aren't allowed to contact forum staff in any effort to change policy. I tried anyway as I couldn't just stand by and watch this happen when I knew better ways to manage tsw symptoms than what they were advocating.
The belief system is the most powerful thing we have in healing. If we are led to believe that tsw can not be sped up, then that reality will surely manifest itself physically as sure as the sun will rise. If you disagree with my line of logic just look at the placebo effect.
It seems very apparent to me that tsw can indeed be sped up by a number of ways, as can most any healing crisis can. It would be much more supportive for itsan to allow this and other important information to be made available to the people and let them decide for themselves. At least don't constantly tell people that nothing can speed it up. That lends to hopelessness and despair in most people. It also influences people to feel like they have no power over their condition.
I truly expected itsan to make some much needed changes to it's forum guidelines in respect to this matter, and especially on moisturizing in light of the information available from myself, and then weeks later from very credible Japanese doctors. And, since it is much more supportive to tell people that yes, it's possible one can speed up tsw, but we just don't know how yet, than it is to tell them not to even bother trying. But, they weren't open to hearing others ideas even when I proved I was right about what I had said they still refused to be open to it. I felt I wasted my money and I was treated very poorly while there.
After they banned me I took my message on the road and after several months I managed to convince many people to stop moisturizing and they all found out I was indeed right about what I had said about it. While I was doing this, Itsan vets, board members and staff still did many things to try and discredit me even outside of their forum. All that did was create confusion for the people who were convinced to give it a try and delayed things. However, I am happy to say that now hundreds have done moisturizer withdrawal and all are very happy and have said so on my blog and on their own blogs. They are no longer in the hellish throes of tsw using moisturizers, but instead they are finishing their tsw in relative comfort and very glad they stopped moisturizing. In my opinion the Itsan organization is about as dysfunctional as it gets. But hey, that's just my opinion as is everything else I've said above. Dan
RESPONSE TO ITSAN COMMENT BELOW MY REVIEW: I wasn't aware of this site until today. Otherwise I would have posted this same exact review many months ago. All I did was copy from a post I did on my blog months ago and deleted a lot of text so the review wouldn't be too long. I stand by my review 100%. I only told a brief summary of my experience with Itsan in all honesty. Yes I was banned as I said in my review, after telling them how I felt about what they were doing to suffering people who knew no better in a very long private email. I hold no grudge though. This review is not an effort to garner donations to open a forum to compete with Itsan, or to "take them out" lol. And yes I would love to see someone open a different forum for tsa/tsw sufferers where information and ideas flow freely. I sincerely hope someone does for the sake of all the new tsa/tsw sufferers that have yet to come. I do not give medical advice, and I have never charged anyone a penny for advice. Itsan's comments below reveal exactly who they really are for those astute enough to read between the lines.

ITSAN 04/18/2014
Note about this reviewer: He was banned from ITSAN for flagrant misbehavior in our support forum. He now obviously holds a grudge and misrepresents his interaction with ITSAN. He is clearly giving medical advice that is not something ITSAN endorses. At one point he was charging over $100 per hour to advise people. He is trying to open his own forum, and gather donations for himself. So he is trying to take ITSAN out as a competitor. Please keep that in mind if you read this review.
I went through a cycle of topical steroid withdrawal without knowing what it was at the time. I was terrified, because I went through hell without knowing why and how long etc. My doctor rebuked me for staying in the sun too long (i.e. he was obviously unaware of what was going on). I was also unable to explain to people what was going on with me. They looked at me as if I was an attention seeker. When I read the information on this website, I got the greatest relief, because the mystery of my suffering was finally solved. To say that I am grateful to the creators of this website, does not do them justice. I am very, very, very, very ....... thankful to them.
ITSAN does two things well: informing people of what their skin condition is and how to fix it, that is, "you have an addiction to your medication, stop using it, here's how"; and existing as a support group. Neither of which require the large sums of money they rudely insist they require, and that people naively donate to uncertain avail.
Until today the organization did not make transparent what they used the money for. This changed yesterday, after I posted a harsh criticism of this and other shortcomings on their forum, for which I was immediately IP banned from reading the site, let alone being able to post and respond to people. (I anticipated this. I'm not the first person to be banned for a petty reason.) Only today have more detailed accounts been made available on Guidestar of how money is being used, but, inconveniently enough, you must create an account to view it, and when you do the reports offered are insufficient and vague. Oddly, their transparency ratings were actually stellar for months before this point, but this can easily be explained by the emotional influence the organization has over its supporters - which I'll get to later - when they solicit them for positive ratings on 3rd party sites.
Otherwise, the organization has a history of offering insultingly poor reasons, if any, for needing money, such as:
~ "for forum maintenance" (which at the time was a FREE google group that was poorly maintained);
~ allusions to projects that don't exist, such as a "documentary" (no plan or production company was named, nor did it ever materialize), and "funding for research" (by whom and on what specifically?);
~ projects that are a poor use of money (such as trips for the board members to travel to eczema groups and hand out business cards, and poor quality teleconferences that very few would listen to, in an era when Skype is free);
~ "personally responding to your emails and phone calls" (yeah, that should be free if we don't also get an autograph, Ms. President);
~ bookkeeping and legal services (at the same time it says its funds are extremely low, such that they could probably do their bookkeeping themselves if any need be - it be not, and neither be legal services);
~ etc.
This list was up in one form or another for over a year, but no record has ever been offered of how funds have been used to these ends. Today, these reasons are no longer available for viewing on the donate page, and there was no attempt at offering an explanation for their abandonment.
Instead, when donations are solicited, they are routinely promoted as expected, wholly-deserved demonstrations of gratitude, with express astonishment that they aren't already showered in alms. Those who do not donate are implicated or explicitly described as ungrateful and parasitic. This guilt-tripping has been the standard mode of solicitation for several years.
What ITSAN did successfully for me is exist as an *informative website*, although it was only 10% of that which convinced me that I had the condition it was promoting. The other 90% was the unaffiliated blogs of similar people, and, more importantly, my own experience of years of skin problems, without which I would have immediately written off ITSAN as a bogus website, given its rather dubious presentation of the information that convinced me. I am not alone in this sentiment. Perhaps it was four years ago, but today, ITSAN is no longer the best or only source for information on topical steroid withdrawal.
ITSAN was co-founded by the current president and Dr. X (lol can't post proper names here) the far more important of the two being the latter, a veritable expert on steroid addiction in and out, having conducted research and successfully treated thousands of patients, and it was from him that came the informative content that gave and continues to give the website its original power. He has since cut his affiliation with the group, and wisely so, but it continues to benefit from his expertise.
As an *organization*, ITSAN has done very little extra, the most significant, making a forum available on which other patients can share their experience. Ninety percent of the value of a discussion forum, it cannot be argued, comes from the participants in the discussion, NOT from the people administrating it. In other words, the the useful aspects of the forum are not ITSAN original, and any single individual with the capital to start a simple vBulletin forum could do as well as them. As forum administrators ITSAN, an entire team of people, has done the minimum required while relying on donations from the participants. The forum itself is very poorly managed, but it is the only one that exists, and thus, it is where the people go.
ITSAN is primarily an emotionally fueled organization. Not information, not reason, not progress, not profit. Emotion is the major currency, that is clear from the way information is presented on the website, the rhetoric the administration uses to communicate its "need" for funds, the way it chooses to censor valuable information on the forum, and its general manner. Its supporters defend criticisms to the organization the way one defends one's mother. Their 501(c)(3) tax exemption is more honestly described as religious.
Emotion is by and large what is exchanged between ITSAN and those who support it as a brand and a name. Understandably, TSW is a very emotional process, and can cripple already-weak faculties of judgment. These people are very strongly invested in the forum as a source of emotional support, and seem to be persuaded by ITSAN that a donation functions as an expression of gratitude, rather than an investment in the promotion of an agenda. This agenda ought to be very simple: to promote awareness of topical steroid addiction, and to support those already aware.
I'm afraid people are still misguided in thinking they have to pay an "official" to do these things for them, instead of doing it themselves. Coincidentally, ITSAN has long promoted, and invested much of its efforts in, its superficial hallmarks of legitimacy, in overwrought acronyms, titles like President and CEO, "professionally published" children's books, crystal trophies, business cards, "professional videos", and the like, none of which can hold up its trappings in substance. Do not mistake this for meaning that they are a malicious, deliberately deceptive enterprise. I feel they absolutely believe in said trappings, and would buy into them from any other enterprise that touted the same. This does not mean anyone else should.
All this is to say that those who donate to ITSAN are under the mistaken impression that ITSAN is doing something that they cannot, as individuals, do themselves. You can start your own forum, you can promote others' blogs, you can share information related to TSA, you can host Skype teleconferences, you can contact Drs. Rapaport and Fukaya, you can start a facebook group, you can start a support group, you can make an informative video, you can publish a book, contact local news, write your own news article, and come up with your own official titles and banners and acronyms to decorate, and it all takes little effort and, except for the forum, costs next to nothing. Welcome to 2014.
This is not to say they don't have the best intentions, but money should not be blindly flung at an organization that is well-intentioned but incompetent. An organization, in the end, is just a group of people with a name. Yes, they're trying hard, but they're not savvy or smart enough, volunteer or not, for that work to pay off efficiently, let alone use money effectively.
I invite anyone unfamiliar with ITSAN to take a look at the forum, the website, the former google group, and affiliated resources, to substantiate my descriptions above. (Before they're all made unavailable for viewing, of course.)

Response to comment: The only "falsehood" in my review is that the trophy is actually acrylic. Pardon me. Otherwise, my review stands exactly as it is, and this is the last update I will make to it. Proof for my description of the former donation page can be viewed with the Wayback Machine. It was never my intention to make suggestions for improvement to ITSAN. Whether or not you welcome them anyway - that is, whether you care to improve for your own sake - is your concern, not mine. I made this explicit in the post I was banned for, a post that was well deserved for your shameless solicitation tactics and your failure to show anything for your donations other than what can be achieved for free. No one needs you. You need them. Your ability to make them believe otherwise is your only talent. Oh, and thank god my email is unrecognizable.

ITSAN 04/18/2014
Your "review" is full of falsehoods. Out of 75 reviews here yours is the only non-5-star review. You hide behind a fake name and unrecognizable email and trash a 2 year old organization run by all volunteers working to improve it daily. You are mistaken about many things. First, running a non-profit which even at a small size takes money. Second, our volunteer of the year awards are acrylic, not crystal (and will be donated this year). Also, we do not have a "CEO" title anywhere in ITSAN, as we are all volunteers. And our finances were online for the last year on Guidestar, NOT just made available yesterday because you posted a spiteful letter to us. Besides supporting people online we raise awareness of TSA and we need to travel to several large Dermatology conferences annually, which takes lots of money, hence our recent funds drive. We appreciate your suggestion to improve ITSAN, really. And we would welcome them if you would contact us directly, letting us know who you really are and not posting venomous attacks on us in public forums. You were banned from our forum for breaking forum rules by personally attacking members of our board. Thank you for your suggestions. --An ITSAN Volunteer
For years I struggled with what dermatologists told me was "full body, spreading eczema." I would lost sleep and struggle to stay awake at work. I would claw at my skin. My face would become beet red and burn like a horrible sunburn.
I felt hopeless and alone.
Then one sleepless night I found ITSAN. My life has been fundamentally altered for the better.
ITSAN does great work.
I have personally donated to ITSAN and will continue to contribute financially in some form for the years to come.
Without ITSAN, I would not be on my road to recovery. I was desperate for an answer and ITSAN had it. I'm so glad to know I'm not alone on this crazy journey and that I'm able to share thoughts and opinions as well as read others'.
The support and information our family has received from the other members on the forum, and the founding TSW warriors is beyond compare. It is so difficult to accurately communicate the gratitude I have for being a part of this community, I wish I could provide a rating higher than 5 stars! ITSAN saved our daughter's life, by giving us answers we could not find anywhere else, along with research and evidence to support all of the questions we had about TSA and TSW.
Because it is so misunderstood, going through TSW is painfully isolated and lonely. The ITSAN forum is the light at the end of the tunnel, beckoning us all home and giving us the strength and courage we need to conquer the insanity and heal. I shudder to think where we would be without it.
This organization helped me through the most challenging, darkest hours of my life. I don't know how I would have made it through the healing process without the support of the founders and members, as well as the resources this network provides.
Simply put, ITSAN saves lives. Words cannot express the gratitude I feel towards those who created the organization and website. I had no idea topical steroid addiction was the core reason for so many of my health issues throughout over 30 years of my life, until I found the organization's website. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for the amazing work they have done to help SO MANY people around the world. I know that one day the medical community will recognize this condition and have a much deeper respect for the affects of topical steroids because of this organization.
ITSAN is fantastic. No doubt about it. I went through eleven months of hellnot knowing what was wrong with me, why doctors weren't listening to me and I thought that I was going to die. The day that I found ITSAN's website changed everything. I suddenly saw all of these pictures of people that looked just like me. Without having found ITSAN I hate to think were I would be by now but it would be very likely to be back on topical steroids.
Without ITSAN and the research of some great Doctors includding Dr Rappaport and Fukaya, the information on Topical steroid addiction would not be accessible, when I was hospitalised all doctors ridiculed me for even saying it was the creams and for saying it felt like my body was addicted, but ITSAN helped me find support from thousands of others going through this, some healed, and more and more only just starting this terrible journey. Its about time the medical community started doing more to stop this from happening. Far too quick to treat people with a quick solution rather than looking into the reasons and background as to why this is happening.
I wish I had found ITSAN earlier because then I wouldn't have gone through the pain I went through. During my most dreadful and doubtful days, ITSAN gave me the courage to finally give up on steroids and made me see that my eczema might be actually caused by steroids instead. During my worst flares, I wanted to give up and just take the prednisone which my derm had prescribed because my skin was constantly oozy and crusty and I did not sleep much during those few months but having seen so many people in ITSAN going through and making it in the end, I pushed on and finally made it through myself as well. I wouldn't say that I am cured 100% but at least I am cured 99% with occasional very very very mild flares. Since then, I have been warning others about the excessive use of steroids and showing them ITSAN so they will have a better understanding.
I honestly feel ITSAN saved my daughter's life and is helping me in the struggle we face everyday. I can't say enough about how grateful I am that I found ITSAN. The information and support the website provides are invaluable. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
my hub is currently suffering from TSA.
we are both physicians, but still have gotten amazing support from ITSAN.
if it weren't for the support system of ITSAN and the amazing members and stories, i'm not sure Raj would be here, honestly.
we are both appreciative of joey, and the other members of the board.
i really hope the words spreads VERY soon to my medical community about this unbelievable condition.
i still think every day how this could happen, and it has definitely helped me practice medicine differently.
thanks to all of you for being there for him and everyone else!
If it wasn't for ITSAN, I would have committed suicide.
I had been driven insane about my skin's condition. From birth to the present, my skin always had some disorder. It was always dry, cracked and itchy. It was bearable, then it reached a point where the prescription creams were not working. Only increases in the potency of the topical corticosteroids would solve my burning and itching sensation.
I thought I was alone, some freak anomaly of the human genome. I thought my life was going to be like this forever. Completely intolerable of the warmth and sun, stinging during each shower, itching and scratching non stop all over my body continually throughout the day - and of course, attempting to tolerate the ripped flesh and raw skin caused by excessive itching.
Out of desperation, I searched up my symptoms. I searched for anything that could lead me to understand this condition. Even if I were the 1 in 1,000,000 - there would be at least a few thousand cases like me. I found it, and it turns out, my condition is more common than I initially thought. Many people suffered, but concealed their problems with ever increasing potency of Topical Steroids.
I found blogs, I found pictures, I found information and they all had one thing in common, they referred to itsan as having all the answers. Initially I was skeptical, many people in the past have referred such miracles and cure-it-all to me, but none worked.
ITSAN is not a cure, not a cream, but information to explain what we are enduring, why, the symptoms, process and is a forum to rant and ask questions. It is truly a life saver. Just when I thought my life would just lead down a dark tunnel, which would simply mean torture to the ends of my days, death was the only way out - I had found ITSAN.
Without this organisation, the collation of its information and active participation of its founders - sufferers around the world would not be able to end their cycle of dependency upon topical steroid creams, thus, continuing down their dark tunnel of depression, despair, pain and suffering.
One night I was sat at home fed up and feeling down because my skin was flaring yet again and I couldnt punpoint why that was the most frustrating thing, ten years after having a pregnancy rash (treated with steroids) I was still suffering even though allergy tests shown no allergies, then in my search page itsan.org come up and I have a look and couldn't believe what I was reading but it all made sense at last I knew what was wrong I was addicted to the very cream I had been using I joined up and read through the posts saw the pics and left no doubt what so ever as to wether it applied to me it 100 % did. Withdrawal isnt easy but with the support, advice and tips you get from the itsan.org site it makes it mor bearable. Its just such ashame its not more widely supported and that more people are going through this and not realising the problem because of this. Itsan.org needs all the help it can get to spread the word x thank you itsan for all your helpx
ITSAN really deserves more than 5 stars, as the organization to our family means more than I could every write here. Because of ITSAN, its board members and an entire community of fellow sufferers, we received answers where the medical industry and more than 30 doctors in three extended hospital stays failed us. Because of ITSAN, we could breathe again and we have watched life come back into our son. Without this wonderful organization. we would still be sinking in the unknown and may have even lost our precious son, as he was in renal failure last year because of the spiral of his health due to the use of topical steroids. WE LOVE ITSAN! This network of wonderful people have been an answer to prayer in our lives!

ITSAN is the reason that I have my health back. Without the selfless actions of these individuals, I would still be searching for a cure to lifelong, debilitating eczema. The information and support that this organization freely offers saves so many people all over the world, myself included. I have been steroid free for over 2 years now after finding ITSAN (at that point it was still Addictedskin.com) and although the process has been very difficult, my health has never been better. The volunteers at ITSAN give so much of themselves, with the sole intention to stop others from suffering. ITSAN truly "pays it forward."
I am a volunteer and Board Member of www.itsan.org. My wife, Kelly Palace, began to have serious health problems due to her 40 years of using topical steroids for what the doctors called 'incurable eczema.' Well, we searched high and low for many months until we finally stumbled upon Dr. Marvin Rapaport's research in California based on his clinical practice. Dr. Rapaport's findings proved that when long-term topical steroid eczema patients completely stopped using these insidious creams, the patients would flare and their skin would become red, oozy and very painful.... eventually, however, these suffers became cured and their skin healed! This gave Kelly and me hope that she too would heal! We decided to start www.itsan.org in order to spread the word around the world so that folks globally would be able to cure themselves too by simply practicing complete topical steroid cessation. We now have a quickly growing charity, www.itsan.org, that is helping people 24/7/365! It feels so good to help others in this fashion! We receive letters, phone calls, emails, text messages, etc daily from many people that have also stumbled upon www.itsan.org and therewith helped themselves, their spouses, children, parents, friends, etc.... please help spread the word so that we can preclude more people from suffering from topical steroid addiction and withdrawal by making a donation today at www.itsan.org! Thank you in advance!
Itsan gave my daughter her life back! She was addicted to topical steroids and they stopped working for her. Oral steroids didn't work either. Her face was swollen all of the time, she had eye issues, and more skin and health issues than I care to list. When she stopped steroids she went through a horrible withdrawal period and the only support we had was this organization. Now she is in her 11th month off of steroids and she is doing so much better than she ever has on them and she has her life back! I cannot express how much gratitude I have for this organization! They saved my child's life and gave me knowledge and support to get through the worst of it! She is so much better now and is able to go to school and will start college in the fall!!

ITSAN saved my sanity and my life when I was suffering from out-of-control skin and internal health issues due to steroid over-use. In October, 2011, I stopped using the topical steroids I had been putting on my skin for many years. I was horrified to find my skin going crazy with redness, itching, pain and peeling. I also felt hot and cold alternately and I couldn't sleep. I was going crazy. I found Kelly Palace's website addictedskin.com (now replaced by ITSAN.org) and Joey Brown's facebook page. I was blown away! It was obvious that what I was suffering from was Red Skin Syndrome a.k.a. Topical Steroid Addiction/Withdrawal. The forum that Kelly had set up with her website was the only thing that got me through that first horrible year, sharing with other sufferers and supporting each other emotionally. I watched the group grow from 50 people to 100's of members and I was there when ITSAN was first created by this awesome group of volunteers. After a while, I felt so strongly about the work that the group was doing that I became a board member. I'm now proud to be part of an organization that helps so many people. I've watched many, many people go from terrible suffering to healthy skin and back to normal life, STEROID-FREE. We haven't solved the problem of eczema yet, but we are teaching 100's of people about the dangers of over-use of steroids. So many people think they have out-of-control eczema, when actually their skin is reacting to steroid addiction. I am now almost 100% back to normal skin, enjoying a healthy, active life, and feeling totally thrilled that I have been completely off steroids since October, 2011. I was even able to get off my asthma steroid inhalers (to be done with caution!) and my nasal inhalers. The people involved in ITSAN, both board members, volunteers and general members, are the most loving, caring group of people I've ever known. I now have friends all over the world who I feel sincerely care about me and my health, as I care about them. The board members are incredibly hard-working, dedicated volunteers who receive nothing in return other than the satisfaction of knowing they're helping others to help themselves. I have nothing but praise for the mission, caring & integrity of this group.
I don't even know where to begin. ITSAN was an absolute life saver for my daughter who was only 3 1/2 years old at the time we came across Kelly Palace's story. We were desperate for help and at a loss in how to help our daughter after having seen umpteen doctors only to be told that we were dealing with 'out of control eczema' -- offered more topical steroids, sent on our way feeling more depressed and hopeless. After coming across ITSAN, we learned that our daughter was suffering from steroid induced eczema, spreading skin rashes made worse by the steroid creams we were applying to her skin on a daily basis (erroneously reassured by doctors it was safe to do and necessary to control the eczema) All the doctors we saw prior to ITSAN were wrong!
ITSAN was a beacon of light for our family, gave us hope that the nightmare would end. They educated us on topical steroid addiction and withdrawal. They were there to support us through the entire withdrawal process and helped us emerge from the darkness we were living in. They gave us hope! Similar to others, prior to learning about TSA, we were desperate and paranoid about everything my daughter ate, touched, came in contact with-- not knowing what was the trigger for her skin -- what was making her skin worse.
ITSAN had the answer and changed our life, my daughter's forever. We are forever grateful to the organization that gave my daughter a second chance at living life. Our daughter has now been steroid free for almost 3 years and is finishing up her Kindergarten year like every other normal 6 year old, no longer a prisoner in her own skin!
ITSAN provides support, education, and resources to individuals and families suffering from steroid induced eczema. They help to raise awareness about this painful condition. The support forum was a Godsend and the only reason we made it through the withdrawal process somewhat sane. For the first time, we were not alone. There were others going through the same thing and provided helpful tips, personal experiences, before and after pictures, and encouragement. I don't know where we would be today without ITSAN. We are eternally thankful and grateful for everything this organization did for us: http://scratchymonster.blogspot.com/
I have donated to, volunteered for, and accepted support from ITSAN for the past year. ITSAN provides an essential service to families and individuals embarking on withdrawal from topical steroid addiction. My son was 3yo when I found ITSAN at 2:30AM, sitting up with him yet again while he scratched away at the skin that was supposed to heal from the doctors' medications that had never fully worked, then quit working outright and made the problem worse. We found Dr. Rapaport and was able to get this knowledgeable professional working with us and our doctors at home in CO. The biggest thing for me was the emotional support as new symptoms appeared, flares came and went, and finally progress was made. My son is 85% clear now, which we have much of our lives back that had been lost. It is an arduous journey. Think drug/alcohol recovery x5 because of lack of support from the medical community. ITSAN saves lives daily. My son is about to turn 4yo, and I am so grateful he will be able to live a healthy, itch free life soon. He is recovering his growth that was stunted due to the topical steroid prescriptions, and that is just amazing.

This is a great online resource for spreading awareness of tsw. As a person suffering from tsw I am so happy I stumble upon the ITSAN community because it gave me hope on my recovery. I have a much brighter outlook on my life and hope that ITSAN continues to grow and help others who suffer as well.

I was at my wits end when my eczema was just getting worse despite using prescribed steroid creams more and more. I came across the Itsan Website by searching the internet. I have been steroid free since the middle of December 2013. I am prepared for the battle but it is totally exhausting ridding my body of the poisons I feel are inside me. Thank goodness the Itsan Website it makes me realize I'm not alone in my suffering and that it will get better eventually.
thank you for your continued amazing work.

Kelly Palace and ITSAN literally rescued me from potential heavier steroids like prednisone after my 40+ years of topical steroid use on my skin quit working. I found the Addicted Skin website one night after desperate prayer and know that God led me to her and Dr. Rapaport's informative research on Red Skin Syndrome. Thank God!
I now spend much time helping others and hope to see the days of steroid overuse a thing of the past as this is one hellish withdrawal ride no one, especially children should have to endure. Thank you ITSAN! :)
ITSAN is a wonderful organization that provides much-needed support to individuals in desperate situations.

I don't even want to know where I would be had I not found ITSAN in early fall 2013. Like many others, I was at a loss for my "out of control eczema". I was desperate & paranoid about everything I ate, touched, came in contact with, etc - not knowing what was making my skin worse & worse. After finding some blogs of people that were going through TSW, I knew right away what my problem was. Every blogger mentioned ITSAN & the rest is history.
ITSAN has been a remarkable support system. It is so comforting knowing there are others out there that understand completely what I am going through & offer support, helpful tips, improvement pictures & encouragement. I don't know where I would be today without ITSAN. They saved me. I can't thank everyone enough.
I recently discovered the itsan site via a friend and knew straight away that I had steroid induced eczema. I am so glad I found this website and even though going cold turkey is so hard and difficult I am now seeing major improvements. If I had not found this site I would not have known what was wrong we me and why my skin was getting worse. I have had all the initial symptoms and all the into is on the site. Thank you itsan and i know in a few months time I will have normal skin.
Our son has struggle with eczema his whole life - we have gone from steroid cream to steroid cream, without any improvements. Since finding ITSAN we have hope that he can recover. There is plenty of support for those going through Topical Steroid Withdrawal. We hope they continue with their important work so we can prevent others going through the same hell as my son.

For 4 years my husband, now 78 years old, has suffered a skin malady. We have tried to trace the origin but no one could give us a definite diagnosis. He was told it was 'winter itch', then a dermatologist told him it looked like 'some kind of bite'. Then he was treated for scabies - all the treatments included topical steroids as well as some other potent drugs. During the time since then he has seen 5 dermatologists, 2 allergists, 2 naturopaths, an arthritis clinic, National Jewish Hospital and tried acupuncture. With one or two exceptions, they all told him to continue the topical steroids.
We spent many hours on the internet trying to find our own answer and finally, last spring, through ITSAN, we found pictures of red skin, thick and ugly, that looked forever like what he was dealing with. And we found Dr. Rapaport. At that particular time my husband had been scheduled - we already had our plane tickets - to go to Mayo's in Rochester, MN. But he was in such great misery he simply could not have made the trip to MN, or California for that matter. So I sent pictures to Dr. Rapaport and he confirmed that Bill was suffering Red Skin Syndrome. And, he prepared us for the long recovery time after completely stopping steroids.
It has not been an easy 10 months, there were many times we faltered, unsure we were taking the right path, but with the support of others connected to ITSAN we can see (or at least hope for) a light at the end of this long tunnel. I can only thank Heaven that ITSAN had that site and we were able to finally have hope that he may again have some good years left.

This organization has saved many of us who have uncontrollable eczema caused by topical steroids, the cream used to treat eczema itself. It is amazing, full of support through this tough journey to become healthy and have normal skin again. I can't thank itsan enough for being here, literally changing our lives.
I thank my lucky stars for Itsan. After using over the counter cortisone irresponsibly for over a year, (wih the blessing of my doctor), I could not understand why I would get worse whenever I tried to get off it. Itsan was so informative. Its members were so supportive and reading their stories got me through so many dark days. Thank you, thank you, thank you! People, never forget the power of numbers. Keep your attention focused on this topic and spread the word!
I have eczema and after reading a number of posts and articles I am now free of eczema for 2 months. Will never use topical steroids again. Thanks to ITSAN

My college age daughter is on day 48 of TSW. The only way we have been able to forge ahead is thanks to the excellent ITSAN information provided by Dr Rappaport, along with the encouraging testimonies of those who have blazed this healing trail. We tried radical diets, expensive creams, trigger eliminations, and several supplements. My daughter was at the end of her rope when eczema blogs pointed us to the ITSAN site. When we saw Dr Rappaport's interview we knew our searching was over, and we knew that with time she will heal. I can honestly say that the information we've learned here has been life changing. I will be forever grateful for the solid medical information and promise of healing ITSAN provides.

My daughter has struggled with an ever worsening eczema for several years. We have been to many doctors and found no answers. I was lead to the ITSAN and for the first time found an answer to her awful condition. Not only did they have the facts about topical steroid withdrawal, they also had a support network in place, which is exactly what we needed. This organization has been a life-changing one for us and we are so thankful for their commitment to people suffering with TSW.

ITSAN has provided valuable information on topical steroid withdrawal. I had no idea such symptoms exist until I personally experienced it. At the time, I was horrified with the condition and medical doctor cannot provide any help. I was under tremendous distress. This condition had almost turned my life to halt. With the great forum and support group, I am now able to face it and accept it. Unlike other forums which tend to sell products, it is well managed and I find genuine comments and no spam. A safe environment to share and to find reliable information.
My son found this site when he was desperately searching for answers to his constant skin problems. He has been on steroid creams since he was a young child, and now in his early 20's , his skin was getting worse and worse. We saw doctors, dermatologists, no one could help. He began to read Red Skin Syndrome and steroid addiction online. The testimonials he read gave him the courage to go off steroids completely. He has been off for a year and 3 months, and his skin is so beautiful. I am so grateful for this site and their insistence that folks pay attention to what is happening with steroids. So many people are suffering, ashamed of their skin, in pain. It is criminal. Thank you ITSAN you are doing important and necessary work.
I found this organization when I was in such dire need for answers after reaching to the point where my topical steroids weren't working for my diagnosed eczema anymore. The doctors wanted to prescribe me either oral steroids or methotrexate (low dose chemotherapy). Internally I knew something wasn't right. Imagine my relief and surprise when I found ITSAN only to realize my condition could have been steroid induced!
I began the mental preparation for about 3 months learning everything I possibly could with the scientific research articles provided and teleconference files with Dr. Marvin Rappaport who has cured hundreds of people with this condition.
In Jan 2012 I stopped all my topical steroids and began the horrific journey of withdrawal, having to leave school and work for a period of time due to what my skin and general health was going through, Without having the support of community members from ITSAN who have already been through this through connecting with them from all around the world through the forums, I don't think I would have had the courage and strength to get through my healing and withdrawal journey.
I am now thankfully and humbly excited to report at 14 months my skin has healed so much and looks better than even when it was on topical steroids! I am certain I will be fully healed eczema free in the near future.
We need grass-root initiatives like this to help spread the word and bring more awareness to such an under recognized condition. Even medical doctors are unaware of this phenomenon regardless of the immense amount of research and medical literature ITSAN has been able to gather that talks about steroid addiction!
I have been given a second chance of living my life to its full potential and ITSAN has provided me the hope, support and information I needed in order to help me heal and re-contribute back to society.

Finding this group on the internet was a stroke of luck for me. I was suffering with an outbreak of atopic dermatitis far worse than anything I had ever experienced. I searched the internet for red skin and steroid cream addiction and there I found ITSAN, a group of caring and kind individuals who were going through the same thing. They offered advice, information, support, and most of all hope that this would be healed someday. I'm not there yet, but joining ITSAN has made the journey more bearable.

As the caregiver of a child going through topical steroid withdrawal, this organization has been immensely helpful. They offer tips for comfort, they offer moral support, they offer an opportunity to learn from others who are on the same unfortunate journey. Without the information and support received from this organization I don't know how we would manage.

For most of my life, I struggled with increasingly worse eczema -- what started as a few patches on my hands as a child had spread into a full-body rash by the time I was in college. The doctors I saw just said it was "genetic" and there was nothing I could do except use topical steroids. ITSAN's website on topical steroid addiction provided a source of information I wasn't able to find elsewhere. I was able to read through all of the relevant medical research from many different journals in one place and for free. When I made the decision to go off topical steroids, I also found ITSAN to be a great source of community and comfort. Topical steroid withdrawal is a very difficult, painful, long, itchy time and ITSAN allowed me to connect to others around the world who were going through the same thing. Without ITSAN, I would have never heard of topical steroid addiction and would still have an increasingly spreading terribly rash for seemingly no reason. I have donated to this organization and I would definitely recommend it to others.

My partner suffered from what doctors called 'eczema' for over 12 years. He was given increasingly potent doses of cortisone ointments which never controlled the problem. It actually kept getting worse and worse. We found ITSAN by googling and that discovery changed his life. He went through the grueling withdrawal from the topical steroids, and wouldn't have made it if not for the support we found through ITSAN. I, as his caretaker, was also supported by being able to connect with others going through this. I am very grateful for ITSAN. Today, my partner has nearly normal skin and has resumed a regular life, after being restricted from that for the years he was on steroids, and the increasing side effects of those drugs.

I am so grateful to ITSAN for making my daughter and I aware of Topical Steroid Addiction and for their work in increasing awareness of the damage topical steroids can do to our bodies, both externally and internally. She is now going through a withdrawal period from the steroids and for the first time, she feels she will be free of her skin problems for the rest of her life and I am so grateful to ITSAN for that.
This website (and organization) has been a godsend for me. It has helped me to discover the reason for years of suffering with skin issues. Not only is it highly informative, but the people on the forum are extremely hands on. There is always someone there to help answer questions and give insightful information. My son suffered with a horrendous withdrawal from steroids, and without the support of ITSAN I am not sure where we would be. So grateful to them.
My son was on topical steroids until I came across ITSAN. It was a vicious cycle of using the steroid, the eczema clearing up, a few days later it coming back with a vengeance, and then going back to using the steroids again. After reading information from ITSAN, we stopped using the topical steroid. My son went through withdrawal symptoms, but after a few months, he's much better than he was when using the steroids! We are on the path to recovery!!
This charity offers support to those affected by steroid addiction. If it wasn't for itsan, I would still be dependent on steroid creams for my eczema,

ITSAN saved my son's life. He was on an escalating potency and amount of topicals for eczema and was told next he would be given oral and systemic steriods. His eczema kept getting worse. This went on for years! Aren't steroids only supposed to be used for weeks?! Then we did as the ITSAN resource articles explain and now my son's skin is the best it has ever been. Thank you itsan!!

ITSAN 03/15/2016 ITSAN thanks you Amy for a fair and honest review. We in no way want conflict with the supporters of Dr. Aron and never talk down, troll or flame this group. Our leadership also never advises anyone to stop topical steroid or condemn them for using it. We share our stories and let them make that decision on their own. What the support group member say or do is out of our total control but we do have rules and admins, do their best to monitor behavior in them. We understand the agony of topical steroid withdrawal, not everyone get's addicted and are teaming up with doctors from around the world to find better methods of comfort for those in the thick of it. A big concern derms, doctors and ITSAN has with the Dr. Aron method of treating children with eczema is the fact that steroids are applied 6 times a day for 6 months and then used as maintenance for indefinitely and if any children get off the treatment, it is not well known. Eczema was never classified as a lifelong disease to be controlled with corticosteroids as they have too many well-documented side-effects. The other concern is the use of antibiotics with the steroids which is causing health problems with many in the world in causing super-bug resistance. India just banned many of these combo medications. "Doctors and health experts say the spread and misuse of antibiotic combinations may be contributing to antibiotic resistance in India. Some superbugs, which are strains of bacteria that have become resistant to antibiotics, have been found in patients who traveled from India to countries including the United States and Britain." http://news.yahoo.com/antibiotic-combination-marketed-abbott-india-list-banned-drugs-061739305--finance.html Steroid cocktails, which are in fixed dose combinations, are mixed with various antifungal and anti-bacterials thus making the drugs extremely dangerous and irrational. Of the 15 per cent, over 90 per cent had adverse effects." http://m.thehindu.com/sci-tech/health/irrational-topical-steroid-combinations-can-cause-drug-resistance/article7918516.ece ITSAN is teaming up with the Indian dermatogists along with others in the medial field to raise much needed awareness of the potential of topical steroid addiction and serious side-effects from unmonitored or unsafe use of this drug. We care and hope for better methods of coping as well for those who are suffering.
