IMAA operates in California to sponsor a school and community center in Ethiopia called the Learning Village that serves a very poor rural community just outside of Addis Ababa. I volunteered at the school teaching music lessons to children and jewelry production classes to a group of women who are trying to learn skills to earn a livelihood for themselves. I have had close contact with the founders of the organization and have been so impressed with its innovative, multi-faceted approach to helping in its community's development. The Learning Village provides education for children, vocational training for adults, employment opportunities, and an on-site clinic provides healthcare. They are currently trying to invest in micro-enterprises to obtain financial self-sufficiency.
