Thank you International Hearing Dogs for your expertise and for your caring touch. I am especially grateful for how you took the time and concern to find the perfect match for me! I love Chris! I highly recommend this great organization!
I have had my hearing dog Sadie for a little over 4 years. I have never felt so secure and able to function in public in a long time before Sadie. She is by my side or under my feet every where I go. I love walking in the neighborhood with her. I wouldn't attempt this without Sadie. she alerts me to people coming up behind me or anywhere close. the little kids on Bicycles are especially dangerous as they come up behind me so fast that I don't know they are coming. Sadie stops, turns around and stands on her hind feet. I know that I need to move off the sidewalk. She is so good at hearing sounds and I feel so safe with her with me. When she isn't working for me she is my constant companion. I feel so safe living a lone with her at my side. She has been the best thing that has happened to me in ages. I was withdrawing from crowds as I couldn't hear what was going on and I stopped going anywhere. Now if someone wants to go out to eat Sadie and I are glad to go. She has changed my life completely. A big heart felt THANK YOU International hearing Dog INC. You have helped change two lives. Sadie's and mine. Pat Paisley Indiana
I have had 3 hearing dogs trained by IHDI and they all became loving associates in my life. Never a problem in public and splendid companions who enabled me to function independently.
That are a great group of people (furry or otherwise).
The dogs and people at International Hearing Dog are fantastic. For decades this non-profit organization has been rescuing dogs , who are intelligent, kind and affectionate, but were about to be euthanized at other shelters. The trainers at IHD are highly skilled in taking the dogs from survival/trauma mode to performing important jobs for people who are deaf and hard of hearing. The staff cares for the animals like they are loved family members, and the dogs respond in kind. I feel privileged to volunteer and donate to be part of this process, and I love hearing about the many successful adoptions.
These kind & intelligent helper dogs have been rescued from shelters, and then well-trained to provide assistance and companionship.
Each one is carefully chosen, and their training tailored, to match the needs & personality of their new human.
The stories of how these smart loving little companions have improved lives are moving and truly inspiring. Such a gift, at no cost to the recipient.
Thank you, IHDI, for making such a difference for so many.
I am an animal lover and a passionate conservationist. I love that the IHDI rescues dogs from high-kill shelters and provides them an opportunity to lead a purposeful life with lots of love by training them to be service dogs for deaf and hard of hearing owners. The team at IHDI is dedicated and driven to improve the lives of dogs and humans. Kudos.
IHDI provided me my service hearing dog Karma in 2013 to assist me with my profound progressive hearing loss. Karma is not only my safety net in daily life but also a companion that brings such great love and joy to so many, including those in my workplace. Without www.hearingdog.org , my life would be very different and less fulfilled. Thank you IHDI!
This is a wonderful organization that changes so many lives. Due to the removal of a tumor, I lost all hearing on my left side. My world and life changed overnight. One doesn't realize how the loss of hearing impacts an individual's life until it happens. I did a lot of research and came upon this organization. After submitting all the proper documentation, I was approved. They delivered Coleman to me and spent several days in town helping me to understand how to work with him. He has changed my life. I no longer miss the doorbell or a knock, or fear walking around as he has truly become my other set of ears. The training that they provide for both the dog and myself is astounding. I daily get comments about how well behaved he is. He is such a joy and helper. They are so deserving of a donation, as the money they receive is so well spent on helping improve the life of others. They are also available for help after receiving the dog. They are my go to resource for help. I was able to get the ADA laws for my state and other states that I have visited, in addition to federal laws. They are so prepared for anything. Thank. you Val and Andrea for all you do on a daily basis!
International Hearing Dog Inc. provides such a wonderful service to the recipients as well as the dogs that are rescued and trained to be ears for those who are hearing impaired. When an opportunity to support this organization as a member of their board came up I was immediately interested in helping the cause. The staff is so passionate about what they do, and their love for the recipients and dogs shows through in everything they do. Such a great organization to partner with!
I originally got involved with IHDI because I have several family members who struggle with hearing loss, including my little brother, and the cause is near and dear to my heart. IHDI is such a wonderful organization. I can really see how meaningful the work is when we meet recipients and hear about how much their dogs have changed their lives. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and they go above and beyond for the dogs and their recipients!
The folks at International Hearing Dog are amazing! My hearing dog, Chloe, has had such a positive in my life! She not only assisted in my safety at home she has been an incredible social connection! People talk to me because I have her and they recognize that I can't hear. Which makes them get my attention so that I can communicate with them! So awesome!
I have a service dog from IHDI and she is worth her weight on gold! This is an amazing organization as they make receiving a hearing dog adorable and so well trained! I had checked other hearing dog places and the price was out of sight! These folks not only do the work before placing but place the dog in your home and help you and the dog adjust! Wonderful organization!

I love International Hearing Dog because it creates a win-win. They adopt dogs from local shelters and train them to be a hearing dog for people with hearing disabilities. They provide service dogs at no cost to the recipient. Not only the helping the hearing impaired/deaf, but they are rescuing shelter as well!
What's more, they do it at a cost of $10K per dog and they train 35-40 dogs per year. They keep their costs very low so that they can place more dogs with more people.
International Hearing Dog, Inc. is a non-profit organization that is easy to connect with. Their communication and vision is clear. This organization does an amazing job showing just how much impact is made by every donation. The Walk, Run, Wag 5k was fun and including a variety of unique and creative Dog-focused vendors. I can't wait to go to next year's!
This group took a new idea almost 40 years ago and have perfected it. Very responsive to email, happy to give a tour, and they rescue dogs. Nothing better!
This is a great organization. My grandmother has been blessed with Maxwell. He lets her know when someone is at the door, when the phone rings or if the smoke alarm goes off (unfortunately we tested this the other day lol). He is the most well trained dog I have come across and a joy to be around.
Tundra has been with me for a little over a year, I could not imagine my life with out him. A few weeks ago the apartment building fire alarms went off and Tundra was right their to push me out to safety. when we go out my little guy is so observant and lets me know if something is not right. I get complements on how well behaved Tundra is and then I get to tell them all about IHDI. I am forever thankful to IHD. This is Tundra getting ready for work! Tundra is so proud to ware his uniform!
Booth was brought to me highly trained by IHDI when he was 2 years old and he is now 4 1/2 yrs. old. He is an amazing service dog--so responsive to me and my needs as well as to everything around us. I take him with me everywhere and no matter where we are, he is always well behaved and professional. I can truly depend on him to do his job without fail. He is a wonderful companion, assistant and friend and I am so thankful to IHDI for bringing him into my life! They are a wonderful organization and their support doesn't stop when the dogs are brought to their recipients. They are there with support and helpful suggestions for many years afterwards!
I've had Mia since October 2009 and we just love her. She goes with me everywhere I go and is so helpful in many ways. Mia and I are so bonded and in tune with each other, I can tell if she hears something that I can't. I can't think IHDI enough for giving Mia to me, she is truly a member of our family. The placement and training processes far surpassed my expectations. Thank you, IHDI!
We got Leila in April of 2013. She has been a wonderful addition to our family. She helps my wife in more ways than just hearing, she has unexpectedly had a wonderful influence in helping my wife with her anxiety and panic attack issues as well. I just can't imagine our family without her now and we have International Hearing Dog to thank.
If you want to get a hearing dog I would suggest you get it from I.H.D.I. Two years ago I received the cutest hearing dog named Douglas. I saw a picture of him on the I.H.D.I. facebook page and fell in love with it. They were so kind to let me get the dog I picked. The trainer Robert Cooley flew him down from Colorado to N.Y. to show me how to train him. I did not have to pay any of those fees. There was only a charge of 100 for the dog training supplies, leash, crate and other things Douglas needed. That was all. Because I never had a dog before I would often email the trainers questions on Douglas. They were all so kind to email me right back and to answer them. They have the nicest and most helpful staff. I was born deaf. So it is helpful that Douglas can notify me when the alarm goes off, doorbell rings and phone rings. I take him to work with me everyday. And of course everywhere I go. I cannot thank the International Hearing Dog Inc. enough for everything they have done for me. It has been the most amazing experience I ever had.
Bella came to live with me in January, 2015 and has been with me 24/7--her kennel is in basement storage. We've attended nearly everything you can imagine and she travels beautifully but is so afraid of fireworks and thunderstorms so we cuddle and "ride it out." She has opened many doors for me to talk about IHDI and loop systems for hearing impaired.
Incredible integrity, training, professionalism, goodness to recipients and donors. No wasted dollars or dogs here! I am in awe of the magnificence of this organization, cloaked in a humble coat. Bless you, International. May you live long!
I received my hearing dog on January 29th. I was to get her on October 21 but I had to have my hip replaced again due to malfunction of my 1st hip. I called to tell International Hearing Dog INC about this and thought I would not be able to get Sadie. They told me they would hold her for 3 moths for me. This gave me much encouragement to get through surgery and 3 weeks in rehabilitation to get ready for Sadie. When she arrived I was so excited and nervous not knowing how to act with a small (lap dog) but it took about 2 min. after meeting her to know she was mine. Her trainer was so good at working with me with her sounds and showing me other things I could do for her. We went to Wal Mart shopping during the 5 days she was here with us, Now Sadie lover to go shopping at Wal Mart. When I say lets go work she gets on the couch ad lets me put her vest and leash on and then dances on her hind legs until I can get the door open.
She has learned 2 new sounds since arriving. She does the microwave and the close dryer all the time. My husband died after I had had her for only 19 days, The house was total chaos for over a week with everyone coming and going. Sadie finally just went to her crate to be let in. I put her in the bedroom, During this time we didn't work on sounds at all but after things got back to more normal I started working with her again and with her trainer giving me tips sometimes 3 or 4 times a day via txt messages or e-mails we got back on track .
This is the best organization that I have ever experienced. They were helpful during the interviewing that took place before I was told I was accepted. At 73 I didn't think I stood a chance of getting a dog. I couldn't get along without her. She is my constant companion and soul mate. She knows when I don't feel good or am feeling down and comes and sits on my lap and licks my hands , I am so grateful to all of your staff and helpers. I tell every one who asks about her where I got her and how she was trained. Keep up the good work. I can't say enough about your organization. Keep up the good work. 'thanks from the bottom of my heart for Sadie. She is so sweet and loveable. Pat
This is a wonderful organization that provides a service that is very hard to find! I have had Coleman for 2 years last week. He is a bright, lovable and extremely hard working service animal. I have been told so many times how well he behaves and how adorable he is. It is obvious that he has been professionally trained. He has been on airplanes with me, in crowded airports, on a college campus, visiting with me to see others, in stores, in the ER room, and everywhere else that I have been in the last 2 years. He has always acted professionally and it is evident that he loves me and is watching out for me. I feel so much safer at home. If the doorbell rings or someone is walking around outside, he is relentless unless I get up and look, say it's ok and thanks. If someone is behind me and he feels that I don't know or am unsafe, his relentless barking occurs. I am amazed at how loud and long he will bark to let me know that something needs my attention. He has brought so much joy to my life. Five years ago, my life changed forever. Due to a tumor, I lost total hearing on my left side. I was struggling to regroup my life as it affected me in so many ways. He has been such a blessing and has added so much to my life. If you are looking for a great organization to donate to, hands down, this would be one of my top ones. They provide such a needed service which is almost impossible to find. Thanks to IHD, Inc for giving me Coleman. The most adorable 14 pound Bischon Frishe. He has also blessed so many others. I notice all the time how he brings smiles to those around him.
International Hearing Dog is the most awesome non-profit organization I have ever seen!
I have had Domino, the best of the best hearing dogs, since June of 2008.
He tells me everything I need to know. He even goes and gets my wife if I don't respond to him.
IHD did a spectacular job in selecting and training him, as they have done for many others. They are an invaluable organization for hearing impaired people; placing well trained, selected from shelters, dogs. The staff at International Hearing Dog is such a caring group, in additional to their professional expertise, who remembers Domino from seven years ago.
Domino is such a blessing and also such a joy to me and also to my wife.
I have had my hearing dog Gracie since May 2011 and don't know how I got along without her. Besides the skills like alerting me to the door, phone, and smoke detector she learned when trained by International Hearing Dog, Inc., Gracie is an invaluable emotional support. Dealing with hearing loss is very tiring and stressful. Having a service dog like Gracie be able to be with me in a variety of situations from grocery shopping to dining out goes a long way to reducing that stress. Three cheers for International Hearing Dog, Inc.!! They not only choose and train wonderful dogs, they continue to support their "teams". We love you guys :)
I received my new hearing partner on July 14th and it has been an amazing experience. The staff has been incredibly supportive, I've never had a terrier and had a lot to learn about the breed. Whenever I had a question, I would text his trainer and she would respond within a couple of minutes!
Gonzo is an awesome little guy, not only does he alert me to the sounds he was trained for but he's added the microwave and dryer beeps to his repertoire.
Sometimes I have to leave him home and when he sees me get his small water dish ready, he goes in his crate all by himself. Being a senior, I'm not as agile as I use to be and when I get his leash and vest he comes next to me and holds still so I can dress him in his professional attire, he does these things without my telling him, such a little gentleman!
When I walk I don't hear cars and now I feel safer with Gonzo by my side. My friends and I like to go to restaurants for coffee and they are amazed at how well behaved he is. He also comes to classes with me and I guess he finds it boring because he stretches out next to my feet and goes to sleep
In 5 days, my new hearing dog will arive. I can't even express what this means to me. I am so very grateful to this organization for training him and bringing him to me. The application process was easy and quick. How do you say thank you for giving me this precious gift that will make my life so much easier. There are no words.
I like how this organization uses shelter dogs instead of breeding programs. Thank you for all of your hard work!
