Causes: Community Service Clubs
Mission: The club was organized by an association for service clubs by the international association of lions clubs (lions clubs international). The purpose of the lions clubs international are to organize, charter and supervise service clubs to be known as lions clubs; to coordinate the activities and standardize the administration of lions clubs; to create and foster a spirit of understanding among the peoples of the world; to promote the principles of good government and citizenship; to take an active interest in the civic, cultural, social and moral welfare of the community; to unite its members in the bonds of friendship, good fellowship and mutual understanding; to provide a forum for the open discussion of all matters of public interest; to encourage service minded people to serve their community without personal financial reward; and to encourage efficiency and promote high ethical standards in commerce, industry, professions, public works and private endeavors. Programs: Old timer's day - a gathering of current and former residents of the town of pierson, florida to socialize, renew friendships and share the agricultural history of pierson with a younger generation. It is held at the fair grounds in pierson and includes a lunch of fried catfish, ham, swamp cabbage, and various pot luck side dishes and desserts. The lions club members prepare and serve the food and conduct the various activities. Families travel to pierson from local cities within the state and from other states to attend.
christmas party for residents of the duvall home - the duvall home is a not for profit organization that provides nursing and resident care, education, vocational & behavioral therapies and more to developmetally challenged individuals. It is located in glenwood, florida. The lions club provides a luncheon for the residents and their families and the staff. Gifts are provided for the approximately 140 residents. Lions club members provide and prepare the food for the luncheon. In addition, members purchase and wrap gifts that santa distributes to the residents.
community grants & emergency care funds - requests for emergency grants to provide medical, transportation (pierson is a rural area), food, utilties, bereavement and other needs to residents of the town of pierson and surrounding communities are reviewed and funded as determined by committee members.
contributions to other tax exempt organizations - contributions are made annually to charitable organizations that support the prevention of blindness, the research of the causes of blindness, the correction of eye problems, such as surgery and providing assistance with prescriptions and assistance to individuals with sight problems to live independent lives. Contributions are given to the florida lions foundation for the blind, inc. , the conklin center for the blind in daytona beach, florida and other charitable organizations. The lions clubs have always been associated with the prevention and correction of eyesight problems.
